First of all, I want to point out that I'm not sure if this is a glitch or a setting (epic members only, maybe?), so I didn't want to send a ticket without asking.

So, I'm setting up a group, and I've uploaded my own icon. The problem is my image lost its transparency. I tried both .png and .gif filetypes, but both end up blacking out the transparent background. Both files were within the proper filesize restrictions, and I shrunk them down to 35x35 by hand, to avoid distortion in automated shrinking. Then I tried uploading them to another image host, and they worked fine there.

I looked at other groups to see if they anyone else had icons with transparency, and it seems there are a few (Edhen being the first I saw, and X-Men the second), so it seems it was possible at one point.

tl;dr I uploaded a transparent icon, and it was given a black background. Is there a reason why?

Thanks in advance!

I looked at the Browse Groups page and found The Salerno Family is your group, correct? Does the icon still have a black background in this list?

The transparency seems to work fine to me. If you continue to have this issue, try clearing your browser cache (or press Ctrl+F5 on the page you see the icon to force a hard refresh). It doesn't appear to be an issue on the site's end, though!

I'm see it as having a kind of peach looking background on it, not a black background. If Salerno is indeed the group you are referring to! I assume this was done to simulate transparency while you were trying to figure this out.

The size is actually 32 x 32. :) The black background occurs when the server is forced to resize an image with a transparent background, which will occur at the 35 size. Close though! I advise you to double check that it's double certain 100% surely the correct size or less -- If it is, the server will save it without any modifications, transparency and all.

If that doesn't work, definitely let me know!

Ooh, clever! I didn't see this. :D And durr, I feel silly for not realizing 35x35 was an odd number. :c Oh well! That would certainly explain the blackness though. The same happens with images uploaded to the gallery. Transparent backgrounds cause thumbnails with black backgrounds if you have the lightbox enabled.

Ha! Silly me, misreading the size. Yes, I just needed to shrink it down a few pixels. Thank you very much. :)

And yes, I actually took a screenshot of the forums and set it behind the image to simulate the transparency. XD
