Story Details
There is a story that really never gets spoken of because it is mired in mystery, that of the Roanoke settlement; The mysterious colony that disappeared without a trace. When he settlers became nervous of their new home, they convinced their leader, John White, to return to England and ask for help. While he reluctantly left, little did he know that he would never see any of these people again...
Upon White's return in 1590, not a single living soul was found. Only a husk remained of the settlement of two-story, thatched-roof cottages. 117 people, had been uprooted inexplicably. There was no evidence of war, famine or any other possible reason for the colony's complete disappearance. Only a roughly built fort surrounding the former settlement was all that signaled of the former presence of the colonists. And on the post was craved only one clue, the word "CROATOAN".
Now, there are theories of what happened: was the entire settlement swallowed up by the bay waters? Did they fall victim to the Spanish? Did the hostile tribes kill off the men and take woman and children as their slaves? Did they seek help through the friendly Croatan tribe? Did they fall victim to plague and began killing and eating each other?
The Croatans reported that, simultaneously with disappearance of the colonists, there was a great depletion of the game in the forests and fields. All the species of wildlife had died; birds had fallen from the sky as well. This was due to an evil spirit, the original source of all evil, able to attach itself to humans and the human victim would become territorial and venomous like the snakes in which the spirit took form of.
Who knows what is to be fact or fiction...will the truth every come out?
Prolouge
The local Native American tribe living in the coastal areas of what is now known as North Carolina, spoke of two spirits. One, if angered; had the ability to absorb the offenders into the woods. The other was that of a "greater spirit", whom took the form of a reptile. Being the manifestation of the elements, this spirit was able to attach itself to humans, causing them to demonstrate demonic traits like violence, rapaciousness, and greed.
Little did the Croatan's know that these two spirits were one in the same.
This spirit had a name, her name was Croatoan. Like before, it was time to wage war with the spiritual desolation of modern civilization. They thought they owned the Earth, but they belonged to the Earth. They had not weaved the web of life, but were merely a strand on the web. What befalls the Earth, befalls the children of the Earth. It was time to punish the children...whatever they had done to the Earth, they had done to themselves...
