How does everybody handle ships with their characters? Do you tend to create both halves of the ship or ship with someone else?
From my experiences, creating both halves yourself seems to be the easiest. Leo used to have the short end of the stick when it came to romance. His twin sister was paired with a canon character from Fire Emblem, but there were no canons that clicked with him enough. And nobody in an RP really clicked with him either. I ended up having to create his soulmate myself. They have one son.
Merc will father twin daughters when he's old enough. I've been wanting to ship him for a long time, hoping to let him fall for someone else's OC because it just sounds so much fun to ship with someone else. It sounds fun, but also a lot of work and stress. I'd have to keep in contact with the other creator, and then we'd have to agree on offspring for the pair. Either creator can just drop out at any time without warning. I wouldn't do that myself, but yeah. I have an option for him that I also created, a girl who appeared in his story briefly when he was 5, but I still kinda want to ship with another creator.
Talk about your shipping experiences.

Ah, the allmighty subject of ships. Actually, with me it's a mixed bag, because my characters are part of their own story. Canonically, my two main ladies have an open relationship with each other and someone else's character, and my main male is in the same boat with another character I have. One more character I own is actually the full result of being shipped with someone else's characters alone!
I love shipping some of my characters with other characters that people have, and of course I can't stop people from thinking and making speculations of their own ships if they involve my OCs (of course, I always gotta draw the line at forced ships, you know?) But yeah, from time to time, I discover that one character is better off with another one I have.
Ultimately, it depends on the character and their dynamic and goals, (and if they even want a relationship) and I just plan accordingly. I hope that makes some sort of sense.

I actually don't ship all that much myself. Out of the 25 character profiles I have, only three of them(One of which is for two characters) actually have any kind of romantic relationship. Part of this is because I tend to make headworlds for a specific character, and not every character that fits into their genres would work in their headworlds. Though I'm not opposed to co-creating a pair of characters with another rp-partner and building up a world around them.
All of mine are fandom characters. My main thing is, finding a creator who also has OCs for said fandom, and then the relationship has to also work. So yeah.

Oh, now I know where you're coming from! I only have two fandom characters, Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts respectively. I do want to ship with others in Pokemon maybe, but it's so hard finding a person who plays adult trainers at times, I think. Kingdom Hearts is a whole 'nother ball game that I won't get into, but I'd love to ship off my OC there too maybe. My preference with that is trying to stay far away from the canon characters and have relationships develop naturally if they do come into play. So yeah, I'd love to ship with another creator if it comes to that. Otherwise, if I'm really hurting, I'd either pair both of my OCs with their best friends or just not at all since neither of them have really thought about romance. (Sometimes, the best stories don't have a romantic element.)
I've seen a few adult trainers here, actually. But Yuuki looks pretty awesome! Too old for Merc and probably not his type, plus he wouldn't be able to have his kids with her if it did work out. I doubt a MtF transgender can have kids with a guy. I mean, I've heard of FtMs getting pregnant, but not the other way around. I'm sticking him with Ava now. He met her once when they were like 5. Reunion when they're in their late teens, and lets just say hormones are raging lol. They end up with twin girls named Terra and Celeste, then a son named Orion 5 years later. And then they're done and he goes under the snip snip knife, if you know what I mean. Better be safe than sorry. Lol.
...I don't have a single homosexual or trans character. Heck, all my humans were even white before Twila. No profile here, but I can show you her if you want. She's another Pokemon OC. Maybe I should diversify a bit, but idk how well I'd be able to write characters who are that different from me. I can write males no problem, but yeah, LGBT would be a bigger difference than that.

Thank you! And I love your OC too, he really does seem to stand out, especially with his background! Sadly, I have to agree with you: not only is Yuuki too old, but you're not wrong at all on the last bit. She can never have kids; adoption is the closest she'll get to having kids around and she's okay with that. Besides, Yuuki's kind of oblivious to romance unless it hits her in the face head on, so I think she needs someone more straightforward than her anyway, if it ever comes up in RP. However, I'm liking the concept you have for your OC so far in terms of pairing him with Ava.
There's never anything wrong with trying to write about different types of diversity, whether race, gender, or sexuality. However, that's ultimately up to your comfort zone, and if you think you'd like a challenge in playing one! If it makes you feel better, I only had characters with dark skin tones until Yuuki (unofficially, she's more tannish), then Creatia (officially). I also only had just female characters until recently (because males are hard to draw //shot).
But I'd definitely love to check out your Twila sometime!
That's awesome that you said he stands out! I try not to make god awful fankids. I made him as an example for a contest I came up with on a Pokemon forum once, where everybody had to make a kid for a team leader or high ranking person, and I only got one entry so the contest was a failure. But I liked him enough to keep him, and he's evolved, pun completely intended lol.
Twila also happens to be a canon character's kid, but not from two canons. One parent I had to make up. If you have a Deviant Art I'd appreciate a comment on there. Just ignore the rest of the comments with the unnecessary critique. I think I handled it well and it couldve been a lot worse, but yeah.
Here.
Art needs updated. Working on it...also working on new art for Merc so I don't have to use that thing I made in a flash generator thing.

Hey, that's actually pretty neat to know! My Creatia started as a dare from someone to make a new character since I didn't have that many to begin with. She ended up evolving too!
But I do have a dA, and I did leave a comment!
I've looked at Creatia and Maxwell, they both seem pretty well developed and interesting. Interesting that Creatia is actually an alien...futanari? Don't know how else to put it. Man, I could put the kinky sex stuff on my OCs who are legal age, but I'm not brave enough to do it lol. Or I'm not kinky enough. Probably a bit of both xD As for Maxwell, omg poor boy getting visibly aroused all the time. That has to be awkward.
Thanks for the comment on DA!

I actually call her intersex of sorts (as I'm not really sure about using the outdated word "hermaphrodite" to describe her sex), as Creatia's actually not used for that kind of kinky stuff (If anything, she's not all that kinky in the first place). Where she comes from, that's a third sex. And yes, it does get rather awkward for him if it does happen, especially around those he cares about.
No problem! However, this is turning more into an off-topic conversation. I'd love to talk about this more in PMs though, if you like!
I think it really depends on all the circumstances: the character, the creators, the story/roleplay/situation...
All of my characters, with the exception of Rarity and Casablanca, are part of their own stories that I'm writing. I roleplay them on here to internally build them so that I may write their stories from their perspectives better. And so, they each have a canon relationship status/partner, while in roleplay, they stay pretty flexible.
For instance, my character Evan will never be roleplayed in a relationship because I can't see him with anyone other than Amaiya, but Rarity may be roleplayed in numerous different relationships because she's a strictly-for-roleplay character with NO canon relationship and can be applied to numerous situations.
However, if there's a relationship I particularly like, such as my character Melina with a fellow roleplayer's character who was named Deltrix, I'll make it a permanent part of her story as homage to that particular roleplay

I've never had any good experiences with shipping, so I usually make my own ships if I want to have my character in a relationship, but it really depends on the goals of the characters. Some of my characters like one of my ladies, I can see in a ship more than others because they are the quiet, stay at home type. Being a mother is natural for them. They just seem fit to be a wife. Others are more independent and either probably won't want a relationship because it will disrupt that.
On another note, apart from the possibility of writers leaving and the ship ends that way, I find it hard to find a female character that people write in my fandom which are interesting - they are usually bland individuals that only cook, or characters where the writer's goal is to multi-ship and are overly flirtatious, pushy and hit on every male character they come across and have no personality at all. (A lot of them are obviously made to ship with canons that they like but they don't put any effort into developing the character at all.) I also find that a lot of writers make their female character stupid so that they don't know fundamental things that they should and it gets tiresome writing with them.
LGBTQ character shipping doesn't appeal to me at all, so I prefer to either keep a character single, or make both halves of the ship, though if there was a writer who made a character I liked, weren't pushy starting a ship, posted regularly and weren't demanding that I reply all the time, then I'd consider it if they were looking to ship their character.
In the end, though, I think too many people focus on ships too much and need to have fun writing other things.
