I've been role-playing since I was really young, starting with tabletop and then moving into chat rooms when I first found the internet. The idea of multiple people working together to weave a story always intrigued me, sometimes it did not work out too well, but when it did it was really fun.
While I was in IRC (Internet Relay Chat) I went through a short phase of elitism, I say short but it was like a few years, with some friends of mine. We sat in a channel and judged the shortcomings of others and the horrible spelling and grammar they were using. I came to a realization though, they were at least actually writing at the time and playing, while I was too busy judging others to be doing anything myself.
So my elitist phase is long behind me, I just like to write and want to write with others and hopefully inspire myself to keep working on some of my novels in the process.
As far as my likes go in RP, I usually prefer medieval-fantasy, but I've come to enjoy modern and science fiction quite a bit as well. Really as long as it sounds interesting and the story catches me, I don't care what time, era, or genre it's from. I can play combat and often did play out grandiose battles in IRC, so if the situation calls for it and it's fun I'll do it, but constant combat with little else is definitely not my thing. Fighting can obviously be part of a story, but it should be that, only part of it.
Anyway, that's my introduction. Anything else you want to know, just ask.

Ohhh you're giving me flashbacks. The first RP I ever became involved in was one based on the Matrix back in my IRC days.

Glad to see this is an active place and that so many are welcoming, thank you to you all.
I think my first IRC RP was back in the late 90s, it was actually a Shadowrun game that some people I knew were running. Was a nice segue into the online RP world for me since it was almost like playing a tabletop game, except with people in different parts of the world.
My writing around then kind of fit with my elitist tendencies as I was in my "everything must be phrased poetically" phase. Since I've spent years focusing more on writing novels now though I left that behind a long time ago.

Welcome! I'll admit, I still struggle with the 'elitist' thing sometimes. Grammar and spelling irks me to a degree that I find it hard to RP with people who don't have it 100% down... A very hard habit to break, unfortunately.

Shadowrun, eh? Good taste! I got into it a few years ago myself via the PC games and I was surprised to find just how well the cyberpunk and traditional fantasy elements harmonized.
It's always heartening to hear people moving past grammar elitism. It's important to remember that some people's mistakes might be due to having a different native language, and they might still have amazing ideas to share!
