Hey I was wondering what the easiest way to get some rp partners is? I've tried replying to forums, making forums, and messaging people and it seems more then not I get ignored .. does anyone have any advice?
The key, I've found, is how much enthusiasm your post shows, and how it shines through.
This goes double when you're putting yourself out there on the 'Looking for RP' forums. Finding a good RP partner is a largely a matter of personality; you want to find someone whose personality you mesh with, who likes the same kind of scenes that you do, that sort of thing. But when you're just posting a topic or replying to a Looking For post, all they have to go on is what's in your profile and what's in your reply, so you've got to make sure to hook 'em with that.
What I've found helps, when replying to others posts, is to elaborate a little on their scenario, give them some more details to work with to try and catch their attention and draw them in. For example, let's say you were to put up a Looking For post, something like, "I'm looking for a scene with my character Bob, who's a cryptographer with the government, and I want to explore that in RP."
I might reply, "I think my character Alice would be a great fit for this RP; she's a foreign spy with an interest in codes. Maybe she's kidnapped Bob and is trying to get information on the latest encryption?" and see if that catches your interest. And if it does, we've probably got a winner on our hands.
Ultimately, though, it can sometimes take a while to find someone to RP with. It's a lot like dating in that respect; you have to keep putting yourself out there, and rejection, even good natured rejection, stings sometimes. Just gotta keep getting back on that horse, though!
Now, having said all of that, I actually find myself in the market for an RP partner as well at the moment, but I'm not 100% sure what I'd like to do with it. If you've got a few ideas you'd like to explore, why not float me a PM and outline some of them, and we'll see what catches both of our interests?
