A time, where magic users, and any of that sort were feared. If you were to be suspected as a witch, magic user, or magical beast tamer, you would be punished, enslaved, or executed. What wizard would stand up to this, and give magical beings and wizards a good name, something to be proud of...
Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.
