They kept talking about him, hurtful things that made Dean look like a monster. Dean could hear every word even in the other room. He punched a punching bag letting out his anger and frustration but he never gave up hope. He stopped after round house kicking the punching bag launching it to the other side of the room. He turned around, grabbed a water bottle and sat down on a metal chair. The thing he wanted the most was to see his family again. He put the bottle down and put his head in his hands, not crying but just sat there wanting to die.
Layla jumped up and yelled. " HEY! He isn't a monster so stop acting like he is! He saved you all so stop acting like dumb idiots and be quiet!"
"Layla! Calm down!" Andrew grabbed her wrist and pulled her down, "Let them have their opinions. They're wrong so just ignore them," he said, slowly stroking her hair.
Her cheeks turned red as she crosses her arms."....Damn Jerks."
Dean heard her yell and knew she was protecting him, he was grateful. He picked up some food and handed it around to survivors. He made his way to Layla and Andrew and keeled down besides them "thank you for that" He smiled as he stood up, a Photo of a 15 year old girl hand a lady fell out of his pocket onto Layla's lap
"It's alright," he rubbed his furry cheek against hers.
She looked at it and then back at him."Dean!" She tried to make sure she didn't bend it or mess it up in anyway possible.
"Yeah?" Dean said as he turned to face her. He saw the photo in her hand, he jogged towards her letting out a sigh of relief as he took it. "Thanks" he said holding it sliding it into his pocket
"Who is that?" She tilted her head.
"Wife an daughter?" Andrew guessed.
Dean's smile vanished. "Y...Yeah" he handed them the picture again. There was a date on the bottom right of picture it was taken 100 years ago.
Layla quickly understood and stayed quiet.
"That's Jessica my daughter and the woman next to her was Angelina, my wife" memories returned from beyond the grave. He remembered taking his family out for a picnic once and stopping by a beautiful lake. "I wish i could go back. Only to see them again" a pain would always hit him when he saw the picture "the last time i saw them, my wife said she had a surprise when i got home" he looked down to the ground "If i knew there wasn't going to be a next time then i wouldn't have let them do this to me, i was kept in a cooling chamber frozen for 100 years, they said they'd take me out after a couple of hours"
Layla got up and hugged him tight."It's alright...just don't think about it." She looks up at him.
Dean smiled as she hugged him "when you're as old as me you kind of have to, besides theres no going back" a tear ran down his cheek. "I just wanted to hug my little girl again"
"I-I'm sorry," was all Andrew could manage to say. He couldn't really imagining something like that happening. He couldn't comprehend Daniels emotions and it hurt him to think about it.
She wipes his tear with a sweet and gental hand.
Dean sat down opposite them both with his head facing the ground "well... There no use dwelling in the past" more tears streamed down his cheeks. "the reason why I do this is to let all my frustration and anger out on the mutants" he slowly stood up and turned around "and then all I am left with is sorrow" he slowly walked away.
Layla looked down and sighed she got up and walked after him and grabbed his hand."Wait."
Dean stopped and looked over his shoulder "y-yeah" he cleaned the tears before turning around and facing her with a small fake smile
