Thea shielded her eyes against the blazing midday sun, looking towards the small, ramshackle settlement in the distance. Few of the people here chose to live in such large groups. It was easier to live alone, or in smaller groups, ready to pick up and move at moment's notice--easier for both the predators and the prey alike. Normally, Thea wouldn't go near someone else's settlement. She'd learned that lesson the hard way in the year that she'd been here. But now she needed information and, possibly, help. She reached into her pocket to feel the ragged piece of paper given to her by an injured man, apparently dropped off on Khaaris by the same pirates that had killed her husband and daughter. Supposedly killed her daughter. The man had told her otherwise.
She had done her best to treat his wounds, but in his search for her, he had run afoul of a glynnysarl--one of the poisonous predators of Khaaris. He had died two days after falling on the doorstep of the cave that had been serving as her home. It had taken her three days after that to decide that she had to see if it was true, one way or another. She'd packed up what belongings she'd come across in her time here and wandered off in the direction of what passed as civilization on this God-forsaken planet.
Hopefully, someone there might be kind enough--or at least sane enough--to help her get off of Khaaris and rescue her daughter. She knew she wasn't the only one looking to leave this place.
