Cryptid

Oh boy, I feel like I'm about to be blasted with flames and trolling.

Well anyway here I am asking this question anyway, I'd appreciate all responses are polite regardless of your belief in the multiverse.

Looking for Mature/Sane fictionkin. By that I mean rational individuals, not SJW's and self-diagnostic kids from Tumblr. This includes people who know they are not their past kin species in this universe, they know they can't act like said kin in this life and certain universal rules apply. Definitely not the type who go "I'm vampire kin and the sun triggers me, tag your sun privilege" kind of deal.

Can you define fictionkin?

Welcome to a long explanation.

Okay, so most Fictionkin believe in the multiverse theory. Basically, there are limitless parallel universes out there and so potentially there are ones where our fictional characters are real. If this were true, said fictional characters could live and die, and then be reborn into another universe. Thus explaining how one could end up identifying spiritually as having been a character in a past life like Twilight Sparkle. This would also account for memories and what not that aren’t featured in the show/book/movie the character is from.

Fictionkin are people who identify as fictional characters or species. Fictionkin can be from any sort of media material, including books, TV shows, plays, comics, and movies. They may see their identity as spiritual (such as reincarnation related) or psychological. Some Fictionkin even believe that they are living as this universe’s version of a character, and are still living as said character in another dimension. Many Fictionkin rely on the Multiverse Theory, believing that fictional characters and species from stories here exist in other universes. However, others do take a very non-spiritual approach and consider their identity to be purely psychology based, and believe that being who or what they are is not past life or alternate universe related.

Fictionkin generally reports a familiarity with their canon world and the characters and species within it. Landscapes may seem familiar upon being exposed to their canon, as can lighting. Often Fictionkin will experience strong deja vu associated with their canon and (if they are a fictional character) their character’s life events. Some fictionkin even have emotional reactions when, for example, watching a movie with their character in it, especially if events were traumatic. These Fictionkin may, therefore, have difficulty when exposed to their canon even long after the initial exposure, although most ctionkin do enjoy their canon. Fictionkin tend to feel as if they are looking in a mirror when they see their character or species, and may identify with other details, such as their character’s or species’ voice and behavior. Nevertheless, Fictionkin may or may not act the way they acted in canon, and may or may not regret the (negative) events that took place during their time as a particular character or species. For example, many villainous character ‘kin do regret their behaviors and actions from the past, while others claim that they would do what they did again in a heartbeat. Even so, the vast majority villain fictionkin do understand the rules and limitations set in place in this realm and do abide by them. Many fictionkin who are canon, but who don’t always act the way their character or species did, attribute these differences in behavior to growing up in this world and taking on behaviors learned here that may take priority over their character or species behavior now. This is simply because these learned behaviors play a more predominant role in this life due to coping mechanisms, cultural norms, and other factors.

While a good chunk of fictionkin identify as the same exact species or character as portrayed in their canon, there are some fictionkin who do not. These fictionkin consider themselves AU, or alternate universe fictionkin. An example of an AU fictionkin would be an evil version of a hero character, or even a small detail, such as a brunette version of a blonde character.

I'm more of a firm believer of reincarnation kin than psychological. Considering when someone has a traumatic event and identifies as another person or cope it's a mental occurance rather than a past life experience.

I can hear all the roleplayers making sounds of utter disgust in the background.
Not disgusted. I just saw the post before and decided to read it later. I don't mean to be condescending but it sounds pretty adorable and understandable to me. I can't say I'm one of them, though I am from a minority group too.

Just wanted to say, if you're worried about someone with too much sensitivity befitting tumblr stereotypes I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Even if someone fits into that group, if you intend to write with them in roleplay it may never even come up or cause a problem otherwise. The only politics I've seen on this site tend to be on the side of tolerance and mutual respect, so most likely if you give, you'll get.

I wish you luck in your search.

I appreciate your kind words. Most roleplayers I've met despise fictionkin due to the fact they believe they cant distinguish rp from reality. Or many fictionkin respond in Roleplay like style to most things and it is hard for regular roleplayers to distinguish the difference.

Moi. Bonjour fellow fickin!

I'm fictionkin.

I explain to many people who don't understand it in a kind way. My Fickin list is on my page!
Hi...now I've never heard of fiction kin before today, but after reading the description I'm starting to think I am one...is that weird?

No. It wouldn't.

I have had dreams where I was my kins. Such as ones as Gunvolt, Asroc, Merak, etc. It's nothing bad.

Oh hello fellow friends! Also no dear, being kin isn't bad just avoid the kin community on tumblr.

I have ran into some of the bad side of Kins. I have met people who get vicious to the point the block and report others who share the same character. I.E going off on a "No clones!" Mindset. Then there are the people who spout slurrs and make fun of people who are kin and use the whole "U R NOT A CARTOON CHARACTER U R A HOOMAN!" attitude.

Most people call me by my kin name and accepted me for who I am and what I feel.

I see no problem with this. I think it's common for people to have strong feelings and connections to certain characters, I definitely connect to mine. I even adore a character that had the least amount of storytelling out of an entire RPG game, and yet he still plagues my thoughts. I just love his concept and personality!

It sounds like Fictionkin is one step further. While I'm not sure what people mean when they say "psychological" in this context - it sounds like a misunderstanding of what something psychological would actually be - the concept sounds harmless. I'm not sure why this would be any less acceptable than any other belief system regarding reincarnation or spiritual connection.

I've thought about multiverse theory a lot over the years, but I hadn't considered the possibility that fictional characters might be living in another universe... Maybe we're the fictional ones in their universe? That idea sounds cool, but it also makes their deaths seem much more heart wrenching...

Anyway, I think you'll find that most people here are very open minded.

Psychological kin is usually based on identifying with an identity as a coping mechanism due to trauma, pretty much like MPD.

I don't discredit it but I have my gears toward my belief approach vs others.

I wouldn't mind a group for this. It be nice to meet other FicKins.

I am honestly curious about this subject. It's something that's been playing on my mind for a few months.

Tumblr's general view on Kin is quite... toxic, to put it nicely. I've seen mixed views and many different ways to say what kin is. I really want to know more about it, as my own feelings about certain characters might be related but I'm unsure.

For example, the character Bendy from BATIM is someone I adore greatly. So much so that I draw a lot of him, which is rare for me to do so much fanart. Actually, I don't do fanart at all.

Though I wouldn't call myself kin for Bendy. I'm the type of person who will outright love something for three months straight before forgetting it entirely after.

This is an idea I'd like to explore personally though. But tell me, is it more than finding a character aesthetically pleasing, or their personality is similar to your own? I really want to know what defines kin.

Sorry if this sounds patronising/menacing at all. I always worry about coming off the wrong way when asking questions due to previous reactions I've got from asking simply questions of curiousity.
