Hello!
As you can see, I'm new here to this forum.
Though I've been roleplaying for what seems like forever, and enjoy it very much as a way to get away from RL for a while. If only for a short little while.
But seeing as I'm new to this forum, any friendly tips / advice is most welcome!

BRACE YOURSELF, TIPS INCOMING
When it comes to starting RPs, most people start in the Looking For RP forum to find some other players. There's also a search tool that will help you find what you're looking for within that forum - click "Find RP" in the top menu, then "join game" then scroll to the bottom to adjust your preferences for game types. If you want more info on using that search tool, here's a handy help article.
If you end up joining someone else's RP, they'll let you know the details about how to join in.
If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
By the by, you can use the "launch chat" button at the top and bottom of any forum topic, whether it's in a private group forum or our public RP forums, to turn your topic into a real time chat! There's also a link in the sidebar of private messages that will let you do the same.
However, when it comes to styles and systems, I can't give you a single "this is how it is here!" answer.
Our goal is to provide the general tools so that people can do any kind of RP that they want. I think that's part of what sets us apart from most other RP sites, which are often built to work with a specific system (ex. D&D 3.5) or style (ex. paragraph freeform) or even setting (ex. Harry Potterverse).
We have the flexibility for much more than one type of RP, which is awesome, but also makes it a little harder for us to tell you exactly what will be expected from you in every RP that you join here! But most people will happily tell you their expectations or what they'll need from you if you express an interest in knowing more about a potential RP.
That was probably a lot to read, but if you have other questions or curiosities, there's a couple things you can try. You can always try typing your question into the search box, or you can check the help section. If you can't find it there, everyone here is awesome and friendly. Please don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

If you're starting up your own RP, you have a few choices about how to proceed once you've found a RP partner or two.
- You can just create a RP topic on one of our 3 public RP forums: General Roleplay, Sci-Fi Roleplay and Fantasy RP. Keep in mind that because these areas are public, you'll have to make sure the RP stays in the PG-13ish range.
- You can choose to RP via private messages, and just create a new conversation thread with all your RP partners as recipients. Since this is private, the only rules that tend to apply are not to do OOC illegal things and be nice to your RP partners OOC.
- If you're going to have a whole lot of people in your RP, or the RP setting is going to be very strictly defined and you want to have a place to store world building information alongside it, you might consider starting your own group. This gives you access to profile building tools for the group, but also to creating your very own forums!
- In some cases, you and your RP partner might even decide to use some other messenger or game to RP on.

Hey, welcome to RPR!
Thank you all!
Welcome DarkCloud! I hope Kim's tips are useful to you. I hope you'll settle in quickly.
Welcome to RPR. I'm Asroc. I RP many and mostly Canons, but I am friendly to OC RPers and will RP with them. I do mainly AU RPs as them. Enjoy your time here.
Welcome to RPR! I hope you're having lots of fun here!
Hi, welcome to RPR! Glad to have you!
Since you were looking for advice, I looked at your RP prompt (which is awesomely expressed in terms of what you're looking for, by the way ) and there's one little thing. Now, it may be nothing - I don't usually RP in the forums, so I don't know the exact things one can afford to write there. But all public forum RPs need to be okay-ish for 13-year-olds to stumble upon without causing them trauma So if you're looking to RP some serious gore, and if you prefer forum threads, I'd suggest that you consider setting up a group for your RP(s). It's easy and with appropriate settings, you can RP even the kind of themes that would be against the rules in public forums.
In any case, have fun!
