Nori stopped a moment at the corner in front of school, giving a slightly irritated groan before reluctantly resuming his walk toward the front doors.
His foster mom would kill him if he skipped school two days in a row.

Matrihan strode with false confidence to the front doors of the school, adjusting his dark gloves nervously. Apparently humans required their youth to visit this old building daily and listen to long lectures regarding facts that Mat deemed useless.
He only hoped no one would call him out on his strange form of dress-- covering his eyes, hands, and ears almost obsessively.

Blair was just exiting the parking lot, a nearly-finished cigarette hanging from her lips. As she approached the doors, she couldn't help but glare up at the building, feeling for sure that it wasn't going to be a very interesting day. Before she entered the doors, she took a final drag, and flicked the cigarette butt to the side.
Nori frowned slightly when a girl in front of him tossed a cigarette butt onto the groan, glaring at the bit of litter a moment before stopping down and picking it up to find a proper spot to throw it away.
Mat wrinkled his nose at the thick scent of tobacco that had swelled in the air. He approached the smaller, but older girl cautiously and tapped her on the shoulder shyly.
"Hey, isn't smoking supposed to be bad for you?" He queried, his voice full of a strangely solemn naivety.

Nori's brow furrowed when he saw another guy walk up to the girl. He walked past the two without comment, but continued listening in on the two.
Thankfully, he had a far wider hearing distance than the average high school student, one of the few perks to his "condition".

Blair, with her hands stuffed into her jacket pockets, turned on her heel to face the boy who addressed her. She looked up at him, and quirked a brow at the question.
"I guess so, yeah." She answered flippantly. She tilted her head to one side, her hair falling over her shoulder as she did so. Her gaze was full of curiosity as she analyzed the boy.

Mat rocked back and forth on his feet, feeling uncomfortable under the scrutiny. He fiddled with the zipper of his jacket and averted his eyes. "So, why do it?" He asked, honest and oblivious.
Out of the corner of his eye he noticed a tall male striding past them with an oddly intent look on his face. Alarms went of in Mat's head and he shuffled to the side several feet, weakly attempting to move the conversation further from prying eyes, no matter how innocent it was.

Nori stopped by the doors, pausing to glance around as he continued listening.
...Something about the big guy in particular set off alarm bells for him. He didn't... smell right. Not to say he had bad hygiene, but his scent was... off.
It definitely warranted further observation.

Blair blinked once, twice. She wasn't quite sure how to answer that. She knitted her brows together, and contemplated this for a moment. She opened her mouth, as though she were ready to say something, but quickly shut it. Then she collected her thoughts, and tried again.
"Well, I... I guess I wanted to piss some people off. And once I started, I couldn't stop." She told him truthfully, before pursing her lips together. Almost subconsciously, her eyes drifted towards the direction she discarded her cigarette. Though, she was surprised to find that it wasn't there at all. She gave the ground a quizzical look, before turning back to the boy.
As she observed him, she noticed how timid he appeared to be, and how desperately he wanted to avoid attention. She couldn't help but smile at this.

"Well, I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I know there are people who could help with that." Mat softly urged, "I could try helping you... if you'd like."
He followed her gaze to where the cigarette butt had once been and cocked his head upon noticing its absence. His eyes flickered to the quiet male he had been wary of and the dots connected. He smiled a bit, acknowledging the decent act and almost immediately willing to give the guy a chance.

When the guy looked toward him, Nori realized he was still holding the butt, and looked away from them to look for a place to toss it.
Blair raised her eyebrows, a grin splitting across her face. "Woah, dude. You make it sound like I'm doing hardcore drugs." She joked, pausing to release a small, airy laugh. "You're very sweet, but no thanks. I'm...still trying to piss people off."
She left it off at that, a smile still playing on her lips. She tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, feeling content now that she had gotten a read on the stranger.

He found a trash can with an ash tray on top and dumped the butt there, unceremoniously walking inside and away from the two now that one of them was paying attention to him.
"Heh, yeah, maybe I'm being a bit overzealous," he rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "Well, have fun raging against the machine!" Internally, Mat prayed he had used the right phrase.
With that, he strode through the front doors of the school after waving a quick "see you later" and looked for the dark-haired man of assumedly quiet virtue.

Mat was quickly able to spot the boy heading down a hall and toward one of the classrooms. Coincidentally, it happened to be the same classroom Mat and Blair were both going to end up.
She laughed once more at his odd choice of words. As he departed, she used two fingers to throw a mock salute in his direction. She watched him go with a little half-smile on her lips.
Of course, after that she couldn't help but notice a different boy tossing something into a trashcan. She gave him a bemused look. She couldn't be sure that this was the anonymous person who picked up her cigarette butt, so she decided she wouldn't confront him. Not yet, anyway.
So, she turned around once more and strode into the building, one hand fiddling with the lighter in her pocket, while the other was pushing her hair back.

By the time either of them arrived in the classroom, the odd boy was already seated as far from the front as humanly possible. He was slouched in his chair with a book in his face, appearing to be fully ignoring the world around him.
The classroom was slowly filling as more students were filtering in, and class was due to begin in just a few minutes.

Mat sat in one of the middle rows, hunched over so as not to block anyone else's view. He tapped at the desk spastically and threw his gaze about the room, taking note of his classmates and scrutinizing those he presumed could be problematic.
Most of the other students were just waiting for class to start, at various levels of impatience. A few were chatting amongst each other as well. After a minute or two, Mat heard a clear "THUNK" from further back in the classroom.
