I'm terrible with introductions and first impressions. I'm brand new to the site and have the beginnings of a character worked out. I've been RPing for going on 17 years, in a wide variety of different worlds and styles. In games, through chat rooms and forums, and pen and paper. Yeah that's right.. I'm old.
I love to write, and read. So RP is clearly something I enjoy quite a bit. I almost always favor a fantasy world, and I like characters with unique abilities. That could be from an upbringing of comics and super heroes, or just a general belief in magic.

A little of both.
I've worked with a lot of different systems. I found that free form, similar to what you were talking about with a journal or the like, passing back and forth, has more room for detail and better over all story. But the systems in something like D&D are almost necessary to avoid simple conflicts about what one character can or cannot do to another. Quantified variables help, but they also feel a little to restricting in some cases.
