Sair nodded slightly. "That makes sense." He didn't say anything more, though something did start ringing. Or, playing heavymetal music. He pulled a cellphone from his pocket and looked at it, frowning. He tossed it beside him on the couch and let it ring.
Ariadne looked at his exchange with the phone, with some amount of curiosity. She wondered why he'd been displeased with whomever was calling. Never one to hold her tongue she asked.
"Who is it you don't want to talk to?"
"Who is it you don't want to talk to?"
Sair looked up at her. "My foster parents." He looked out the window. The phone stopped ringing, then started ringing a minute later. He grabbed the phone and opened it, only to turn it off.
So he'd been a foster kid. Perhaps that explained some of his behavioral issues. She'd heard often enough how bad the foster care system was. She wondered if she'd judged him perhaps, a little to rashly to begin with.
Silence reigned again, then he got to his feet and walked over to the window. "They're gone, so I'm heading out. Kill some time, I guess." He waved a hand, walking to the door. "Thanks again." Off he went. He knew he couldn't stay away from home forever, so he was going to hit some bars or something until he felt like going back home.
Ariadne was surprised to find that her house was almost too quiet after he'd left. She continued on her paperwork. She had a feeling this wouldn't be the last time she saw him.
It wasn't. Around suppertime that evening, he knocked on the door. "I'm gonna stay the night again." Again, assuming things. But she knew by now that he wasn't the kind to ask.
Ariadne groaned. "Don't you have friends?" Still she made no move to kick him out. She wondered why. Was she that lonely of a person, that shed invite a likely dangerous criminal into her home, just for some company.
Sair looked at her, speaking honestly. "No." He stepped past her and sat down on the couch again. He grabbed the remote and flipped through the TV, trying to find something good to watch. He finally settled on a random TV show, sighing. It was so boring at her house, but he wasn't going back to his own house.
Ariadne let him suffer in boredom for an hour or so, before she finally gave in to her conscience. If she was already going to let him stay here, she might as well not punish him with cable tv. "There a metric ton of dvds, a PS3, and a Nintendo 64 in the cupboard below the tv.
Sair looked over at her. "Really?" He got up, checking the cupboard. He got out the PS3, some games, and the controller. Then he relaxed in the couch and started playing.
Thirty minutes later her paperwork was done. She got up silently, and made her way to the kitchen to see what she could scrounge up for the two of them. After much consideration, she decided on grilled cheese. She wouldn't have to put much effort into it.
Sair watched her out of the corner of his eye, then looked away. He was incredibly conflicted. He hated it here, but he loved it here. It was peaceful, and nobody was calling him terrible things. But he was with this girl, he was obviously unwanted, and it just felt...weird. Sair sighed. Maybe he'd spend the night in the park after all.
Ariadne felt similarly to the man in her living room. On one hand, it was sort of nice to not be completely alone, but on the other, the man was clearly dangerous... and to be honest, she felt a bit used by his actions. It wasn't as if he was trying to be her friend after all. He'd invited himself into her home because it was convenient for him, not out of any desire for her company.
She finished the sandwiches, and plated them. Returning to the living room, she put one of the plates on the coffee table in front of him. She took her own to her chair.

Sair paused in his gaming and put the controller aside, taking the sandwich and eating it. No thanks of any sort was given, but then again he wasn't that kind of guy. He finished the sandwich fairly soon, then started playing again. "Where are you a paramedic at?" It was a very random question.
Ariadne ate her sandwich quietly, and watched him play the game he was currently beating. She hadn't expected him to thank her for the food, so was not let down, or disappointed when he in fact, did not.
"I work at the hospital on Elk street." She answered. There were three in the city, Elk street saw the worst of it all, as it was in the worst part of town.

Sair listened to her and nodded. He kept playing his game, but then his phone started ringing again. He frowned and rejected the call once more. Then it rang again! He rolled his eyes. "Freaking leeches, I'm not coming home!" he grumbled under his breath, turning his phone off altogether. He was irritated.
Ariadne frowned. She wondered what he was running away from. She hesitated on asking the question for several minutes, before her curiosity finally got the better of her, and she asked that very question.
Sair did not like the question that was asked. " 'Running away from'?! I'm not RUNNING from anything, Ariadne! I'm sick and tired of being used!" Oh, the irony she could point out with that! After all, he was using her right now, not caring at all about her but just wanting the food and shelter she could provide.
The irony of the comment was not lost on Ariadne, she felt like saying something about it too, and never having been good at holding her tongue...that's exactly what she did.
"Imagine that.." She said rather sarcastically. "Here you are, complaining that your being used unfairly..isn't that exactly what you are doing to me?"
