you don't -have- to but it'll ensure your out of its not-crit oneshot range for your first attack

Another thing you could do is use rapiers or laser swords, instead of other, heavier-hitting weapons - the potential for crits and AC boosts is higher with them.

I healed up with hats juuuust to be hit for 135

yeah, like i elaborated above, the emperor's damage output is just plain crazy

you can attack any time you want, i'm just saying that it's safest once you're over 45 hp
