Sair rolled his eyes, then looked away. "I'm not bipolar." He went to the window and glanced out it, eyes scanning the area. "I may be a punk, but I'm not enough of a punk that I'd leave alone a girl that could've gotten killed 'cause of me. Besides, I'm tired of them bullying me like that. They like to get to me through whoever helps me. I'm sick of it. So I'm gonna make sure they can't get to me through you."
Ariadne raised an eyebrow. So he was going to what? Follow her around protecting her? She said nothing, but began to pull out makings for dinner.

"Well, I guess...thank you. Assuming this isn't a clever ploy, to get me to let you move in." She was joking of course..mostly.

Sair rolled his eyes again. "Who'd want to move in with you? All you do is work, work, work. Your playstation was so dusty it nearly made me cry." Of course, that was a severe exaggeration. Could ANYTHING make this man cry?
Though Ariadne would never admit it, the slight had hit a little close to home for her. He was, essentially right. All she did do was work... and at the point in her life when everyone else her age was partying hard, and living as large as they could. She was painfully boring.

She chopped onions, lost in her own thoughts.

Sair continued to stand by the window, watching what happened outside. He frowned slightly, eyes narrowing as he spotted something. A scout. One lone member of the gang snooping around. Sair cursed under his breath. He had hoped that it would take them longer to find where she lived. "Hey, finish with the food quick, yeah? We're going out tonight." He glanced at her, then out the window again. "Pack a bag for overnight." He took his phone and called up the police, reporting the 'suspicious activity'.
Ariadne, who was not privy to what he was thinking, couldn't understand the hurry, but turned up the heat on the stir fry she was making anyways.

"Why are we going out...and WHY do I need an overnight bag?.."

Sair looked at her. " 'cause you want to be safe. So, you're coming with me." He grimaced slightly and swallowed, looking out the window. "We're going to my house." Oh, how he despised having to do that. But there was no other way to get her safe. The gang wouldn't dare come near his place, and if the cops were around here then they wouldn't be able to break into her room and ransack the place.
Ariadne had paled when he said that. The Gang had found her house?! She immediately left the stir fry, and ran to her room to throw things she would need, into a pillowcase. Great. She wasn't even safe in her own home. What had she gotten herself in to?

They were going to his home? The one that he was avoiding? She wondered what the foster parents were like..

Sair walked over and caught her by the arm, gently but firmly. "Hey. I didn't say 'drop everything and pack up'. I said 'finish the food quick'. So finish the food. The cops are on their way, that'll delay them. They're not gonna come right away. S'just a goon. A scout." He let her go and went back to the window.
Ariadne wondered how he could be so calm about this. Who cared if it was just one? They intended to kill them both. Still, the news that the cops were on their way, was somewhat relieving. When she'd finished packing some things, she returned to the stove, to catch the stir fry before it burnt.

Sair was calm because it'd happened before. This wasn't the first time they'd messed with him or anyone close to him. He just stayed by the window, watching. He seemed rather...somber, actually. A lot more mellow than she was used to him being. Perhaps it was the sobriety of having to go home, even though he didn't want to.
Ariadne served out the stir fry, which was thankfully not horribly burnt. She passed him a bowl and a fork. Pulled some Soy sauce out of the fridge.

Leaning against the counter in the kitchen, she ate her own. She spoke between bites.

"Has this happened before?"

Sair sat down and took his bowl, eating the stir fry in silence until she asked the question. He glanced up at her, then looked back to his food, swallowing before he spoke. "Yep." He just kept eating, glancing at the window a couple times. He wondered how long it would take the cops to get there.
Ariadne pushed around her food in her bowl. She had another question to ask, but she was scared of the answer. It took her two long minutes before she'd worked up the courage to ask.

"...and how did it work out in the end?.."

Sair finished eating and leaned back in his chair, counting off on his fingers. "One moved to Florida, one got committed, one was paralyzed from the waist down, and two were put in caskets." He got up and put his dishes away. "I kind of have this thing where I'm determined not to need my other hand to count it off." In other words, he wasn't about to let them mess with her.
Ariadne put her food aside, not hungry anymore. She had the undeniable feeling that she was screwed. She only hoped that Sair would be able to keep her out of harms way, as he'd promised. Still, the sick feeling of panic was making itself known again. Well, worst came to worst. She was sure Florida was nice at this time of year...

Sair gestured for her to get up. "If you're done eating, then c'mon. We have to get going. Do you have everything?" He looked at her, waited for her to confirm, then took her by the arm carefully and led her out of the building. He walked along with her calmly, watching as a cop car passed them and parked in front of her building.
Ariadne grabbed her things, and then let herself get pulled out of the building, locking her door behind her. She was relieved to see that a cop had taken sentry in the front of her building. With any luck it wouldn't be completely trashed when she was finally able to go back.

Sair didn't walk for long. He stopped at a corner and hailed a taxi, getting in with her and giving the man the address. The driver took them on a trip that took a half hour to drive, and then they were there. It was a manor, a very fancy house, with a gate and a long driveway. When they pulled up to the door, they were let out. Grudgingly, Sair walked up to the door. He opened it and stepped inside. "C'mon in." he mumbled. He shut the door behind them, slamming it to vent some of his frustration.
Almost right away, someone came down the stairs. It was a pale, delicate, beautiful older woman with silver in her brown hair. "Sair! You've finally come home! We've been so worried about you..." She paused at the bottom of the fancy wooden stairs. "Oh my, who is this? You've never brought someone to the house before." Sair grit his teeth, took in a deep breath through his nose and let it out. "This is Ariadne. She's a...friend. She's gonna stay with us tonight."
Ariadne was amazed by the beauty of the house, so unlike anything near her end of town. Sair certainly didn't come from the sort of area, that his attitude would have led her to believe he did. Then again, she was finding that Sair wasn't an easily judged sort of person. He hadn't failed to surprise her yet, and this was no exception.

She smiled politely at the gorgeous older woman, who had rushed down to greet them.
