I don't know why I thought this story would be able to be open. After nervously filling potential plotholes (of which I'm sure there are plenty more) I am positive this is too technical to be that way. So in lieu of that I'm gonna go ahead and welcome people to fill some roles for themselves! And here's the perfect place to discuss it!
Light of Malbr is a far-future rp premise I just wrote up about a newly formed nation on the moon called Malbr, which orbits a gas planet Te'vose. There might be other moons, I hadn't put thought to it... but basically a foreign trade prince seized control of the place and instituted their own government so that they could have a near monopoly on the rare elemental gas that Te'vose has to offer. The Foreign Benefactor, their dictator-in-disguise has done a decent job of running the place so far, making the third world conditions pretty first world and creating a gigantic generator connected to all of the provinces (which are also intentionally vague x_x) to solve an energy crisis.
A nearby federation (also vague) decides they want to overthrow the local government to get in on that sweet gas money but the Benefactor is having none of that. Much of the standing army goes to fight in open space, leaving a lack of people able to protect the colonies themselves. So the trade prince hires a bunch of mercenaries via a complicated contract deal with nice pay to guard important places, most notably the Generator they just finished making. The story begins by the perspective of the mercenaries guarding said generator; foreign powers have laid plans to seize this nation and their spies may pay the facility a visit soon...
I haven't written it yet and I'm making up a lot of this as I go but someone has their eyes on the massive structure that my character's fellow mercenaries are protecting. So there are a few key roles to fill off the bat, some necessary and some optional.
The necessary ones are:
The Foreign Benefactor (Doesn't have to be immediately present. Likely will be behind the scenes for a while.)
couple o' mercs (have 1)
The Warlord (Similar to Benefactor but closer to home.)
The optional ones are:
(insert vague federation forces here)
Generator employees/civilians
Malbr Army Overseers
So I suppose I'll need at least three or four other folks to join me in this RP. Don't get too caught up in the technicalities of character design in a sci fi setting unless you enjoy it; my character is pretty out there in the first place.
I intend for this rp to be largely free form but if we come across something we can't decide what to do with dice use is probably gonna be used. Apparent probability matters but since we're already pretty far future I'm not gonna stress too much on it. I also would like to say that paragraphs are not always required, depending on what's going on but I encourage folks to post at least three lines or so. Just so that things don't dry up or important information is forgotten. There's a lot to be discussed as the story goes on so I may use this thread to also talk OOC with folks but I might make it a separate thread; it depends on how things go.
Don't be shy! I'm new to rping in a non-medieval setting so I'm not feeling too picky right now!
EDIT: Decided to post the map on OP too.
-Riagan is at gate 2. He always liked being near the place he would be eating lunch.
-I made accessible places highlighted in green, and inaccessible things black. Red is dead. (if you go there.)
-The reason I didn't include the entire sphere is because there's only more wall surrounding the generator beyond the picture's corners. Nothing to see there, really no entrances/exits.
-Warlord's place is not a place the warlord would likely be most of the time. He's like the corporate big guy; drops in once in a while and usually has better things to do. Its just a big office with some more classified documents; well guarded.
-I'm still working out a lot of what it would look like in my head. I'd make the 'map' more aesthetically pleasing and picture-like if I was settled on a design for the local flora.
-The "insert 40 floors" part goes for the entire inner wall; there's a lot of waste to be shoveled and a lot of batteries to be stored and transported out, so different floors are in constant use. There'll be vehicles dropping off waste/used batteries and picking up new, full batteries for separate use in case of trouble. There are also a lot of workers in there all day doing their thing, mostly locals though specific species aren't more likely than others on Malbr.

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
Far future, perhaps galactic teleporters and fast terraforming
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
Details: Occasional dice use, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.
I almost got here before it closed, darn ;^;
If you want to play someone in this setting you can, it hasn't even started yet. I just posted the IC thread cause I didn't want to lose my writing/I wanted folks to have something to look at if they were more curious about what is going on in the setting.
Does this character look suitable?
Looks a-ok to me! I'm assuming he would be a mercenary, though he could be a lot of things tbh. Is that the case?

Pretty much! Though later down the line, it can be noted that credits and coin aren't exactly his main interest.
Sounds good! This is going to be a very amoral crew at this point. xD
Edit: I feel like I should draw up some maps of relevant stuff. The generator's supposed to be massive so the building covering it is even bigger. I could try to describe it but I think this would be the better alternative.

Fair enough. It'll definitely clear any confusion over the area.
Made it happen. I did a terrible job, imo, but I hope it'll give a small semblance of where everything is. I should note a few things:
