Andii

Hello!

So I found this site a ... couple months ago or so, and initially intended just to use it to recruit for games on another server (gasp!) but that didn't pan out so well. So now I'm ... playing here instead. When in Rome ... or whatever =x

So I am a dinosaur at 39, married, and kind of looking for new long-term writing partners? I was playing with my husband but he's elected to take a hiatus (boo) and now I have a gaping gap of rplessness in my life. I'm not hugely familiar with forums, but this one's easy enough to navigate and the people I am playing with are decently helpful at pointing out how to do things here, so yay for that.

I started my RP life on AOL/chatrooms/guilds (OCS anyone? XD ) and migrated to LJ then to IJ where I still mostly am but ... also looking for greener pastures. So I'm infinitely more familiar with journal play but forum play's not so different, really, at a base level.

I play guys and girls, comfortable in most time periods, prefer real people faces to artwork (with the exception of like, aliens and anthros, obvs) though can be down with either. Interested in literate, multi-paragraph writing, people who don't ghost, okay with adult situations, and am pretty much always down for doing a quickie scene to see if we click as writers. Maybe my dream writing partner's here somewhere =D

So. hi :)

Welcome to RPR. I'm Asroc. I RP many and mostly Canons, but I am friendly to OC RPers and will RP with them. I do mainly AU RPs as them. Enjoy your time here.

Hi there! I'm 31, and I know there's others floating around here. I have to say, I'm jealous your husband ever wrote with you at all! Mine is un-convinceable. Table top games, sure, but writing? Nah.

Oh, and just to make you feel a little better about your age and where you started at... I recall my very first roleplay which was based on the Matrix after it first came out (The first movie - the others suck!). I didn't write in AIM or LJ.... no, I used mIRC.

Oh, boy.

Rest in Peace, AIM. You will be missed (if you didn't know, they're discontinuing AIM in December).
With that said...

Welcome to the site. Always nice to hear how people got started!

Forum sites are new for me as well, but surprisingly this site is much more streamlined and user friendly. I am certain with time, you'll figure your way around here easily.

Here's to you encountering stories and characters you wish to interact with!

It's how we met, ironically enough. I'm kind of surprised he kept it up as long as he did.

and Lol! Wow. That is ... wow.

Yeah, a few people were complaining loudly about that. I haven't used AIM itself in ... years, so I didn't much care. Most people have moved on to Discord anyway, and I'm not much for real-time chatting.

And it really is pretty easy to navigate. Once I'm committed, I'll probably start poking around the groups - or make one. =x

Thanks!
Hi Andii! There's a surprising amount of geezers lurking out here, which I was satisfied to find out when I joined a few weeks ago. I'm 32 and RP with my SO--kind of a reverse of your situation, where I was the one who took a hiatus from RP for a while. We're both still doing NaNo projects together, though!

Anyways, I hear you on the migration pains! I was on AIM and forums as a teen in the early 2000's (yahoo groups even, what is life... does that count as the early days of Tumblr RP since Yahoo bought them out?) making character pages on geocities and all that nostalgic stuff. I moved on to IJ briefly but found the culture there was pretty toxic, at least in a couple of the early groups I joined! I then ironically went to Dreamwidth for a few years which had a lot of great places but also a lot more of a strange undertone, a bit like a gated community, I suppose. I find that here you have a lot more welcoming folks but a lot less of the 'same' type of people, which means that on the plus side, less bullying and finger-pointing and blah, but on the minus side, more having to hunt to find characters, players, and groups that fit your style.

Oh! That reminds me, one of the interesting things about RPing here is that images aren't nearly as prominent as on IJ! Icons, though I miss them, really only play a part as tiny 25 or 30px wide images in your PM box if you're writing a one-on-one thread, and as a single 100px icon on the forums. There's more you can do in a character's gallery, of course, but if that's been a weird factor before (it has for me, playing mostly drawn characters against live PB's on DW always seemed funny to scroll down through different icons) it doesn't seem so noticeable here.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your stay. Good luck on seizing the dream! ;P

Yeah. IJ's still pretty toxic, honestly. Because everyone knows everyone and everyone's had drama with everyone - or their friends - so it's ... yeah. I never really ventured to DW but mostly because it looked like it was either a lot of anime or a lot of asterisks/brackets actions which ... I couldn't dive back into.

I'll miss icons, I think. Just because so many of my journals have such expressive facial expression icons for all the situations I wind my kids up into. Figure if I'm here long enough I'm going to wander back to art icons of my elf kids anyway ...

But yay for an older crowd here =D and hopefully I will stumble across what I'm looking for :) Thanks for the welcome!

Nah, DW had a mix of that fast-paced one-line action and voluminous writers staying a plotty course. By the time I'd gotten there it was an equal match of live PB's and drawn/anime/etc, however it was mostly fandom RP. I'm not much into that, but as it seemed at the time like it was a choice between that and tumblr, I figured I'd stick it out. Just long enough to get attached to the idea of icons, too, unfortunately! I feel your pain.

I used to be, but that ship sailed a while ago. I do some RP still with the characters nearest and dearest but I generally prefer OCs. I never did stumble across the paragraphs writers on DW, but I didn't look real hard either.

I bet there's a way to code in icons to replies ... ::shifty eyes:: maybe i'll start a new trend.
Welcome to RPR! I’m always open to RP and I love friends, so feel free to PM me whenever you’d like!
