Life is so fragile. In milliseconds, all of it can be taken away. Once you've taken a life it is much like a scar. You'll find it easier to do after the pain stops... Sylar's murdering days were done.. For now. He sat on a bench in the park of some city in California, staring out at everyone. Watching how they moved.. How they... Ticked... No!... He couldn't think like that. People weren't machines.. They weren't toys to discover how they worked.. Conflicted.. That expressed Sylar's mind right now. "Damn.." He stood up, walking into a corner cafe for a cup of coffee, when he spotted him. A young man on a date. He was showing his date how he could produce flames at the snap of his fingers. The ticking... That... VILE TICKING! It was over. He had to kill one more.. Take one more, just one more... No. Gritting his teeth he sat there in agony, simply staring at the kid and his girlfriend with a scowl.. Oh how he wanted to kill him, take his ability.. The hunger ticked like a watch... Tick... Tick... Tick... He wondered... Would something happen soon so that he could control this? The chances were slim... [NOTE: Preferred posts are either as the kid with flame powers, or an outside character, perhaps one in the cafe.]
Terus smiled as he showed his girlfriend the trick. He was lucky to have found a girl like her and leaned across the table, gently kissing her cheek, "You ready to go?" She nodded in response and they both stood.
That was it.. Something snapped. Goodbye Gabriel. Hello Sylar.... He stood once the boy and his girlfriend had, following them out of the cafe discreetly. Tick... Tock...
The tall, thin boy put his arm around his girlfriends shoulder and she rested her head against him.
Sylar's footsteps were silent. So very silent... He was a predator, on the prowl... Looking for his next meal, that wouldn't help in the least to fill that deep void of a hunger that Sylar had for power. A lion... A lion that fixed watches. That's what he was.
Terus kissed her head as they came to a very busy intersection and he pressed the button on the light pole to activate the crosswalk light.
He stopped a few feet away from them, keeping a close watch on Terus mainly. It didn't matter about the girl... She'd live if she didn't get involved. However, Terus... If he couldn't put up big enough of a fight, Sylar would take what he wanted. Sadly enough he'd lost the cheerleader, Claire's healing powers. As well as his lie detection. A permanent effect from the last eclipse for some reason.
His "powers" of course weren't real. He was simply wearing a glove that had flint on the fingers and a small bit of gasoline secreted in the palm of the glove. It amused most people though so he called it a power.
Sylar had overlooked this. In all his hunger, he simply.. Ignored it. He wanted to kill. Wanted to take that power. However, once he'd found a place to corner them and discovered the secret, he'd most definitely leave them alone. He had no reason to kill normal humans unless it was in defense.
After crossing the busier street and turning onto a more quiet, suburban road with several houses along it, he guided the girl to her home before continuing down the road, whistling to himself.
What am I doing? This is wrong.. but.. I have to. The thought ran across his mind painfully. He watched Terus with a near-angry expression, a primal expression that said "Bad news". He began to speed up, spotting a darker area where houses gloomed over the sidewalk and road, blocking the sun.. No one was around either. Once he reaches that area.. I can find out how he ticks...
He had his hands in his pockets and he was whistling the theme song from "That 70's Show."
Just then.. A split second. Sylar reached in to grasp the boy's shoulder and pull him back into a restricting embrace. If successful, he'd take him further into the shady area, placing a hand over his mouth. "Don't scream... Or i'll make it hurt."
He yelped in surprise but just nodded as he was told to be quiet.
He smiled. "Good boy... Now... If I remove my hand, will you be quiet?" he asked. "Nod if you will.."
He nodded.
Sylar slowly removed his hand, then placed it on Terus' throat. "Now.. Tell me about your little power that you showed off in the cafe." One might call him insane.. but he could back up his "power" ideas with his own of course. "How do you use it? And furthermore, what extent can it be used to?"
"The fire? It's just a trick!"
"Trick?" He pursed his lips, narrowing his eyes. "Explain. Now." He said, turning around and pressing Terus into the side of the home forcibly so that he could face him.
"It's just a glove!" Terus whimpered and showed it to the man, showing him the two pieces of flint on the thumb and index finger, "The palm has a bit of gasoline in it and the glove is fireproof..."
