So there you are, browsing the net, possibly looking for drawing references, when you come across an image made by a complete and total stranger that looks EXACTLY like one of your characters! Ever happened to you? Discuss!
Example: This image was just lineart, found it by googling "anime couple", yes, for art references. But it fit the image in my head of my Merc and his bae Ava perfectly. And I realize I'm a 26 year old who just said bae. What is this world coming to lol. Anyway, I colored it and here it is.
Definitely the best he's ever looked, since my drawing skills still need improvement.
EDIT - There was no original source in sight, I reverse image searched it. Sorry for implying otherwise!

I have pretty decent luck in this department, because I run into this quite often. I think the best one was for my character Vincent. His icon is what I imagined him to be exactly, including the tattoo on the neck. Insane happenstance, but consider myself extremely lucky.
If you use that pic, be sure to ask the owner and also credit their work... It's the pits to find something you drew being used for something completely different.

^ PLEASE DO.
If someone just grabbed my uncolored work and colored it in and called it their character, I would be pretty upset that they didn't ask me first...and would probably do everything in my power to have it taken down.
Someone did this to me on a D&D forum I was not on, just grabbing art of my OC and using it as a portrait for their character, and I sent a copyright claim to that forum and it was taken down.
Don't be that person!
Yes. I did. Countless times.
And this damn thing seriously hurts me. Not only I have found multiple lookalikes of my characters in appearece, but so they did in context as well.
Mad Ranger here has a freaking doppelganger right here on this very forum. An outsider could come and yell at anytime that they are copypastes from each other. Even in context.
Plus, I have this eldritch abomination space naga-dragon thing who's supposed to be some sort of primordial force of the universe.
It appears that a game with a shitty playerbase that barely cares about the characters background do have a copypaste.
Fun fact: I made my own years before that character was even released in this game.
This is the worst crap, seriously. I think I'm going to have a psychic breakdown if someone goes and shouts that I'm art stealing, urgh.

Not an exact lookalike, but there are many that remind me of Toffi
It's his body-type, and if you reeeeally simplify his looks to 'brown, white underside, short dark hair' then there are dozens, perhaps a couple that share that body-type as well
Like I found one today, but I can't really show or share it x2 Already gone that site I visited
But exact lookalikes? Nah
Simple as some of my designs are, there's something different and unique to them, and no-one has a style similar to mine as far as I know of, so nothing really replicates what I make
Oh, but I keep picking things up and going all 'lol, that person looks like human Sergei' and this happens fairly often
Fire Emblem Awakening - Frederick
He gets veeeeery close to human Sergei in his own rights
I guess it just sucks that I can't draw humans so I see those resemblances in many places~

Every now and then, yeah! It always gives me a giggle. I think sometimes it's easy to tap into archetypes, or use the same mental templates for things. It's not surprising -- many of us come from similar cultural backgrounds, and our fiction has had similar trappings and patterns to it.
The truth is there's nothing new under the sun. It's fun to come up against someone who's had and loved the same idea as you have.

When putting Aten together a good year or so ago, I was searching for tiefling tail references when I found this. Wild.
