Centuries ago, there was a war among the stars. It was won by Humanity: an outpost of civilized life that, at the last, managed to barely defeat their darkest creation. Evidence of that final conflict was buried and burned away from the minds of a panicked populace.
Everyone made themselves forget. And no outsider ever learned of it.

You are a hired hand retained by the Murata corporation. Murata has funded an archaeological expedition to Drea 3, once the home of a now-extinct early human colony, Doctor Kangee Mundoo in nominal command.
But you know what's really going on. Murata specializes in mining and speculation, not bone hunting. There's something about Drea 3 they want. Otherwise, why would they have hired you?

This adventure takes place in the 24th century. The galaxy is dominated by pure laissez faire capitalism. And you are one of the people that help keep it all alive. Appropriate character types include hired guns, shuttle pilots, scientists, hackers, and business people.
Races include the following:
Humans - Standard unaltered hairless monkeys
Lamasu - Genetically engineered humans designed for low-gravity. Pale and thin.
K'Ixxl - Hexapedal insect species, defeated by humanity centuries ago, now living in peace.
Technology level: FTL through "hyper gates," cryogenics, AI. No anti-gravity, ray guns or warp drive. Experimental technologies are rumored but not commonly available.

Far future, perhaps interstellar travel (faster than light)
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.

I've got a hacker that can be used. I'll have to tone down his sexual activity by a large factor, but he's a very serious character.
