okay, i'm taking a broader approach for the d20 node riddle and, technically any die fits the criteria for "Clear data, yet inconsistent when viewed from different angles"
but the fact that the master is playing with fireballs and the first clue is "A threat approaches" makes me wonder if it's the damage die for fireball. i don't know if the guardians/masters themselves have ever hinted towards the riddle but it's worth a shot, since it's also a well known d&d spell.
so perhaps either the sum of the sides of 1d6 or 8d6. i'll leave that to the maths people.
