What are some common trends you use when building up your characters? Do your characters follow a sort of pattern or share any traits with each other?

I've noticed nearly all of my modern setting characters happen to be from Kansas, mostly from Wichita, Salina, or Kansas City. The ironic thing is, I've never actually been to Salina. All of non-human characters have been demons so far and each are capable of transforming into an animal of some kind. While nearly all of my fantasy setting characters are the common mercenary type that generally wield swords.

My characters (especially my female ones) tend to be extremely sweet and tough haha... even the snappy half-dragon and cruel scientist are just total sweethearts once you get them to open up. I also used to have a trend of having redheads, but I think I've gotten over that haha. They also tend to wear comfortable clothes... I guess they get that from me liking comfortable clothes haha
I almost only play girls or monsters. Sometimes the monster or the girl is metaphorical, but it's a monster or a girl nonetheless.
A lot of my characters have something about an animal (Vresk is a lizard, Ezmelik is a dragon, Angelic is a dove, Silifrey is a raven, Faiza is a cat, another character is a ram, or a spider, or a snake, or a peacock, or a squid...). They generally don't turn into their animal, sometimes they just have physical features (feathers for Angelic and Silifrey) but other times they have a quirk or a piece of mind looking like their totem (Ezmelik is miser and greedy, Silifrey is neophobe and paranoid). The only character who don't have a totem animal that comes to my mind is the Duke.
A good example of those trends is Sabelaïd, she is sort of a tiefling. She is a daughter of war and can melt metal only by touching it. She is also inhumanly tough, strong and agile. Even if she is a female character, she isn't a girl, she is a monster. Her animal is a ram, not only because of her twisted horns and hideous eyes, but also because she is extremely aggresive and quite libidinous.

Another thing is that a lot of my characters are mirrored. You see Sabelaïd ? She is the exact opposite of another demonic character I had, a male character being a girl and not a monster, who's totem is a peacock. Vresk is Ezmelik's mirror, Angelic and Silifrey are the two edges of the same blade. It must be simply because when I create a character, I love to break my own molds and...well, I knowingly do the exact opposite of one of my characters.

Scarrrrrs.
I have way too many pretty men with long hair and I need to be stopped
Kyce

Beauty or unholy hideousness XD very little inbetweens in all my characters.
Archers.. I gravitate towards archers for whatever reason...
My characters are too beautiful and not nearly flawed enough
... I basically just play Stell.
Overweight, middle-aged alien lady.
Basically anything I play is just another version of her.
Because I am weird.
I always play males. Females are just really hard for me to do correctly for some reason? I have one female but go figure she never gets played LOL
And all of mine generally have a hella traumatic past. Because angst is my jam.
Going further on what Moki is saying.

I cannot for the life of me play females. It makes my head hurt.

Feelsy characters are a huge thing for me to. Feel first then think? That's the OPPOSITE of what I do. So playing characters like that is a huge huge challenge for me. Because I ALWAYS think first, then feel. RIP me.

As far as females, why does it make my head hurt you ask, you're a female.

Well...here's why, Ladies.

I think like a dude.

It's so true, you know Dean Winchester from Supernatural? Yes I know, a dude.

We have too many similarities. I've caught myself saying some of the stuff he does at the same time in the episodes.

House? Same thing.

So clearly, I really do think like a dude.

Thus why you hardly, ever see me playing female characters.
I think that the majority of my characters are nice. Yeah.... I dunno. I try to do diversity, but sometimes it's hard ^^; Oh! About half are red heads, and they're all white XD

I, too, have the vast majority of my characters as having had a rough past.
All of my characters know each other and are from the same original universe I made for them. Don't get me wrong, I have a character or two that are not part of that universe, but... I don't play one, and the other I don't even have a profile for yet.

Also, dark skinned/ethnic folks. At least half of my roster has dark/tanned skin or have some ethnicity to them. ...And happy-go-lucky and/or child-like acting ladies with a dark side or serious nature. I have a penchant for playing those often. <3
Shapeshifters (or those with a talent for acting) and wanderers.
Horror is always somehow involved.
I like beefy baes and quiet ladies.
They are all elves from the Forgotten Realms setting, they all have some of my strengths and weaknesses, or some of my quirks.
Most of my OCs here are either drifters or mercs. Useful for open-world/high fantasy settings.

Also, I have as many female characters as I do males, but nobody wants to roleplay with them, which is just a general RP trend I've noticed.
My characters tend to to start out as almost pure tropes: The Dork, The Blind Oracle, The Hippie, The Tinkerer, etc. They start off as supporting characters that I enjoy using to help build other people's characters, and over time I find that they become intricate people in their own right and it's a really fun process.
Tails. I freaking love tails, IDK why, so it's not unusual for me to make a non human oc and slap a tail on them. Also tend to give my characters pointed or large floppy ears. I also throw vests and Jackets onto a lot of characters. Said Jackets and vests are always long coats, or only cover half of the torso, on men and women. Also give a lot of my female characters chokers. Been trying to get out of doing that so much lately though.

Most of my characters are also good guys. Some more cynical or violent than others, but most are ultimately good guys. And if they aren't a good guy they're incredibly pragmatic or logical and frequently do good because it's the logical choice to go by, or it benefits them somehow.

Most of my characters are also not human, or if they are, they have some fancy cybernetic enhancements, magic abilities, or are genetic mutants.
