In the bright darkness of the near far future, smartphones were getting way out of hand.
The ever-growing web of information had reached critical mass. Even bionic implants and skyscrapers filled with networking technology could only keep cyberspace alive by a thread. Every cyberpunk cliche in existence was happening. 80s slang was being thrown around like no man's business, and 'cyber' was the standard prefix for just about everything.
This needed to stop, reasoned the people who had to clean the skyscrapers and the people who paid them to do it.
But they needed a solution.
Hundreds of kidnappings later, the solution was reached: the UPLINK program. Instead of everyone else having to fill themselves with biotech, they'd fill a select few people with biotech. So much biotech. More than anyone could stand, to the point where half the biotech was just keeping the other biotech running. Then, they could be used as what amounted to giant servers, using the immense power of the human brain. And all the electronics they'd hooked up to it.
Needless to say, it went off without a hitch - and as a nice bonus, the subjects were so traumatised they were effectively brain-dead, leaving all that juicy processing power for the cybernet to use. Problem solved.
...well, it went of without many hitches.
A select few people's minds survived the UPLINK program. Perhaps not as they had been before: some were driven violently insane, others lost their memories, but none remained the same person.
Nevertheless, they were still packed with biotech. Biotech that was linked into all the systems. As well as some people's minds.
What followed was an irritating setback for the companies involved, in that suddenly ten people were essentially the rulers of the world were it not for their mental instability.
Eventually, the might of the entire world had tracked down and destroyed seven of the rogue UPLINKS, incorporating what little of their bodies remained back into the system.
Three remained.
[hr]
One of them is called INVALID_ROUTINE. She used to be called something else, she thinks, but that's what her brain tells her that her name is.
She just wants a quiet life, playing games in cyberspace and chilling with all her friends on RP forums. Maybe a bit of physical activity, to keep all her fluids from congealing.
It's hard to have a quiet life, though, when you're a freakish cyborg monster with nigh-godlike power. Lots of visitors. Lots of them with guns.
Eventually, she puts out an ad on the 'Net.
[LOOKING FOR COMPANION(S) TO ENJOY PHYSWORLD ACTIVITIES WITH (NO CYBERSPACE) PLEASE COME TO] and then her address. Her physical address, that is. A huge stately home (or rather, an entire floor of a skyscraper made to look like one) that she'd given herself with her powers over basically the entire economy.
Now the only issue was whoever turned up...
OOC:
This is a fairly lax RP. Much more whimsical than the actual setting, I just feel like easing myself into using INVALID in a friendly setting.
Sign up with basically any character. Make any magic or whatever into biotech augmentations. Only accepting humanoids, though.

No magic at all.
Further future, perhaps visit mars or upload your brain
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.
Does AI exist in your setting and does Durga sound like an uplink survivor?
Yo. Sounds fun! I'm between jobs and a little bored. Mind if I bring my Bondmate? She's a pain sometimes, but not too terrible to hang with.

Don't be stupid, boy. If you go, so will I. And I have no interest in "hanging" with anyone. Unless I'm the one kicking them off the stand myself.
