Hey guys. I'm looking for more faces to participate in a RP based on the now older Nintendo DS game, Dragon Quest 9. It does help to be familiar with the game, but it's not required to participate. The game itself came to the U.S. back in 2010, so I don't expect a lot of people to still play it, or even be interested, but I absolutely LOVE the customization options available in the game. If you like the game as well or are just interested in joining and making a good story, please reply here or send me a PM.
If you're curious, I do have a group started for this, so please feel free to check it out too. Dragon Quest IX
Oh!! One more thing I gotta add!! I also love the process of scouting monster allies and training them to be stronger than any other wild monster in the world. So do ask about what I'm going to call... Monster Coins.
Inspired by... Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
I also have a startup idea to get the ball rolling for a private 1x1 RP, again inspired from the games above. Send me a PM if you're interested.
Patty leans onto the counter flirtatiously, waving to you and giving you a playful wink.
"Hey Sweetie. Welcome to Patty's Party Planning Counter, the place to be to hook up with new party members. So, what do you say we get started with you filling out a little application for me, sugar? That way if someone else comes looking for a person like you, I can call you up or point them in your direction. Ooh, you're in luck, Hun. We've got a really powerful Mage on standby waiting to go on an adventure. If you're having trouble with a tough enemy, maybe someone like him can be of use to you.
What do you say, sugar? Want me to call him up for you?"
Magic is common.
Renaissance
Combat is woven into the storyline and could come to the forefront if the characters seek it out.
Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

Sevio continues to practice throwing Frizz spells at rocks, as well as working on the potency of his "Right as Rain" and "Focus Pocus" moves. He's almost got a perfect self sustaining strategy down for if he finds a hero-in-training or 2 or more he can party up with and teach them a thing or two.

Oh My God!! Is this the same Sevio from THSV in Furcadia?! It's been ages!! Hey, would I be able to get in on this action?
Admittedly I'm not all that familiar with the topic, but I'd love a chance to RP with an old friend if that really is you, Chief Sevio of Phoenicia.

"Hmm... I could always use a good lackey or two for a quick evening raid. You might as well sign me up. And, uhm, do make sure that they're relatively obedient at the very least, won't you?"
((Hi there! I've noticed your ad quite a few times, and while I'll also admit to not being adept in Dragon Quest as well, I'm very interested in RPing with you! I have at least one more character aside from this feisty little diva that could fit perfectly in this without much tweaking, and if they won't do, then I always have more characters up my sleeve to offer!))

O_O Lilim?! The same Lilim Doll of my own home village of Phoenicia?!
Sure enough! Elesa's page and everything! It's great to hear from you again my friend!
And I'm guessing Raven is a friend of yours? Welcome, both of you.
And you too Michael. It's great to see my idea finally attracting attention. That in itself is a victory.
I'd be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have about Dragon Quest and fill you in on anything you want to know. First of which being the class system of Dragon Quest 9. Michael, for example. An Elven Archer to the Dragon Quest universe would translate best into a Ranger class, adept at using Bows. A good choice of weapon indeed, with access to powerful skills like Cheron's Arrow, which restores lost MP depending on damage cast, the multi-hitting skill, Rain of Pain, and the devastating Ultimate Bow skill, Shining Shot, capable of showering all enemies in battle in arrows of light.

((Oh, okay! Can you tell me more about the Ranger Class then? Do I have to make a specialized inventory and moveset according to the game and its system, or can I improvise while keeping as close to a basic inventory and set of skills seen in any RPG? And when it comes to the item and the skills that you've listed off, are those a late-game item and skillset, or is it possible to add at least one of those to Micheal's skills from the start?
If I am starting from scratch and improvising skill sets, are there any particular restrictions to the Ranger Class that I need to know about? (Ex. They can't use magic/a particular type of magic, etc.) And if I'm going by the game, do you have a list of skills and ranger-specific items from Dragon Quest that I can refer to? (I can always google it, but it's always safe to ask before I do so.)
And of course, where and when do we start this off? In a forum, or do we take this to PM? Or are we waiting for more players?))

Rangers can use magic mostly related to healing, curing, and buffing defenses. Spell-wise, they're not very offensive, but they make up for that with being very versatile experts at survival in the field. Honestly you wouldn't have to change your character much at all, just allow for skill translation and you'll be good to go. And the scenario I've got in mind will allow you to have all available Bow skills as well as the Ranger's class exclusive bonuses in "Ruggedness".
Bow skills are as follows:
Conjury Conductor: Makes an enemy more vulnerable to spell damage if it works.
Flutter Disaster: Deals heavier damage to bird related foes.
Needle Shot: Deals almost no damage on its own, but has a chance of instantly defeating a target.
Rain of Pain: Fires 4 arrows that hit multiple targets at once.
Hallowed Arrow: Deals damage and restores MP equal to 1/3rd the damage inflicted.
Shining Shot: Usable only while holding the tome, Archery for the Adept. Showers all foes in arrows made of magic energy. Hits like a Mortar.
Ruggedness skills are as follows:
Soothe Sayer: calms an enemies anger and quails agroed enemies, making them less likely to attack an agroed target.
Mercy: Shows compassion to foes and gives them a chance to escape from battle with their lives.
Vanish: employs magic energy to blend the user seamlessly into the background, making them less likely to be attacked.
Outside of battle, this skill can be used to hide the user and allies presence from monsters, reducing the chance of battle.
Mist Me: Summons a perplexing fog that absorbs one attack dealt to the user before dissipating.Wolf Whistle: Summons a pair of wolves to attack an enemy. Hits 2 times and targets random foes in battle.
Stats for all of this are applicable, but not necessary. And while not all skills may seem useful or some may seem outside the characteristics of the character in question, just having them for emergencies could be a life saver. All of these skills and more can be found on wiki's dedicated to DQ9, but hopefully this brief summary answers your question about the skills and items exclusively learned by the Ranger class.

I dont know anything about this video game except the unexplanitory messages I received from a person who no longer calls me a friend- can I JOIN anyways? I'll tell you straight up I'm not buying the game or any of it's predecessors just so I can understand what is going on.
Neat trick with the invisible text. Almost didn't see a need to reply.
Of course anyone is welcome to join and I am willing to answer questions about the scenario. Though... If I need to dial back my replies to make them easier to understand, please tell me. I don't like treating people like they need babysitting so I may not "dumb down" my responses enough sometimes. If you'll forgive the saying.
I don't know why the text was invisible.
Just because I want to know a few things I have some questions;
1- Are we playing out our own scenario or are we doing one of the quest lines from the game?
2- Are we required to have our characters be altered to fit the characters in the game?
3- Are we required to use the spells and their names from in the game?
4- Are we allowed to be characters and life forms that are not from your game with spells and classes that are not in the game?
Also- Hi Lilim; lovely seeing you again darling. I do so miss little Elesa and you.

1.) We'll be playing out our own fresh scenario that would take place in the post game. Skillsets and content are to be considered Lv.40+ if you want to think of it from a statistic point of view.
2.) I'd prefer it if all involved characters were human or some variable humanoid type. Ears, tails, horns, etc. are debatable and I'm honestly not quite so strict about the alterations. Like Michael. He can still call himself a woodland variety Elf for the RP, I have no problem with that. Raven could still call herself a witch if she wants, I have no problem with that. Lilim could call herself a Succubus, there are abilities that could make her magic armor legit in the Dragon Quest world. But instead of absorbing Elemental skills, she'd have to reduce the effect and say she's only immune to damaging spells and her magic armor is a natural reflector that bounces the spells away. My argument there is to keep things fair and fun. Is that so wrong?
3.) I would prefer it if the spell names from the game were used. And I will be limiting myself to the spells a Mage in DQ9 would know, and that would put me at a disadvantage if someone tried to use a spell from a different franchise that has no translated variant in the Dragon Quest franchise. If you need a list of all acceptable spell names and their types, I'd be happy to provide a list or point you in the direction of a Wiki that has all that.
4.) Obviously the characters themselves would be "Original Content". I am not expecting anyone to try to be an existing character within the franchise and would honestly prefer it if no one tried to play any of the premade characters.
Original Creativity is encouraged!!!

All right, that actually does help a lot in terms of skill set! Now the only questions I have left are:
1.) Is there a limit to how many skills you can own, just to make things a little more balanced? Or is it safe to say we can go all out on this one in terms of top-level skills?
2.) Skillsets are out of the way for me, but what about items and weapons? Can we customize our own item inventories, or do we have to stick to the DQ9 item logs? And how many items are we allowed in our total inventory?
3.) When it comes to the scenario, can you give us a quick summary on what you have planned? I know the party planning thing is where we start... But after that, where do you want this to lead? Or are we winging it as we go along?
Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but I don't want to slow anyone down just because I got something vital wrong off the bat.
