Whilst Barrus was fairly small compared to an average Brute. But that granted him agility most Brutes lacked. He avoided a pair of grenades launched by the Commander. He kept his plasma rifle aimed at and firing at the commander.

One of the Jackals, a sniper who kept in the cover of the escape pod, aimed his beam rifle at the circling Brutes. He waited for them to pass a few times, before firing.

The Jackals shot hit the Brute. One of them was hit square in the neck causing him to drop and his vehicle turning and digging itself into the dirt. As the second Brute Chopper came around full speed the driver didn't have time to react and he impacted the side laying Chopper of his ally as they exploded into flames. The commander roared in anger as Barrus dodged but found himself pulling back as three plasma shots hit his stomach. His fur singed and flesh burnt in he fell back and roared in pain. Despite the injury he survived.

Barrus holstered his plasma rifle and withdrew his Plasma Repeater. He leveled it at the Commander. He pulled the trigger and launched a scattered blast of plasma at the Brute, singing more of his fur.

By now the combined fire of the remaining grunts and Jackals had killed off the another of the three Brutes that were with the commander. The Jackal sniper took aim at the driver of the Prowler and fired.

The barrage of plasma repeater fire shredded the commanders chest. Plasma blew several smoldering holes into him and through him to the ground. He went limp as the remaining Brutes were cut down in plasma fire. The battlefield fell silent as the Brute forces were destroyed. Their bodies littering the ground with plasma wounds.

Barrus and his troops waited incase any other brutes were waiting in the forest. None came. Barus snorted, holstering his gun. He turned to his troops. Two more had died before the attackers had been stopped. There were only five left, not counting Barrus and Keloth.

"Grab their weapons and whatever ammunition they have left on them. I don't care if you've been authorized to use those kinds of weaposn or not." Barrus said, before going back into the pod. He came out carrying Keloth, who'd passed out by now. Barrus placed Keloth on one of the platforms on the side of the Prowler. "Get in the turret." Barrus ordered the sniper Jackal. It nodded, before climbing into the gunner's seat. Barrus walked over to one of Grunt corpses. He slammed his claws into its methane tank, puncturing the device. "That should mask our scent." Barrus said, as Methane hsot out of the tank. He disconnected the other methane tanks and placed them on the side platforms of the Prowler with the Grunts. He got into the driver's seat before starting the Prowler up and heading off through the forest.

The radio from the dead captain sparked to life as the Prowler left. The receiver was burnt out from nearby plasma fire and with the wearer being dead was not answered. Meanwhile back at a forward Brute position set up atop a peak a Brute wearing a similar but slightly smaller chieftain headpiece snarled.
"The communications with a scout have been lost. I want them found. If communications are down I want them repaired. If they're dead I want those that did it made the same." He snaps to a set of Brutes who stand nearby. He flare their nostrils and nod walking off. The outpost had a small frigate above them docked with a gravity well. Walls were set up and a gate. Four sniper towers were along the wall each with two Jackal snipers armed with beam rifles. Two grunts with plasma pistols remained with them as additional support. Either side of the gate fortification were two turrets manned by grunts and along the ground were retractable barricades so vehicles could get in and out as well as deplorable shields. Two heavy platforms with two mounted plasma turrets were established manned by Brutes on turrets and carbine wielding Jackals. Moving out were three Wraiths and four more Prowlers on patrols. The position was highly defended and with two Anti Air Wraiths defending the open back leading and looking over the vast landscape from the cliff it would be very difficult to assault with limited resources and a suicidal frontal attack.

The prowler with Barrus and his troops tore through the brush. He was thankful Brute vehicles were built to be tough. The Jackal in the gunner's seat began to sniff. It hissed, glancing back at Barrus. Barrus began sniffing as well. "I smell it too. Fire." Barrus said. He took a few more smells. He snarled. "Smells like burning plasma." Barrus said.

The Prowler broke through the brush into a clearing. There was a massive crater, stretching out to a crashed phantom. It was on fire and too heavily damaged to be used or salvaged. Barrus stopped the Prowler a few yards from the Phantom and got off. "Stay in the gunners seat. The rest of you, with me." He ordered, drawing his plasma rifle and one of his Gravity axes.

Barrus and his troops approached the phantom. "You two stay outhere on guard." Barrus said to the last two Jackals with him. Their senses would be invaluable in this situation. Barrus pried open one of the side doors and stepped inside, looking around. "Scavenge any supplies or weapons you can find." Barrus ordered.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

Hidden around the phantom and on the above hills were Da'tresee and their forces. Da'tresee was atop the cliffs watching down to the group below. With carbine drawn they looked at the Brute and his smaller forces. The other surviving elites prepared to take their shots with their carbines before Da'tresee raised a fist. Indicating the prowler and on it the wounded form of their ship master. Da'tresee took at the brute but then had a realization. Barrus. Keloths little pet Brute. Their helmet was still cracked and damaged and moving around the ledge leaped down using their jump pack to land them self.
"Barrus wasn't it?" They say from behind the Brute. The other surviving Elites and Skirmisher raised their weapons on the surrounding cliffs cautious of the Brute and his forces. With a damaged helmet the methane smell crept into Da'tresee's helmet and they shivered. Such a foul smelling odor.

The three remaining Grunts nodded and went inside. They immediately began looking around. They only found a few Plasma rifles, msot of them had dead batteries, and a Carbine and a few batteries for it. The Jackals outside let out shrieks when they saw Da'Tresee float to the ground.

Barrus glanced over his shoulder at Da'Tresee, before turning. "Surprised to see you alive. I assume this was your Phantom?" Barrus questioned. The Jackals let out several Squawks. Barrus steppedo utside, looking up to see the rest of Da'Tresee's troops surounding them from above on some raised ground. Barrus snorted. "Lower your weapons. I do not believe Da'Tresee is here to kill us." Barrus said to his men, before turning back to Da'Tresee. "Do you have a medic? My Fa-Fleetmaster Keloth has been gravely wounded. I did what I could be medicine isn't my specialty." Barrus said.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

Da'Tresee looked to the Brute with a glare like daggers.
"After recent events we can understand why they're cautious. Don't worry we're not here for trouble." Da'Tresee says as their voice comes over filled with static. "Blasted helmet." Unlocking the helmet the gas from the inner suit releases letting out a whistle. Lifting off the the front face plate Da'Tresee reveals their face. Something which may surprise the Brute and others. Da'Tresee was a female. A female Sangheili was something rarely seen. She was more slender in the face than others but her reptilian look and sheer intimidation were present. "Blasted thing was damaged in the crash." She says her voice a slightly higher pitch than the others but in no way nonthreatening. "Yea we have a medic. Zohk go help Keloth." The skirmisher jumps down and with its chirping response heads over to the wounded Elite.

"I always thought something smelled strange about you." Barrus said. "We should get moving as soon as we can." Barrus said. "A scouting party found my men and I at our escape pod, and I fear it will only be a matter of time before they track this phantom down." Barrus said.

In the distance, the sound of a Fuel Rod Cannon going off could be heard. Barrus sniffed the air, before snorting. "Hunters." Barrus said. "Think we should investigate?" Barrus asked.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

The sound was not missed by Da'Tresee.
"My men shall investigate. Two of them will scout out while we prepare to leave. Five minutes then we'll head down that path." She points to a route through the cliffs. "Scouting ahead it leads to the lower jungle and the Prowler should make it through. At least most of the way." She explains and selects two of her men. "You both scout and see what happens then meet us at the base of this mountain down that path. Don't be followed." They nod and using their surprisingly quiet jump packs head off to investigate. "We should move." Da'Tresee says to the Brute. Not as a suggestion but frankly an order.

Barrus nodded. "Is there anything here we could use to mask your scents?" Barrus asked. "If we aren't able to deal with those we might as well stay here. Once a scouting party gets here they'll be able to track us. They'll be able to track us even better if the rest of my kind are employing Jackals." Barrus said.

The two Elites landed in the forest, walking the rest of the way to where the sound was heard. "I'm surprised that Brute didn't try and attack us." Said one of the Elites. He'd ditched his helmet shortly after the crash, with the crash having damaged it. "Why do you think they attacked?" The Elite asked. "Vydus probably decided he knew better than Fleetmaster Keloth." The second Elite said. This one kept his helmet and was clad in blue armor. The Second Elite chucled. "Perhaps the fools think killing us proves their skill in combat? And that the Prophets will reward them for this treason?" He chuckled.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

Da'Tresee looks to the ruined Phantom.
"If you had something to pry open past the rear paneling we should be able to get a fuel tank out. Releasing the fuel over the area and igniting it will certainly produce an odor to mask our own." The Looks inside to some damaged and bent paneling. "Burning plasma will cause even the most well trained trackers to turn up their nose in disgust. Plus it'll look like a simply wreckage especially if we cause a detonation inside.

Barrus nodded. He pulled out one of his gravity axes, igniting its blade before heading to the back paneling.

"Well it's not like Brutes are known for their inteligence." The first Elite chuckled, before they heard another fuel rod explosion, alongside plasma, spiker, and bruteshot fire. Both raised their weapons and slowly approached the source of the sounds. There was a nearby clearing with an escape pod in the center of it. Numerous Elite corpses littered the ground. Fighting in the clearing as a lone Hunter, its bond brother having been killed in a surprise attack, and a large pack of Brutes.

Even with their numbers, and natural strength and resilience, the Hunter was tearing the Brutes apart. The Hunter's armor nullified any explosives or plasma. None of the Brutes were fast enough to get behind the Hunter, before being violently crushed beneath its massive shield. A Brute Chieftain roared, before it charged forward, its Gravity Hammer ready. It swung, managing to hit the Hunter. The Hunter staggered back slightly, before throwing its self forward, ramming into the Chieftain. It let out a deep, enraged bellow as it continued it's charge, ramming into a few other Brutes, before slamming into a tree, killing the Brutes. It quickly spun around, slamming its shield into a Spike Grande, and launching it back to the Brute that threw it.

The grenade stabbed into the Brute before exploding, killing it and the few remaining Brutes. The Hunter let out a final, victorious roar, before it slumped forward, and lumbered towards its fallen brother before falling to its knees, beginning to mourn. The Elite's stepped out. The Hunter quickly rose to its feet and spun around to face them. It stared them down for a moment, before lowering its cannon and shield.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

The Rangers looked over the brutal battlefield. Debris scattered around with the smell of burnt plasma and metal around caused the now helmet lacking Elite to recoil at the scent. But he moved through without much more response.
"It would seem this one came with the drop pod." He says indicating the escape pods broken away door. The Elites on the outside were killed by Spiker rounds indicated by the sharp cooled spikes in them. The Brute seemed the same. Plasma burns joined the wounds on its back. Looking like it was quickly brutalized from the back. The blood rage this one was sent into was severe. Some of the Brute corpses weren't even intact. Some seemed severed likely by the shield. Others Crushed to a meaty paste. The hunters shield was covered in blood and it's noises were those of morning a loved one. A Prowler was flipped over nearby and Wraith had the gun blasted apart and gaping tears were the pilot would be. This was impressive even for a Hunter.
"Yes it would seem such." The helmeted Elite stated in reply. "It's morning its bond brothers death. They're surprisingly emotional creatures." They look to each other and nod. "Come with us. More of them will arrive and you probably won't be so lucky a second time. You can avenge your brother. We shall make sure you can strike down many more Brutes." The helmeted Elite says keeping his distance. The two were ready to leave with or without the Hunter. Though with was preferred given his combat prowess.

A groan escaped the Hunter a sit turned back to its bond brother's corpse. It noticed an incendiary grenade on the ground near a dead Brute. It picked the device up. It fiddled with the grenade for a few moments, before activating it. It dropped the grenade on its bond brother, letting the flames ignite the dead worms inside. It wouldn't leave its brother to be food. It watched the corpse burn for a moment before it turned, a low groan escaping it, as it lumbered towards the Elites.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

The Elites were frankly speechless. They heard of such a bond between the Lekgolo worms and Mgalekgolo hives. But to see what was essentially a cremation in front of themselves was outside reason. They nodded and began heading back as the deceased Hunter burst into flames and the worms started to burn up.

Back at camp Da'Tresee had set up the fuel tanks. Tipping it out she covered the ground and area around the Phantom. The other one was loosened and leaked into the back of the Phantom. Da'Tresee threw the Brute a grenade she took from a Grunt. "As we leave toss it in. The whole thing should ignite and burn. She listens out hearing no more fire. "We depart in one minute."

Barrus nodded. He heard heavy foot steps quickly approaching, and the Elites returned with the Hunter. There grav packs came to life lifting them off the ground, before lowering themselves to where the others were and landing. The Hunter jumped from the ledge it was on, landing with a loud thud and a small tremor. The Grunts and Jackals quickly got out of the way, not wanting to be stomped on by the Hunter. It was a well known fact that the hunters only truly had any respect for Elites in the Covenant, and it wasn't uncommon to have non Elite infantry be squashed, crushed, or blown up by Hunters who couldn't care less about them. The hunter eventually took a seat on a nearby rock and stared at the ground. "Commander." Spoke one of the two Elites. "We found this hunter. It was the only survivor of its escape pod." The Elite explained.
Prophet of Truth (played by Dreath)

Da'Tresee noticed the fact it was alone and the blood stained shield being red in tint suggested Brutes or Humans. Both had a strong iron smell. "We don't have much time. The Hunter will need to be prepared to walk. We move out now." He says as her Rangers and medic nod and leap away. Heading up the cliffs to begin moving. "Toss the grenade then we shall go." She says to Barrus as she approaches the hunter. "You lost your bond brother?" She inquires to a sorrow filled nod. "We shall avenge them. Come. Vengeance is this way." She points down the path and leaps away to head off with the Elites.
