Zalia was finally sick of being alone. She had to talk to him, or else things would never get resolved. She went to his bedroom and knocked loudly on the door. "Bade...please come out. We need to talk..."
She couldn't stand the state of limbo that they were in. She felt like she didn't know anything anymore. "I know you probably don't want to...but we really need to talk..."

He felt his heart sink into his stomach when he heard her voice. She could probably guess what had happened last night. The boy told his father about the attack, while he had missed her little role as doctor for the others. Evangeline had added her story too of how she was attacked when paying a visit to her favorite brother. The story had worked against Zalia before Bade could even get involved. The pack was talking over a witch hunt it seemed and it did not matter what the wolf had to tell them in defense of Zalia's character.
He stood up and turned the water off. He paused for a long moment, water dripping off him, hand still on the faucet. He hesitated so long he thought she might knock again. His arms fell away from the water spout and he wrapped a towel around his waste poorly before letting the door swing open.

Zalia looked up at him when he opened the door. "They're coming after me, aren't they?" she asked quietly. She'd hurt them, after all. "Bade..." She looked down, her eyes already brimming with tears that she struggled to keep under control.
"I'm sorry. I should leave. I don't want to let Evangeline win, but if I stay here any longer it will just cause you more trouble. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have let her goad me into falling in her trap. I just...I wanted to protect you. I should have realized that you can protect yourself.."
She had never felt so much pain before. "So...I'm going to leave. Thank you. For giving me somewhere to stay and for accepting me. And thank you for caring for me..." The only person she ever loved, and she had to leave him because of her own mistake. Zalia had never hated herself so much before.

He was entirely still throughout her speech, save the rolling droplets of water creating the puddle at his feet. He let her speak while his mind processed her words, slowly. He thought perhaps he could run away with her. Or hide her away. But that would be unfair to her...
Then, with the feeling of cold liquid streaming down his spine he realized the was right. It was the only way to call off the hunt. The pack was still divided between those worry warts, the ones who didn't believe the younger wolves' stories and those who just wanted to fight. He felt defeat sharply.
Leaning forward, he pulled the girl into his chest and hugged her with all her might.

**She was right
Zalia burst into tears and held onto him when he hugged her. She clung to him and sobbed. Never had she felt so alone. Felt so much pain. She held onto him like she never wanted to let him go. And she didn't. She didn't want to let go and she didn't want to leave him.
"Please tell me something before I go." she whispered. "Where does your father live?"
She was going to see him. She was resigned to the fact that she would be forced to leave, but she still wanted to talk to Bade's father. Zalia reluctantly pulled away from him and kissed him. A long, loving kiss because she knew she would never kiss him again. This was their last moment together.
"I love you."

He wrote down the address for her in silence. He met her kiss passionately and wished it would never end, but he knew better. Still in his towel, he walked her to the door and opened it for her. As she exited he told her he loved her as well and watched her walk away.
Zalia went right for the address. She was five minutes out the door and she had never felt so alone. She went up to the door of the address and knocked.
Her heart was racing. It could very well be the end of her right here. But a thin girl wearing a sling didn't exactly look threatening. Still...she knew things wouldn't end well no matter what.
She stood at the door and waited.

The wait was long. She could here movement inside the house as if more than a few people had been gathering. The shuffling had decreased by the time someone walked to the door. The man who opened it had peaked through the glass window at it's side before doing so. He was a stiff sort of man, like he could have been in some sort of naval corps or the army. His hair was short and neatly combed back and it was a sort of blond-red with gray at the temples. He sported a thick mustache which was carefully crafted to be the only facial hair allowed to grow. His demeanor was sour when he saw who was on his steps.
"Can I help you, miss?"
"Can I help you, miss?"
Zalia took in a shaky breath as the door finally opened. "I would like to speak with Bade's father." Her heart was racing so fast she felt an aching in her chest.
"Please. It's very important."
If there was any chance at all that she could stay with Bade, she wanted to at least try it. Even if it meant going and talking to the head of the very pack that now hated her. Her heart was breaking at the thought of having to leave Bade forever. She knew she would never find someone else like him.

The man stiffened and replanted his feet a shoulder with apart. His chest puffed in agitation as his arms laced over them in a truly frightening display of how big he could be. He wore simple clothing consisting of a button down shirt and khaki business pants. His gray eyes were hard as they looked her over.
"Speaking."
"Speaking."
Zalia had assumed so, but the confirmation almost made her shiver. "My name is Zalia. You probably already know this." She glanced around. "I...don't think here is a good place to discuss what I came to talk to you about." They were outside, after all. Or at least, she was.
"It's about your son. And...your 'family'." She was having a hard time looking him in the eyes. And she was having a hard time not panicking. Fathers. She didn't do well with fathers, because her own had been so terrible to her. The only thing that kept her from having a breakdown was the fact that if she screwed this up, she would lose Bade forever.

"You're right. Come in." His way of speaking was short and stern, like a man who was sure of himself in every way. He moved out of the doorway just enough for her to slip in. He shut it behind her and motioned for her to enter the home and take a seat on the couch. There was no sign of other people, but she could be sure she had heard them earlier.
Mr. Ulf sat himself across from her in a stiff-backed chair, hands in his lap. "Go ahead."

Zalia walked in, feeling like she was entering the lion's den. She sat down on the couch and tried to get herself together. She was terrified. "Please...just listen what I have to say. I'll answer any questions you have, after I am done talking."
She took in a deep breath, fingers rubbing against the charm on her bracelet, and then spoke. She told him everything. A summary of how she and Bade met, how kind he was to let her stay with him. She told him of what Bade had told her about Eve. She told him of their trip to the clearing, her fall from the tree, and that night at the hospital with the phone conversation with Eve.
She told him of Eve's appearance at Bade's apartment and how she felt liek Bade had been captured or something. She recounted everything she could remember about the night, following Eve to the clearing and then seeing the group attack Bade. Thinking Bade was in danger and rushing to help him even though she was injured.
Then her determination not to let Eve win in the struggle to get her out of Bade's life, and how she went back to help patch up the injured wolf, and how she apologized.
Finally, she ended her tale. "I fell right into her trap. I hurt innocent people, Bade's own family in a way. I've never felt more misreable. I know...your pack, or at least maybe part of them, were planning on coming to get me. I wanted to leave before I caused Bade any more trouble. But..."
She couldn't stop the tears from pricking at her eyes any longer. "I love him. I can't just leave him. If there was even the tiniest chance that I would be able to stay with him, I would take it. That's why I'm here, talking to you, when I know you could easily put an end to me if you wanted. Because this is my last hope of staying with Bade."
She rubbed at her eyes, sniffling softly. She had tried so hard not to cry. But the thought that he would still deny her, that all of this was futile...It upset her. She wanted to go back to Bade's warm arms. His kind smile.

He listened to her story with mild interest, as if he had heard it all before. Which, in fact he had from more than one other perspective. First his daughter, then a few of the frightened others. He had been brought up to date on her happenings and her lineage by Eve and he was in fact unsure of how to proceed just yet. He absorbed the information about this vampiric creature loving his son and his son somehow reciprocating. He was knocked off the normal train of thought as there had never been an outted vampire in his pack's area.
He was silent long after she had finished speaking, his hard eyes unmoving from her face. "We know what you are, young lady. And frankly, we are unsure of what to do with you as of yet. Your fate is to be decided by the majority of the pack."

Zalia nodded a little bit. "I know." She rubbed at her eyes a bit more. "I never asked to be this. And...I don't know if it will help my case or not, but I don't kill when I feed. I'm only half of a vampire. I don't have to feed often, and when I do feed I don't need that much."
She looked at him. "If you have any questions about what I am, so you can tell your pack later, I will answer them. If you have questions about anything, I'll answer them."
She fiddled with the bracelet again, fingers rubbing that charm once more. "If I may ask...when is the pack going to decide my fate?.."

He ignored all of her questions and pretty much anything she had to say. While he was the figure head of the pack, he was not the deciding factor and he could not be swayed either way so as not to be biased.
"This evening," he stated bluntly. "And until then, you cannot be allowed to leave." The other foot steps she had heard earlier now reappeared in the form of other pack members, both male and female. They surrounded her and laid their hands on her to drag her off into a holding room.
As she was bound and removed, Eve stepped in behind her father with an innocent smile on her lips which was betrayed by the glint in her eye.

Zalia listened to him and gave a nod. "Alright. Then I'll just-" And suddenly she was surrounded. It was like a nightmare. She didn't fight though, and she didn't even look at Eve. She let them bind her and take her to the holding room where she would stay quietly until they were ready to make their decision.
Quiet on the outside perhaps, but inside she was in turmoil. Memories from her past, from her time living with her father, flooded into her brain. Nightmares of her past mixed with horrible possibilities of her future broke her heart over and over to the point of so much pain that she was hurting too much to even cry.
Her only comfort was the feel of the bracelet on her wrist. The reminder of who she was surviving for.

There was a soft click in the darkness of her cell to indicate that someone had come in. They were carrying a tray of food, meager amounts, but enough for an accused person. Laying it down on the floor before Zalia, the figure circled her. A hand played with her hair ever so gently as they passed.
The person stopped behind her after her second circle and suddenly wrenched her hair in their fist.
"Nice try playing innocent to Daddy." Eve's cruel voice shot through the dark like a weapon.

Zalia let out a soft cry as her hair was wrenched. She stayed quiet, not saying a word. She blocked out Eve's voice, focusing and trying to think about Bade. She wouldn't stoop to Eve's level and play her game.
Zalia had learned early on that it was best to stay quiet than try to fight back, verbally or physically. She tried to concentrate on the bracelet. She had to relax.
