Dawn Rivers (played by TheLily)

The space was almost comically small, even to Dawn who was just shy of five foot tall. She slipped in, though, finding a doorway behind the blocker. It was both terrifying and exciting to see it. People might be back there.

Zombie, too. She took a deep breath inhaling the stale air. It din't smell of death, bu who knows how wel it protected.

Opening the door slowly,the girl exected the worst. She slipped in after hearing nothing, findingablanket A sleep would be likeheaven...";
Liam (played anonymously)

It had been 48 hours since Liam had slept, and he was beginning to feel it. He'd been travelling day and night, in search of a city. Cities meant homes, which meant supplies to him.

Liam had spent the last four months in the hills, as far away from the disgusting Zombies that had so thoroughly taken over the once bustling metropolis' of his country. Only 3 years ago, the streets of this large, central city, would have been overflowing with life. Cars jamming up the roadways, children laughing, playing and fighting, and adults hurrying to their respective jobs and appointments.

But that was years ago, now the streets were empty of vehicles, littered with dead bodies, and the city itself had a permeating stench of decay.

Liam wanted desperately to leave this dead city, but it would have to wait.

Dawn walked around the room slowly, brushing her short hair from her eyes. She couldn't see anyone and put the safety on her gun. She didn't know the name of the gun. She didn't know anything other than she was down to two bullets in the clip.

On her belt she wore a machete and a thin chain with a silver pendant on it. Two stakes tied together with a string of garlic. It dangled loose, but it was clearly well taken care of. Her brown eyes flashed this way and that, looking for a nice place to sleep on. Now that she was inside, the place was clearly a church that had seen it's last member off a long time ago.

Was it a Sunday when this mess started? She couldn't remember anymore. It used to be so clear to her, before everything happened. Before her mom and dad and brother were lost to her. She still hoped sometimes that they were alive, but knew it wasn't likely.

Not any more.

She looked over the Virgin statue, seeing the remnants of candles there. She brushed her fingers along the wax, licking her lips. She didn't know the words, because she'd never been taken to a church, but she felt compelled to say something.

"Keep them safe." It was enough.

Liam wandered the city for what seemed like hours, but was likely only a matter of minutes. He needed food, and sleep urgently. At the end of the block, he saw a church, and a convenience store. For the first time ever, he praised the lord. He approached with caution.

Hunger brought Dawn to her senses. Praying did her no good. She stood up on legs, shaky like a colts. As she looked around, she saw another opening. A tall door. It would be dangerous to leave it open, but provided she could get back in and close it up, she would likely be less bothered from that door, rather than the previous portal she entered from.

She strode to the door, covering the distance easily. She undid the first bolt, wondering why a church would not have so much faith. The second bolt came easier, and she slipped out once the door opened. She closed it gently, feeling her eyes adjust to the light.

Food. Maybe candles. That was it. Food. Candles.

she saw the boy, her eyes taking note of him before her brain.

Liam had chosen food before sleep, and thus had approached the small convenience store first. After a small recognizance of the area he determined there were no Zombies near the front, he was safe for the moment. He entered the store, his first goal was a chocolate bar. He'[d just found the Milky Ways, when he noticed a movement in the corner of his eye.

Dawn stopped dead. There were two things she hated. Being alone (oh lord, let Steven not be a zombie!) and uncertainty. She could take zombies, without a doubt. It was like the old predators. It was just a new line of monsters to conquer, the others long gone.

She put her hand to the gun at her hip. Two bullets. She watched the figure intently, trying to see if it was a zombie. A person would be far more valuable than food at this point!

The figure moved, and Liam whipped around, his hand dipping into the left pocket of his jeans and curling around the long switchblade kept there. His heart pounded. As used to combat, and killing as he'd become, he was always frightened when facing one of the undead. They'd got to everyone else, it was only a matter of time before his luck ran out as well.

He inched forward, moving silently, hoping whatever was in there with him, hadn't noticed him. He didn't even consider it could be another human being. He hadn't seen a live person in months.

Dawn turned a corner. Her gun was in front of her, safety off. She took a count as she looked at the person. She could see no visible wounds. That meant nothing though, as the bite could have been a slow fester down on the leg or something.

"Say something." She had a commanding voice, cold. She kept the gun trained on the stranger, still alert to everything around her.

Liam was initially relieved to find that the mass had been a live human being, and not a zombie. Problem was, this live person was holding him at gun point, and making an impossible demand of him. He let the switchblade fall out of his hand, and tried to look as non threatening as possible. He was too far away from her to disarm her before she pulled the trigger, better to try and convey harmlessness.

Dawn watched him drop the blade. Fear wasn't a normal part of zombie psychology. She eyed him carefully, frowning, "You alive? Say something." She was calmer now - he hadn't changed if he was bitten - which might be something amazing! If the change slowed, it might be stoppable.
