Looking over the streets of Manhattan, she watched the night life go by. I can never understand where they would want to be going. Her talons dig into the concrete walls. Her rookery sister was off with Goliath, Elesa, and Bronx. She had no clan of her own....she was in new territory....and she had no idea how to live in such a busy city. Spreading her wings out, she freefalls down until the wind currents caught her. Gliding through the city, she flies through the city wondering if there were others of her kind somewhere in the city

Cautiously prowling out of the abandoned apartment building he called home, Topaz pulled down the large hood of his cape. It had become second nature for him to hide his face, though this was the first time in months he had forgotten to obscure his face before setting foot outside. If someone had been near, they might have noticed that he was something different… Something obviously not human. And yet, he had been raised among humans for as long as he could remember. Perhaps that was not totally true, considering that the only human he had spent any real time around was the man he called father; Joseph.
‘I have to find him.’ Topaz thought to himself feeling powerless as a lightning storm gathered in the sky over the metropolis known as Manhattan. Joseph hadn’t returned home for an entire night, a chill ran down Topaz’s spine. His father was a blind, elderly man that had opened his heart and home to him. Although he had so little to give, he had raised Topaz like his own son, never questioning or reaching out to feel what his “son’s” face looked like. 'If he ever did… Would he reject me, after all this time?’ Topaz couldn’t shake the insecure thoughts from his mind as he ran swiftly through the back alleys in search of his adopted father.
Suddenly he noticed some small pieces of rubble fall down from a tall building far above where he was running and stopped. When he focused his sharp eyes upward he saw what appeared to be someone climbing a building, someone with wings and a tail just like he had. ‘Well, today is full of surprises…Am I seeing things?’ He was transfixed as he watched the being scale the building when suddenly there was a thunderclap and rain began to pour.

Gliding above the city streets, she noticed a hooded figure on the ground. Noticing the hidden wings in the folds of the hooded cloak, she lands and clings to a building. Is that another gargoyle? If so...they are the first that I have seen in this huge village of stone.... Her tail sways as she studied the figure.
Oddly not afraid of the fellow winged being that approached him, Topaz asked “Who are you?” Immediately wondering why he hadn’t inquired ‘What are you?’ his eyes met the other creatures. Two things immediately occurred to Topaz, this creature was feminine; her eyes were a striking shade of crimson red, and she was undeniably not human… Just like him.
She jumps down to his level and stood up. "I am known as Davina....I am a gargoyle...just like you." Wrapping her wings over her shoulders and clasped against her upper chest, she looks at him. "Who are you? Do you have a clan?"
Feeling a bit intimidated at her introduction, Topaz staggered back a little, unsure if he should answer her questions or run. “A clan?” He repeated the phrase, tilting his head in confusion under the hood of his cloak. He had come across that word before in several of the history books which he had plucked from the dumpsters behind various old bookshops. ‘Clan…’ He held the word in his mind in contemplation, it meant family didn’t it? He finally decided to answer her, still not wanting to tell her his name. “I - I’m currently looking for my clan. He has not returned and may be in danger…”
"What does he look like? Any specific color...or body markings?" She tilts her head a little wondering why another gargoyle would leave their clan member alone. She and her rookery brothers and sisters alway flew with another during patrols.
“Well.. He’s a human. Not a…” Topaz’s voice flattered awkwardly as she tried to figure out what he was trying to say, then just decided to be blunt about it. “He’s not like us… What are we exactly?” Curiosity and a bit of hesitation filled him with apprehensive thoughts. He wasn’t sure if he wanted a confirmation that he was a monster, deep down he had always suspected that there was something beastly about himself.
Taking his hand in hers, she looks at him. "We are gargoyles....protectors of the weak..and the guardians of the night."
