"Dean! Heel, heel!" The plaintive cries of a man in distress could be heard over the mindless chatter of pedestrian traffic as one man's dog broke free and pelted down the heavily trafficked area.
Sam felt the harness rip free of his fingers as his guide dog suddenly bolted forward. There was no bark, no warning growl, nothing. One moment he'd been walking along, happy as could be with his newfound freedom in having a guide dog at his fingertips, and the next, he was standing in the middle of a crowded sidewalk alone and completely overwhelmed.
"Dean!" A note of panic entered his voice now. Two weeks of having a guide dog and he was just now starting to get comfortable with his new sense of freedom. Only to have this happen. How could he have lost his guide dog? Why would his guide dog have run off like that? Was there a cat? He had no clue that some woman up ahead had just had her purse snatched by a thief, nor that his dog was currently running full-out to tackle the thief.
His dark shades obscured his sightless eyes, as well as the tears that probably began to gather as Sam fought off a panic-attack. He never should have gotten a guide dog. It had been a mistake. And then someone ran into him, shoving him aside and he yelped as he stumbled forward. His foot found grass from the median as he pitched forward hearing the blast of a horn. The only thought racing through his head as he envisioned being struck by a car was: "Please don't be a Buick!"

A female wih soft hands quickly grasped his hands and pulled him back. "Are you alright, sir?" She quickly picked up that he was blind. She dusted him off a bit and smiled. She softly put his hand down next to his hip. She placed her hands behind her back.
Sam freaked out a little, his life flashing before his blind eyes, before someone's hands grabbed him and pulled him out of harm's way. It took him a moment before finally recovering enough to realize someone was talking to him and that he'd been saved.
A...woman or a girl, it was hard to say; perhaps her voice sounded young. And he swallowed, trying to rein back his fear.
"I-I'll be okay, I think. Thank you. Um, have you seen my dog? He's about this tall," he bent down a little to approximate the dog's shoulder height, "and he's got a harness on him. He took off on me suddenly."
Said dog was approximately five hundred feet ahead of them, sitting on the purse-snatcher, tail wagging as the criminal attempted to struggle free to no avail.

(Can I join?.)
(Absolutely! The more the merrier.)
The female giggled and noticed the dog. "I would think so. Just stay here please." She quickly ran to the dog, her taking out spare chains and wrapping them around the thief befor walking the dog back to its master. "Here you go sir. Just hold on tighter. It seems the dog you got here likes to catch criminals."
Sam nodded and waited, wondering what on earth was going on. "Stupid cats," he grumbled under his breath, still feeling the whoosh of traffic as cars and pedestrians carried on with their lives.
At last the girl returned with his dog, but his jaw dropped at her explanation. "Wait, criminals?! It wasn't a cat then? Dean, heel!" The dog stepped beside him, tail whapping him lightly against his heels as though pleased at his good deed. Sam once again grasped the dog's harness.
"Don't tell me they sent me the wrong type of dog," he groaned. Then shaking his head he added, "My name's Sam. This mongrel is Dean. Thanks for saving me." Really, the whole thing could have ended tragically.

"I'm cross. Cross Naginata." She patted Dean's head softly and stretched. "You're a lucky guy if you really think about it. You don't have to see the horrors of most everyday life. The beauty of the world soon turns to ashes and blood. Sad,is it not?" She took out a small object and put it into his hands. It was in the shape of a cross. "Please don't forget me,because I most likely won't forget you." She took out a small buicut wrapped in napkin and tossed it into Dean's mouth as a treat for catching that thief. "I would kill for a dog like that,so make sure he stays well fed. "
The clack of her high-heels were heard down the pavement as it slightly became farther and other foot steps started to enerupt.

Sam was rendered speechless--a rare thing for him when he typically dripped sarcasm like a beehive honey. "Well, I suppose that's something, isn't it?" he murmured. "Except I haven't always been blind. And some things you don't need to see; I'm cursed with an overactive imagination. But thanks, Cross."
He wondered at her name, before feeling the object she had given him. He smiled. A cross from Cross. "I won't forget," he murmured, hearing her walk away.
He scowled down at Dean. "Alright, Dean, forward! Let's try to make it to the supermarket without catching more criminals, okay?"

Cross happened to be going to the market and was already there by then. She attracted attention by many men and was slightly getting harassed by them. Some tried to hold her down but she was quick at fighting and merely kicked them till they screamed. Her fighting spree stopped because of a stronger male holding her down. she screamed while everyone just watched.
The scream caught his attention just as his dog leaped forward. "Dean! No! Stop!" He didn't let go this time; instead he was propelled at a run, trying not to trip as his dog ran full out.
He heard Dean snarl as the dog entered the fray with Sam at his side. But the collapsible cane that hung at Sam's side in emergencies was not going to be a help. It would collapse the moment it struck something.
He still grabbed for it, unsure of what was going on, hoping he wasn't about to get pounded to bits. Or shot. Or stabbed. Or any number of things. "Whatever's going on--please, let's just act like civil human beings!"

A male let her go and she ran behind Sam and cried on his back. She dug through her pockets and took a whistle that not even his dog can hear. Only her half wolf half dog could hear. As soon as she did,a dog with a white pelt, busted in and growled, standing next to Dean.
"Hey, hey, are you hurt?" He asked, when he felt her behind him. There were times when he hated being blind, like right now when he was stuck between a gang of men and their target with his guide dog bristling beside him.
And then there was a jolt by Dean as something else entered and by golly it sounded louder and meaner than anything Sam had encountered thus far.
"Uh, look, let's get out of here." He turned swiftly and grabbed the girl by...her arm or shoulder depending on how tall she was, and in the same movement, released Dean to snatch his collapsible cane and with a flick, extend it to the four foot reach he was familiar with.

She cried by Sam at what had happened. She was truly a powerful person, but during the day she was worthless. Her head pulled close to his chest.
Sam adjusted his grip, putting his arm around her shoulders and keeping her close, as much to 'protect' her as to avoid tripping over her.
"It'll be alright," he murmured to her, though ironically it was quite literally a case of the blind leading the...er helpless? attacked?
At any rate he knew a safezone nearby and proceeded to direct her there. Dean, hopefully would be trailing along behind them. And about two crossings later, they reached a quieter sidewalk where two people could hear themselves think as well as talk, and here Sam stopped. He fit his hand through the loop on the cane before resting both hands on the girl's shoulders.
"Cross, right? Did they hurt you?"
