Pelldea Kiilanerod (played by Lyse) Topic Starter

A crawl-space, then, came to Pelldea's mind when the man gave his lie, even though she didn't for a second believe it. But she bit back the words, determined not to be drawn into more verbal dancing-about for which neither of them would be honest.

She saw him take the bauble in his hands and tensed, a half-inch of metal sliding from her sheath at the movement, but she didn't draw in earnest until after he'd flung it down. Though her own magical skills were poor, Pelldea was a high elf; she knew well that all sorts of objects could be enchanted with all sorts of spells, and she didn't have the skill or magical sensitivity to know what kind of spell this was. It could summon an elemental attack, or a monster-

Or silence. A grim smile quirked her own mouth, even as he raised her hand, for the man had done her a favor as well by keeping well-meaning neighbors or guards from responding to any noise they might raise. She started to reach for the shield strapped across her back as well, but then the magic washed over her, stopping her at least temporarily in place. Muscles straining, she sought to throw off the paralytic effect by force of will, buying time with a brusque response to his question. "I came to find you," she told him, the faint, grim smile still on her face.

If she got loose, she would charge him with her shield, not her sword, foremost; many magic-users proved fragile in the face of a blunt assault, and she didn't want another of her foes to die with her questions still unanswered.

((IDK what you'll consider a saving throw for this, so I did the "would" bit just so you'll have a little more to respond to if she succeeds.))

rolled 1d20 and got 5
