I'm doing this on an Anon character because I feel like if I did this on my public account my friends would see it as an attack against them.

I consider myself to be slightly above average skill-wise but whenever I post art I get 0 comments or likes. And I know I should draw things for myself and not for the approval of others but it's hard when I spend 8 or 10 hours on a piece or sometimes more and just get... Nothing.

It's just so frustrating and I don't know what to do.

I feel your pain! What site are you posting it on? It helps to get some good internet friends who you can show art to and they can show you theirs. Because I have one, but other than that, I rarely get comments either.

I mean I think a lot of it depends on how and who you're showing your art to. Like, are you sending them links to your devart account? Do people just not respond if you do that? Or ghost you for a few hours, or something? I hate to say it but if that's the case, it might be a good idea to work on your technique. If you're just literally not getting any attention, don't be afraid to post stuff elsewhere or see if you can sell pre-made characters. Do cheap like, $10/$15 head shot commissions.

tbh It's kind of hard to judge without seeing your art. Sometimes people can be jealous or whatever, so it just depends on who you talk to and all that I guess.

Know who your target audience is, this is why fandom artists are popular, they create content for an existing and large market in constant demand. They know what is relevant to their audiences interests and cater to it.

Even 1% of a large fandom base watching your content would be a huge increase in traffic and conversions - but ultimately, it's what works for you!

Get behind the wheel of your ideal audience: if your site has a tagging system like Tumblr, make sure you're using relevant, well thought out tags.

Your audience needs to be able to find you. Use key words and phrases in your submissions - you'll see good examples of this on sites like deviant art.

Make sure you link to all your relevant content pages: deviantart, art Tumblr, any art threads, social media.

The most important thing - is never give up, positive thinking will always attract positive results. Keep going and do not give up. I promise you will get there, it just takes time 😄

You're definitely not alone! It's natural to want approval and recognition, but I find when I concern myself with numbers on devart or w/e I get distracted and lose focus. The best advice I can offer is to ignore the comment/like count and keep practicing and doing studies; your passion and hard work will translate onto canvas in no time. Gl!

What kind of comments are you looking for? Are you wanting people to give constructive criticism or just be all 'hey that looks cool' ? If you have a tumblr for your art feel free to PM it to me. Thank you for your advice. I'm not the best at art but I am reasonably confident in my skills. I don't think I'm getting embarrassed 'better to say nothing than speak the truth' radio silence.

Totally agree that giving free stuff can be a big boost. Help others out by sharing free resources and they'll give back by circulating your work.

Try getting more involved with the community you're part of in general. Don't sit and wait for people to come to you. Engage with other artists, and start conversations with the people who notice your art. I'm certain I owe most of the commissions I received during my time on dA to the friends I made there. I boosted them and they boosted me.

I'm not an artist, but I've interacted with many artists and I'm a writer that uses DA, so I have the same problem sometimes.
I just want to give a bit of advice that is more of an attitude adjustment than a 'do this to get more views' kind of thing. Maybe, you can start considering things this way; instead of 'nobody notices my art', think 'does anyone have advice on how to get my art "out there"?'
Instead of 'nobody comments so it must not be good', think 'what can I do to engage anyone who views my art and encourage them to comment?'
Try to keep a proactive mindset instead of a negative mindset. You've already told yourself that this 'cry for attention' isn't that good, emphasized by your use of an anon character. I would encourage you to turn away from this negativity and focus on 'let's see what advice my fellow artists can give me' instead.

Obviously, as you have noticed, we can't give you much advice because of your anonymity. All we can give are vague suggestions. I think perhaps a root of your concerns is your own self-confidence in your art. Be true to you! Get your art out there. Post LOTS, request critiques, and interact. Be confident in your art and yourself as an artist, and remember that asking for help is never something to be ashamed of.
Especially in the dA world, interacting with others is the best way to get people to interact with your art. Comment on other peoples' stuff, 'watch' other people, etc! dA is a very strong 'pay it back' community. If you watch someone, they usually watch you too. If you comment on their work, often they'll take time to do the same!
