You see, I'm just curious what gets everyone's creativeness flowing?

What kind of RP do you like the most: modern, medieval, fantasy, specific kinds of lore?

Dreams that are small and quaint? Big dreams that offer a lot of variety in landscape and areas for RP?

Violence and gore? Etiquette and poise? Perhaps a bit of both?

Old species: dragons, werewolves, vampires, demons, angels, etc? Or custom species that people have created from their own minds?

I'm considering making a RPR group for RP's but I just really want to know what exactly draws in peoples interests before I put a lot of time into creating something. I would love to hear your opinions.
Speaking of Furcadia, how lively is that place? It's been years since I have been there and I sometimes think about going back, but I keep hearing that it's pretty dead.

As for dreams, well when I was there neither my friends or I were old enough to be in be FurN...though I will shamefully admit that I DID go to FurN a couple of times...To be fair, I only went because an exfriend who had been on furc far longer then I had told me it was ok and had me go with her. Luckily I at least didn't do any rping there, merely checked out a few dreams, but still I am not proud of it.

Moving on, I generally prefer larger dreams as it's often more private and you are more likely to find suitable scenery.

Violence was perfectly fine, but there wasn't too much etiquette or poise since it didn't really fit with the sort of rps we did.

We generally used old species for the most part, one of the more popular species used was hellhound as around three of us, myself included used those. I still hold my hellhound character quite dearly, but have retired her from rping.

Anyway!

I really love medieval fantasy or any kind of historical setting with fantasy/magical elements.

i'm not sure when you tried looking, but there's quite a lot of dreams that allow non-anthro characters now. most of the big communities use RPR for their group pages, so if you haven't already you might find it useful to start searching for 'furcadia' here first!

a lesser known tool i found super useful in my furc RP days was this site here (NFSW language). it lists most of the dreams currently uploaded on furcadia and is updated hourly by a bot, so you can see how many people are around before you jump in!

i had this happen to me too. it's pretty much the most ridiculous thing, but i suppose it saved me from wasting my time with arrogant folk.

Never had that happen to me, strictest rules I ever dealt with was realistic colors. However that really does suck and sounds like you wouldnt want to be there anyway if they had such draconian rules.
@Pomkeki -- have you tried exploring dreams like New versailles, San Angeles, the golden tether and City of souls for human and super natural facilitated roleplays?

In terms of rp I may be alone in my thought process but I think a good roleplay and plot isn't always going to be dramatic like a soap opera or a cheap romance book you get at a grocery store. Constantly dramatic roleplay is exhausting and gets relatively stale just like always doing humor or always doing vanilla/slice of life type of roleplay. And that the best types of roleplay are often times the combination of different genres or changing it up with people. Which doesn't always seem to happen? That they keep reusing the same ol plot like - jimmy John is having a party or getting crunk in the club.

Yet, I think a large issue with rp via furcadia ( or any type of outlet) is the insular behavior that is exhibited which popularized dreamscapes. And that it can be difficult as a new or returning player and roleplay enthusiast to breach such groups with out feeling a little intrepidation or exclusion by said groups. Especially in the ooc rooms. And that people tend to act dramatically and hold grudges for year and over for small things or in general being a human and dealing with personal issues. (This applicable also to roleplay). Just kind of an observation

Smaller communities have been beneficial for me personally. I'm often strapped for time but still want to get involved in creative landscapes and make friends, but achieving that is onerous with most major communities in this era. The dynamic nature and demand for social supremacy in a group (slews of art, custom RPRs, ports, descs, memes, the works.) isn't something I can realistically maintain at this point in my life. Occasionally, I do visit these larger groups just to check in on old friends and dip my toe in the RP water when I have a character that fits or that I can force to fit into the canon. The settings are so rich and incredible that it makes those strict RP communities very alluring, but I have to admit that I'm not up to task on what they ask of an RPer.

As for setting, I'll try anything once if I have a place to jump into it; Medieval fantasy and crime noir have been on my to-do list for years.

In the end it's about the kind of environment and people you want to attract. Good luck!

Oh goodness, I believe we talked about these concerns at length, you and I -- and you're absolutely not the only one to bring it up -- Ohm linked me here when he saw your post and the first thing that came to mind was, "I know this person! This feeling is everywhere on Furcadia!" He and I may have an answer to some of those specific concerns, but it's going to take us some time to create it since we're hard-nosed perfectionists and are trying to weigh our investments judiciously.
/KICKS IN THE DOOR TO THIS THREAD

yes hello i'm a 17 year veteran of this game

i don't prefer furn for community even if that becomes part of the reason i stay. i've always enjoyed adult settings and i don't want to have to censor my posts. Thats my main reason. if i want to get graphically violent then i can. if i want it to get sexual then i can. if i want to throw in a record number of f-bombs then i can. granted, not all of my rps are that way but in furn i don't have to worry if they go that direction

I've found that most of the older players like myself are also located in furn so... it's where my people are LOL what few communities remain are generally pretty great. personally the one i'm in now (new versailles) i've had more fun with in the few years i've been there than probably all my years of furc combined.

as for the game itself, its player base is dropping as can be expected without even a tiny bit of marketing. unless they do something about that very soon i don't see how DEP is going to have an active enough userbase to keep sales going or even deliver the second half of the update. i mean, i will personally be with this game until the day it goes offline but there are definitely some activity issues the head honchos need to deal with asap. but! for the time being if you find yourself a good dream chances are you're gonna enjoy yourself no matter where you are :D
