"Your luck to have Chris then... Im simply alone. Everyone knows of my Father, owning most of the town and their parents work places... They know I have no cell phone to talk to them or socialize after our classes." Azley closed her eyes and laid back in his seat. Wondering about this cars friend. Even a car had a better life than her. "But I guess Im well use to it now."

Clutch beeped his horn and jostled the seat some. "That's no way to deal with something like that! No human was meant to be alone--that's why robots were created to begin with; and even artificial intelligence designed so that man had something to compete with."

Clutch fell silent for a moment. "You should meet Chris. I think you two could become friends." Assuming of course that she wasn't turned off by Chris's crazy intellectual mind or his penchant for getting oil all over himself.

But that still wouldn't help Azley's social life. "Tell you what," he said, "how about this; I can pick you up after school and take you somewhere to meet your friends. You don't need a cell phone--just tell them at school when and where and I'll get you there."

"Did you not hear me... I have no friends. They think Im weird cause I do nothing." Azley sat up a bit, feeling like she could easily tell Clutch anything. He was good company. Normally when she left on that one night, she walked around and hit up a nice place to eat... alone. Tonight she had no intention of being taken to a drag race with a smart car, but was enjoying it. And she felt the need to meet this Chris too

Clutch revved his engine some. "Well tomorrow, or whenever you go back to school, you tell them you went out and had the best time ever. Don't say exactly what you did, but give 'em hints to show you were out, and then let them beg for details."

Oh Clutch did have a mean streak. Or a programmed one at least. After a moment, he added: "They just need to know that you're not the type who wants to stay home studying all the time." It was something he was familiar with Chris complaining about.

"I rather not. It makes me feel like I cant breath if I am around to many of then at once. Its not my thing, and now will never be. Im to use to what I know." Azley felt herself nodding off, her eyes drifting shut.

Clutch sprayed his washer fluid at the window, his wipers scraping over the surface to smear the liquid around on his screen. When he finished, the window was spotless.

"Well, I'm not saying you should surround yourself with people. But you shouldn't be all alone either." Internally he was processing the time and whether Chris would be up, let alone willing to meet someone at such a strange hour of the afternoon/evening.

"Chris, my personal mechanic, is probably still at the shop, if you're interested in meeting him." Clutch offered--the race forgotten.

"I dont mind..." She said as her eyes fluttered shut. She thought about the man Chris and how smart he must be. Making such a car as Clutch. It was a big deal and a great invention. Azley would die to have Clutch as her car, she could talk to him like a normal person after all.

Well, with that settled, Clutch revved his engine and shifted up a couple of gears to streak for the garage. He hoped he would be in time; Chris tended to hold strange hours these days with all the different parts and such that people were dropping off. Apparently, being an AI Repairman was a much better job for Chris, who at sixteen years old, was much more the authority on such things than the men who had designed the AI concept in the first place.

They screeched into the driveway, just as the main garage door began to lower. Clutch, never one to be less than dramatic, blared his horn as he approached. The garage door froze in mid-lowering, only to raise again and Clutch flashed his lights. They'd made it just in time!

And if Azley woke up and looked out the window, she'd see a young man, sixteen years old, with brown eyes and brown hair, wearing a mechanic's jumpsuit of dark grey splattered with oil and grease, peering out of the garage.

She was still groggy and just getting up. The light from the garage beaming to her eyes, making her blink. "W-Where are we Clutch?" She said softly, rubbing at her eyes.

Clutch chortled happily to himself. "We are at The Sanders' Garage. More importantly, where I spend my nights cooped up in a warm garage with a mechanic who likes to tinker with my AI system. If you look out the right side, you will see Chris, my personal mechanic-in-training, coming towards us."

Sure enough Clutch's sensors beeped as Chris came close enough to peer through the window and saw someone in the front seat of the car.

A small groan escaped him. "Clutch! Please tell me you did not kidnap another random civilian for fun!" Chris quickly reached for the door. "I'm so sorry, he's usually a well-behaved car but I'm afraid the latest upgrade I gave him has introduced more bugs to his system."

Clutch's wipers scraped over the windshield. "Don't delude yourself, Chris. Your software has no bugs in it."

Azley blushed a bit. "I came with Clutch willingly to be honest. I guess I shouldnt get into strange cars with no drives that I didn't know existed." Azley said softly as she opened the door, still sitting inside.
