They are fun, endless, inspiring, silly, serious and most importantly a tool rescuing us from writer's block and dead ends. Random generators serve many purposes in both roleplay and other fictional writing and I know they saved my roleplays from becoming stale or stuck many times over. I want to make a collective of the most favorite generators for easy reference!

Adventure/Plot generators:

• donjon: Random Adventure Generator A very detailed and elaborate generator that can provide single ideas, or tie multiple ideas together into one big plot. Recommended for serious plots!
• D&D Adventure Hook Random Generator A simple D&D/Fairie Tale/Bare Bones generator. Small plot ideas and twists for serious plots.
• Short Story Ideas - Scenario Generator Generates mostly modern scenarios for novels and roleplays. Can be both serious and silly, depending on what's generated.
• Short Story Ideas - Plot Twist Creates a plot twist for almost any tale.

Character generators:

• Short Story Ideas - Character Generator Generates simple characters, male or female, with name and personality traits.
• Seventh Sanctum - Characters Various character generators, mostly varying between Anime and Fantasy.
• Seventh Sanctum - Skills, Abilities and Traits Creates a set of skills/abilities/traits for your character.
• Seventh Sanctum - Beings Generates entire races and creatures, varying from Aliens to Fantasy and Deity generators.

Name generators:

• donjon - Fantasy Name Generator Possibly the biggest selection of names from various backgrounds I have found!
• Behind the Name Offers names with meanings from various backgrounds.
• Seventh Sanctum - Names Generates random names. Mainly fantasy/medieval themed names, includes species specific names such as Elven and Dwarven.

Setting generators:

• Seventh Sanctum - Settings Creates settings, names for places, randomly generates names for Sci-Fi objects and so forth.
• Seventh Sanctum - Magic Generates magical spells, potions, enchantments and so forth. Serious and funny generators!

Various generators:

• Short Story Ideas - Random Words Provides a random set of words to inspire your writing.
• Short Story Ideas - Random Images Provides random images to inspire your writing.
