The witcher pushed the girl away as he threw a bomb at the hym. The girl had no idea what kind of bomb it was, but it was beautiful, as if he threw a bottle full of little starts at the hym.
He hit the hym and slid behind him. The hym was slow, but if he managed to hit the witcher he'd sense that his hits were strong, very strong. He might lack the speed, but he had very strong attacks.
- No! - the girl screamed - Don't kill him, witcher! Please!
This monster was the only thing that protected the girl. The only reason why she was alive and without him... she had no idea how she'd survive. Five years they were together, and during these years he made sure to make the girl dependent on his presence.
And that's when the hym started whispering to her. He wanted her to do something, to distract the witcher, so he can kill him, but she didn't move. Instead she started panicking, her heart raced in her chest as she could barely catch her breath. Fear filled her mind.
When the witcher slid behind the hym, the monster disappeared in cloud of black smoke, this was his only way of dogging. He reappeared right behind the witcher and aimed with his big claws at the his head.

As he stood, he started to cast the Axii sign on Eve to calm her, him getting it off just as he saw the Hym vanish into the cloud of smoke. A curse left the Witcher's lips as he realized the only part of the building he couldn't see was right behind him. Verin moved his head down quickly, assuming its claws were coming right there as he spun his blade of shimmering sliver to his side and back, both dodging with a sidestep and slashing at the Hym, his feet moving with practiced steps in what seemed to be more of a dance than any sort of practical combat maneuver to the untrained eye, avoiding each and every piece of debris on the ground. Then Verin hands moved once again in a sign, a purple circle of slowing magic surrounding the shadow bound beast as he took steps back to the center of the room, him waiting for just a moment before he approached once again, his blade flashing once more with a speed that seemed incredible as it cut clean through a leather bound book and did not stop at all as it slashed into the Hym once more, what seemed to be just the tip of the oil dripping blade, but it was truthfully 3 inches of the blade gashing through the monster. Then he let the momentum of the blade shift as he turned the slash back to hit the Hym again, his hand set on his wrist casting an Igni sign on a table near to the Hym and the Witcher, setting the old dry wood ablaze enough for it to light the room a bright orange. This was going well so far, but things could always go wrong.
A warm calming wave washed through her body. She felt better, calmer. The voice continued speaking in her head, but she was able to ignore it.
Eve have never seen before the hym disappearing like that. He killed the pellar with one hit, he didn't need to dodge.
The witcher ignored her request and continued with his intention of killing the hym. She was angry at him. He was doing this for the money, but she had no idea what he was doing to her.
Under the hym a purple signs appeared, making the hym's movements even slower. The witcher went to the center of the room, while the hym desperately tried to get close to him. The witcher attacked and а guttural monstrous sound filled the room, but the witcher didn't stop. He pierced him with his blade again and the creature cried once again, extinguishing one of the candles.
The witcher lit the table with his Igni sign and made the room even brighter.
The monster was trapped in the witcher's magic, as he received more and more attacks. Just as the sign disappeared under the hym he vanished in a cloud of smoke.
He was somewhere in or outside the house, his presence could be felt by the girl and the witcher's medallion was trembling.
Suddenly a lighting lighten up the area showing the hym's silhouette, walking slowly outside of the house in the rain.
The girl ran towards the door and stood there with no intention to move.
- Leave him! - she shouted at the witcher.

Verin took a deep breath and went to the girl. "No, that beast is draining you, feeding off you like a leech. I don't take kindly to things that prey on children," he said, moving he out of the way once more and booting the door open. He opened the cat potion and drank it down as he kept trotted down the stairs. His body burnt all over, pain shooting through him, each movement sending a sharp stabbing through his body. His eyes turned bright as they widened, taking in the little bit of light outside. is hand went down and grabbed another moondust bomb, along with a samnum flash bomb, him gripping them both and throwing them hard across the clearing. The first one to hit was the moondust bomb once again, followed by the flash bomb, it turning into a ball of light for a split second. His trudded through the muck thicker mud and breathed, him getting ready to cast the Yrden sign once more, but in his fervor, the mud beneath his boot gave way and he slipped and fell quite hilariously, but he managed to catch himself with the hand he had used to to try and cast the sign, him never making full contact into the mud, him just scrambling towards the monster
- He is not a monster, he is a god! - the girl shouted at him, as he opened the cat potion. The poor witcher had no idea what his enemy was. He was doing a mistake, big mistake that might cost his life. Or ruin someone else's life. That's what the girl was thinking.
The rain fell heavily from the clouds and the lightnings lit up the sky for a second. A second that the white light blinded the witcher, because of the cat potion. A second that gave the hym an advatage. A second that could take away the witcher's life. Sometimes a second was nothing. But now, a second was everything.
The witcher slipped. A lightning illuminated the sky. The hym attacked. He was angry, he had no mercy. His intention was to kill and keep living in the girl's body. He had to survive and he was ready to do everything to survive. He was a monster, he had no morals, if the girl wasn't his host he'd paint the ground red with her blood. He didn't care she was a child, he didn't care that this was the witcher's way of survival in this world. He didn't care about the poor pellar that had no idea what was really wrong with the girl and if he knew he'd just sent her back home. He didn't care that she lost her mother and missed a mother's touch. Instead he used this against her, feeding from her growing sadness and guilt. He was a monster.
His heavy claw landed on the witcher, sending him flying towards the shack with enormous force. The witcher hit hard the wall of the shack with his wounded back, leaving a bloody stain. Parrying his hits wasn't going to help, it was impossible to withstand the force of this old hym. The only way was do dodge and hit. To be faster that the hym, and the only advantage the witcher had was that the hym was slow. But his attacks were powerful, very powerful.

Verin was sent flying through the air. As he hit the building, he felt something crunch and snap, he wasn't sure whether it was the wall or his bones. Her coughed as he fell from the wall, him spattering blood up and he groaned, him opening the White Raffard's decoction and poured it into his mouth, him staggering up as he felt bones snap back into place and his his wound on his back heal. Along with the healing, he felt a surge of energy burst through him and he grabbed his sword once more. "COME ON THEN, let us end this dance," he growled. He didn't have much energy left in his tank and he needed to finish this fast, him sprinting back at the creature. As he approached, his feet compensated for the mud, him dancing towards the creatures, a splash fo mud and a spin of silver. In the moment he moved, getting ready to strike, he casted the signs with trained hands of both Yrden and Quen, slowing the beast and protecting himself. Verin's let out a roar of a mix of pain and rage and put all of his strength into a hard chopping slash towards the Hym's throat, now exposed because of the Yrden sign. He needed this to work, or he wasn't sure if he could even survive this fight, his eyes were throbbing from the cat potion, making it seem like midday, his body burning with fatigue and pain. One strike was all he had, and that's what he tried, one bone crunching strike.
The hym was slowed, but he prepared his attack as soon as he saw the witcher coming at him. His hands were longer that the witcher's, so when the man was close the hym swing at him and land his hit. But it seemed that it didn't do anything. His hand was sent back by the Quen sign, leaving the creature open.
A powerful and loud monster roar could be heard all over the place. The birds that hid themselves in the trees flew from their safe place, scared from the noise. The sky was filled with lightnings and black birds silhouettes, as the rain continued to pour from the angry clouds.
The hym disappeared in a cloud of smoke, never to appear again. With his last hit the witcher ended this dance of dominance and survival. He won.
The girl stood by the door of the shack with her eyes filled with tears. She felt empty. Like part of her soul was torn apart and thrown into the dark abyss. She felt sad, angry, she realized this was the first time she felt so bad. She watched the witcher with hatred in her burning amber eyes. Evellien ran inside the house, went to one room, closed the door and put a chair with his back against the door, under the handle, so the witcher could not enter.
Eve sat on the ground near the door with her back against the wall and just cried silently.
The night was about to come. She sensed that this night would be a long one.

Verin, as soon as the hny was vanquished, he let out a sigh and put his blade away. Then hs took a deep breath and fell back into the mud, his body giving out on him. The Witcher just laid there in crippling pain, his eyes shut as he laid there. "Yeah verin, be smart, throw a samnum bomb, blind yourself like a genius," he grumbled as he laid there, not sure he could move with how much his body was screaming in crippling agony. So instead, he just looked up and watched the storm, the thunder, the lightning, the clouds, it was beautiful. He knew the girl likely hated him now, but he did what he needed to to help her. Maybe in time she would understand, but as of now, he knew she wouldn't. What concerned him right now though was his amulet wouldn't stop shaking
The girl stood there, trying to calm her anger, but at this moment this wasn't possible. She took a deep breath, exhaled and took another one.
It was quiet. For the first time in a long time it was quiet. She could hear the rain drumming on the building. It was kinda soothing. She was left alone with her own thoughts.
- Why are you crying? - a voice spoke to her, but she didn't see anyone in the room - don't be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you.
- W... where are you? Who are you? - she asked.
A noise like someone was knocking from under the floor came.
"Basement?!" she thought.
- Down here. I'm a friend. Are you alone?
The girl decided to lie.
- Yes.
- Are you injured? - the voice asked.
- N... no, I'm not.
- Then you're lying! I smell blood! DON'T LIE TO ME, BRAT!!!
That's when she realized the witcher was actually really injured. The girl remained silent after the creature screamed at her.
- I'm sorry, I'm sorry - the voice continued - I'm just a little upset. I'm really hungry, I've been locked here for a long time. Can you help me?
- How? - she asked?
- Unlock the trapdoor to the basement.
- But the witcher put the bookcase on top of it.
- Witcher?! - the voice sounded shocked - oooh... he is the injured one. He must be badly injured. Don't worry, I'll help him.
She didn't answer.
- Don't you want to know what's inside this basement, child? You'll be surprised...
Now he got her attention. The girl was too curious. Curious to the point where she'd put herself to danger.
- What?! - she stood up - tell me!
- Come to me and find out. Come on.... I don't bite...
She quickly removed the chair and head to the bookcase, determined to move it, but then.. she saw him. Lying there on the ground, under the rain, all alone. She felt bad for him, but she was still angry at him.
Eve was confused. She wanted to leave him there in the cold, but she also wanted to help him and she had no idea why she had these mixed feelings.
"Aaaaagh, why am I like this?!" - the girl thought and ran outside to him.
- Hey, hey, witcher! Can you walk?
Eve took him by the hand.
- Come on, get inside. It's freezing out here.

Verin too a deep slow breathe and looked at her as he sat up a little. "I heard that thing in the basement, whatever it tells you, promise me you will not open it," he whispered to her, almost pleadingly. He was in severe stinging pain, but he had been through it before. Verin was in rough shape, but he none the less stood up, him groaning as he stood up, mud squelching beneath the Witcher's boots. "I know what you have been through child... Having a parent who blames you and hates you for something you could never control," he said softly, him looking at her as he limped. Then he smiled before it faded. "That gym, that beast fed off the guilt forced on you...It may have protected you, but it also because harmed you, feeding off you like a leech," he muttered as he rubbed the gash on his side. Verin then pushed the door open and laid into the bookshelf. "And you down here, shut yer mouth before I drops a grape bomb down there," he muttered as he groaned. "I'll deal with you later, you a vampire?" He asked the book shelf as he laid on it. Then his eyes shut as he slowly opened his bag and dumped it onto the floor, bottles and potions on the ground along with wrapped materials and mud. Then he reached down to the wrapped piece of bread and opened it and began to eat it hungrily, as he also popped open a bottle of Temerian brandy and sipped it gently and sighed
- I won't open it, I promise. - she said to the man when he asked her not to open the basement.
She watched him as we walked to the house. She could see he was in a lot of pain. Fighting these beast wasn't easy and he was risking his life every time. But even after everything he managed to stand up and get inside the house, even with a lot of effort. No ordinary man could live through all of this and manage to stand up and walk again.
He talked to the girl and she listened, but remained silent for now.
When he got inside the house he spoke to the thing in the basement.
"Vampire?!" the girl thought. She had no idea that vampires existed outside of the fairy tales.
The man opened his bag and dumped on the floor all kinds of interesting things. "Woah..." came to Evellien's mind as she watched the items.
The girl sat on the bookcase too and stared at the ground.
- You might know what I have been through - she broke the silence - but that won't change anything. That... creature was the only thing that protected me. And you did it for the money. I know, everyone knows that you help people because of the money. Now we're going to return to the village, you're going to take the money and you'll be on your way. But I'll still be unwanted. And I'm not going to stay in the village, witcher. My father told me a witcher will come to take me.
She looked him with a dead serious expression.
- But I'm not gonna wait for him. I'll leave. Two years from now... I'm going to return. My brothers... half brothers will be grown up, they will be able to take care of themselves. And I will kill him.
She looked at the ground again.
- I'll kill him.

She looked at the ground again.
- I'll kill him.
"Why not wait, I mean you are staring at him," he said rather flatly, though his face had a nice humorous smile on it. Then he breathed out and chuckled. "And to be honest, your father and your village can shove the money where the sun never reached, I did this for you," he said, looking at her and smiling. "And killing the man who made your life awful, it may feel good, but it's not worth it... Pain never goes away," he said before sighing a little, him staring at her as of he was lost in thought. "Half brothers?" He finally asked, him looking at her. "Who was her mum if it wasn't theirs," he asked, referring to her brothers as he unclipped his blade and set the steel and silver sword and the ground beside him so he could completely lay back. Then he breathed out and then looked at her with a soft smile. "I was born up in a small horse dung covered village near Novigrad. Mother died during childbirth and my father immediately hated me as soon as she passed. Unlike you, I was the only child from him, and he turned to drink to solve his pain...Drink and violence. Alot of these scars, that I wear I had long before I slayed monsters Evellienn," he chuckled softly. Among the contents of the bag was an old worn letter, a wedding ring, and a journal that obviously, based on how it looked, belonged to a woman.
- You?! - the girl said - but you're not blonde man with blue eyes and a shining armor!
The girl obviously expected prince charming on a white horse.
- And you even came without a horse!
- Oh how adorable and at the same time tragic! - spoke the monster from the basement - You better...
- Shut up, idiot! - shouted the girl.
- Oh, you are brave having a witcher by your side, brat.
The girl ignored it, thinking about what the witcher said.
"His scars..." - she thought - "his father hurt him..."
Unlike him, the girl was never touched by her father.
- Mhm... - she continued - they're my half brothers. Veleena told me story about my father and my mother. He immediately fell in love with her and she accepted his children like they were hers.
The black lock of hair that covered her ear fell aside and revealed her pointy ear.
- At first the village didn't want her. But he convinced them. Veleena said she could summon rain for the crops, she could heal the wounded or the sick... the villagers stared to really like her.
Evellien noticed the worn letter, the wedding ring, and the journal. She was scared to ask, but did it anyway.
- Are you married, witcher?
The girl obviously expected prince charming on a white horse.
- And you even came without a horse!

Verin chuckled softly and looked at her. "Horse died on the way here, group of nekkers swiped his legs out from under him while I was talking to some soldiers," then he saw the ear and didn't even really comment on the fact she was half elven "She sounded like a wonderful woman, I am sad she passed," he said, watching her. At her question, he turned and looked to the pile of stuff. "Was, she passed a long while ago," he said, watching the ring and book before he sighed once more. Then he went to grab the ring and spun it in his fingers. "Part of the living long bit of being a witcher, people you love die around you and you have no control," he muttered as he looked at the ring. "I owe her my life...like you with that Hym, she was the only reason I am still alive," he chuckled softly. "That's her journal and her goodbye letter to me when she got ill and passed...I was on a contract when she did get Ill. When I got home and I found out, she was Ill and it was fatal, I hurt, my heart ached, In all that strength and speed and knowledge that the Cat school gave me...Well, nothing can stop time...I owe her everything and I will never ever be able to repay her," he muttered before putting it back in the bag, tears obviously running down his cheeks as he spoke even tHough his face was neutral. Then after a moment, he snorted in thought. "Ya know, also about the whole shining armor bit, Witchers come in many different shapes and sizes, There might be a witcher like that, but Alas, I saved your dad's life form those drowners years ago, not he,"
- You should've let him die.
There was a deep concern written on her face. And a little sadness. She felt bad about him.
"He's been through so much" - she thought while watching him with her concerned eyes. Little by little her anger disappeared every time he spoke. She found his voice soothing.
Eve lied on one side with her hand under her head and watched him.
The storm continued, but they were safe here. It seemed that this wasn't his first time to stay in a god forgotten place like this. She saw his tears, but his face remained natural. Her heart ached. The girl hugged him behind his back, she didn't expect do to so, but still... she did it. She wrapped her tiny hands around his neck in a hug.
She wanted, she needed to know everything about that man for some reason, but decided not to ask. This man had more than just physical scars.
She forgot about the creature in the basement. After all he was here. He was still here... Eve and all the people knew witchers needed boys. And she wasn't a boy. She wanted to go with him and forget everything about the village and her father. But she was a girl.
- I don't want that witcher - she said to him - I don't want him.
[Verin watched her for a moment at her statement about her father. Then he smiled at her and laughed softly. "Naaah I shouldn't have let him die, no matter how much bad you have been through, you have ended up better for it," he said softly as he looked at her and then looked at his wounds and took a slow breath. Then he chuckled and then watched the rain, him sighing as he sat there. Then he was hugged, his eyes widening a little bit before he chuckled and patted her hand gently, almost with utmost care. Then he heard what she said as she hugged him. He gave a soft smile in return. "Well Witchers prefer boys, but that doesn't mean that girls won't work either, and besides, fate drew you a bad hand here, I am making it give you new cards," he said, shutting his eyes gently as he took a breath, then as much as he didn't want to, he slowly removed her arms from around his neck and then looked at her, a thunder crack snapping through the forest a moment before lighting illuminated the building. He looked at her for a moment. "Go use the bed, rest. We will be on our way in the morning," he said softly. "I might take you to the griffon school, considering on how bad terms I am on with my own and try and train you there," he said with a chuckle. Then he thought for a moment. "Or Kaer Morhen, though I am sure I will be about as welcome there as a boot filled with urine,". It was likely that going there would make things bad for him, however, he did not want her to go to the cat school and lose this gentle and caring personality she had.
The man was speaking things the girl never ever imagined she'd hear. The whole time he was smiling softly at her, and she asked herself how? How was he able to smile after all the things he's been through?
"People are wrong to tell that witchers are heartless..." - she thought.
With the hand that killed monsters he patted hers gently. That was a proof that they were not only a killing machines.
The witcher was right, she had to rest, she felt tired and also she had a fever from the cold, but she wanted to know so much more. She wanted to know about the schools and why he was on bad terms with his own. She wanted to know what kind of potions he carried, why his medallion was trembling the whole time, his stories abut adventures and monsters, the signs he used, why his eyes were like this, how someone can become a witcher, why there weren't any female witchers... but she had to listen to him. At least at this moment.
The girl stood up and went to bed. She lied there and looked at the wither.
- Can we return to my village to take something I want? - Eve wanted to know. But the thing she wanted to know even more was...
- And what's you name, witcher?
"People are wrong to tell that witchers are heartless..." - she thought.
With the hand that killed monsters he patted hers gently. That was a proof that they were not only a killing machines.
The witcher was right, she had to rest, she felt tired and also she had a fever from the cold, but she wanted to know so much more. She wanted to know about the schools and why he was on bad terms with his own. Verin looked at her and nodded. "yes, we can return," he said, his eyes shutting as he grabbed the journal and gently pulled it to his chest, hugging it to him, the only way he could get to sleep without a nightmare of any sort. Eve would likely see him hugging it as if it was a stuffed animal as his eyes shut and he sighed, lazying back onto the bookcase. at her second question, his amber eyes opened and he looked at the Ceiling. "Verin," he said and then his eyes shut once more as he relaxed on the bookcase as best he could. It was very uncomfortable, but it was the best place he could lay for his meditation session. after a moment, he subconsciously started to hum as he drifted into the hybrid of meditation and sleep. Time seemed to fly once his eyes shut and the next thing he knew, it was a couple of hours later, he was awoken by the bookcase thumping up and down a little and he groaned. His hands instantly went to his sides, the claw marks gone, though his body still burnt. He went to grab his swords, him scowling.
She saw him hugging the journal and realized how much he missed his wife.
- Verin - he said.
She closed her eyes and whispered to herself
- Verin...
She dreamed of unicorns. Buildings, wide, open, like gazebos, built of marble, alabaster and malachite and adorned with stucco, terracotta and mosaics. They seemed so airy and delicate. A palace, bridges and terraces, peristyles, cloisters and balconies, sculptures and monuments. The sky had soft pink hue, she saw a river running through the city, streams, trees, vast mountains surrounding this magical place. People... no, elves on the streets, talking in a language she could barely understand. It was... her mother's language.
Then she heard something.
- Va’es.. .......h aep ei...n... ....se eigh fa...ar.
Evellien could not understand or hear everything. The elves on the street seemed they couldn't see her. She could hear gentle songs and she saw some gallery with amazing paintings.
But someone was standing on her way, staring right into her eyes. It was an old man, an old elf. Eve didn't know him. He had a long dark blue robe with golden stripes and long staff with crystal on top of it that shone with dim and pale blue light.
The man was able to see her. He was talking something to her, but she couldn't hear him.
- What?!
- E.....en a.. Ae...
- I can't hear you!
She walked towards him, but she couldn't reach him. So she started running, but still she wasn't able to get close.
The man lifted his staff and hit the ground beneath him. The elves disappeared, the ground disappeared, the palace, the music...
- Ire lokke, ire tedd. - the man said - Va faill.
- Ire lokke, ire tedd. - she repeated silently in her sleep.
And then... darkness. She was still sleeping, unable to hear what was happening in the room. And for the first time in a long time... she had no nightmares.

Verin groaned as he stood and grabbed a couple of grapeshot bombs and a cat potion. Once again he could fight. HE drank down the cat, his eyes widening to take in more light in the pitch darkness. Then he put the journal and the letter back itno his bag and went to lift the bookcase. Once he did, he lifted the chained trapdoor just enough to look into the basement, his eyes adjusting in moments. "What exactly are you," he asked with a sniff, him staring. "Takes quite alot of strength to lift a book case with a witcher of the bloody ground," he grumbled, him looking until he saw the face or claws of whatever it was, him ready to move out of the way in case he was slashed at. Whatever the monster was in there, the chain had to be strong as not to have broken in whoever long it was down there, and the plank it was chained to was still strong, the only way the monser was getting out was if verin decided to let it out. The bombs were on his belt, ready to be lit and tossed down itno the basement, along with a dragons dream and a dancing star was likely to light the basement and the monster down there on fire, and it would be a painful death for the beast, as of this moment, he was in a good mood so he was open to bargain, unless it was one of the more notoriously aggressive vampires such as a Katakan or Ekimarra, then he couldn't allow it to live, if it was a were, maybe he could cure it. Alpors and Bruxae have been known to be not entirely murderous, but tend to be, so unless it was something he could help, he was ready to drop the quarter of explosives into the hole and leave it at that.
