"I wish I could really meet you, you seem nice, quiet, and normal.
Unlike the idiots that put you in here."
Unlike the idiots that put you in here."
Alex couldn't be sure, but from the way the mermaid was acting, he seemed to want to really meet him as well.
He gave a wide yawn then, and suddenly covered his mouth as his cheeks reddened slightly.

"You tired to huh?"
He laughed " guess I got here a little later than usual."

After a moment, the mermaid pointed at Alex, then up at the surface of his tank, looking at him questioningly.
Alex's face fell for a second as he hung his head, at the top of the tank was a small viewing area that was secluded just incase Alt ever decided to try an out of water performance.
But Alex was hesitant.
But Alex was hesitant.
Atl cocked his head slightly. ...He made his friend upset? Why?
For a moment it appeared to alt as if Alex was pondering something. After awhile it appears as if he'd made up his mind and noded, with a smile he pointed to himself and then to the top of the tank in the direction of the above water public viewing area.
Eyes brightening, Atl quickly swam up to the surface.
Making sure the coast is clear, Alex exited the room and snuck back out into the the main floor of the aquarium. Making his way quickly down the hall he found himself with a stroke of luck as the viewing area was empty, and ran to the edge to meet his new friend there.
Atl was there waiting, but looked a bit nervous being out in the open like this, and was glancing around for any handlers that might show up. They really didn't like him talking to guests, especially with the protestors around...
"Hi, can you understand me?"
He spoke softly to the skittish merboy.
He spoke softly to the skittish merboy.
He gave a little nod and smiled. The handlers made sure to teach him to understand English when he was little. It made it easier for them to work.
"Do you know how to speak?"
He hesitated, then lowered his gaze. "...Not good..." He responded quietly. He seemed to have trouble sounding out each syllable.
"Then your lucky I'm here."
Alex stated with a smirk as he pulled out an old book from the ragged brown bag at his side.
"Wanna know more?"

He cocked his head. "More?" He leaned closer, wanting to see what Alex was doing.
"Do you want to learn how to read? And speak better English?"
"Read?" He repeated, brow furrowed. What was that?
"Ok this might be a little hard, let's begin."
Alex would then begin to spend the next two hours explaining the concept of reading and how to pronounce certain letters in different forms.
He also had to go over the alphabet a few times just for good measure.

Atl had trouble with learning, but they were slowly making progress.
Unfortunately, a handler showed up and immediately ended the impromptu tutoring session, demanded that Alex stop distracting the exhibit and leave.
