Kinsey loved Halloween.
It would be more accurate to say she loved every human holiday. The decorations, the traditions, the ways she had seen them change over the years - it was exciting.
But Halloween was probably her favorite.
The Sunflower Cafe was closed, kind of. It was decorated ominously, with scary props and spider webs galore. The doors were open, despite the sign declaring 'closed', and several trays with Halloween-themed treats were placed along tables that lead to where Kinsey was sitting, beaming despite her macabre costume.
Her hair was glamoured, as she'd rather not have to deal with cramming the typically long, red mass into a wig of some sort. It was a short black bob, stylish despite the rest of her being adorned in makeup that turned her skin pale (of course the human-loving faerie used makeup). Wounds were painted on in various places, and magic made an easier time for the illusion of chunks having been taken out of her skin rather than any camera rig.
She even created a little bit of the illusion of bone looking through one, although all her magically-created wounds were just fake enough to not terrify anyone too badly (or upset any easily-offended zombie, Kinsey mused).
She crossed her legs together on her chair, eagerly awaiting the first hordes of trick-or-treaters as she held the bowl of candy. She was most excited for any kids to cross her path - she loved children, and not to eat - but seeing the costumes of anyone and everyone would be cool. Adults, after all, could jury-rig fancier things.
This was going to be the best Halloween.

It was the bye week for the Wichita Airplanes, meaning Clint had some time to goof off and since it was Halloween, what better way to spend it than taking his twelve-year old sister out trick-or-treating? His older brother wasn't wanting to do it, citing he was too busy despite jobless and single. Sighing, the two siblings were off and decided to head towards the Sunflower Cafe which gave a rather spooky vibe despite the soft name of the cafe.
Clint was dressed up like Clint Black, the country music singer whom he was named after. He had a stereotypical cowboy outfit and carried a guitar on his back. Carrie was dressed up like her favorite player for the Kansas City Chiefs, specifically, quarterback Alex Smith. They were an interesting pair, and by looking at the two, you could potentially mistaken Clint for the girl's father.
Entering the cafe, Carrie grinned at the decor. "In comparison to the haunted house we went to previously, this is far nicer and much spookier." She stated as she noticed the rather gruesome costume on the fairy, her grin widened at it. "Awesome costume, miss! I love it." The girl was obviously a big Halloween goer at times.

Kinsey saluted the eager child, feeling quite pleased with the compliments on her decor. She liked decorating and making people happy, and this was two birds with one stone.
The compliment on her costume made her feel even better. She bowed, offering the bowl of candy to her. "Hmm, let's see. You're a quarterback, right?" Kinsey grinned. "I don't really follow sports, but I'm guessing... you're whoever plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, right? Or... the Patriots? What state are they from..." She paused, frowning, then shook her head. "Well, whichever one you are, you're welcome to a big handful of candy."
She waved her hand at the elder. "And your dad can have some candy too, and you're both welcome to whatever treats are on the table."

Jacob walked up to the 'closed' restaurant, hoping that his costume was up to scuff. He was dressed as a human that he had seen in a video game named Portal. He wasn't really sure how well he was pulling it off, and hoped that he didn't come off as a mix between human and anthro.
Jacob moved up to the hurt looking person feeling nervous. While the decorations weren't all that scary, the idea that he may not leave the shop without a few injuries was. He held his bag out to the injured human? and said, "T-trick or Treat." He hoped that it wasn't a monster hiding under all that make-up.

Kristan and Lirit were just beginning their adventures of trick-or-treating, barely having any candy. "Hey look, a café with candy for trick-or-treaters," Kristan pointed out "Maybe they have better candy than the average house, eh?" Lirit just shrugged and smiled at Kristan, Kristan smiling back as they walked over. "Trick-or-treat!"
Kinsey tilted her head at the shy stranger, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully.
"Hmmm - I can't put my finger on it, tell me, what're you supposed to be?"
She dutifully doled out candy anyway, a heaping handful of it. She had... maybe overbought the candy. Just a little. Her enthusiasm knew no bounds.
"Hey, you know, don't be so nervous. This is all just a costume, you know?" She beamed at him happily, shrugging her shoulders. "Relax. Halloween's supposed to be scary. Have fun with it!"
Two others approached, and they were greeted with a wave. "Hello! Come on in, take a big old handful of candy, both of you. I have plenty to go around!"
She gestured at the tables of treats - both sweet and somewhat healthier, like 'spooky' veggies with dip - as well. "Feel free to have a snack, too. I set it up for a reason!"

"Thank you," Kristan smiled, walking over to the table and grabbing some candy. Lirit followed after, grabbing some candy, not knowing what kind of candy Kristan liked, but it's not like Lirit was gonna eat any of it, as long as they weren't dark choholate at least. Lirit also grabbed herself some veggies, considering she wasn't really gonna be eating much for the night anyways, since Kristan said they're dinner was gonna be 75% candy they earned.
"Ah, I'm supposed to be this human named Cave Johnson." Jacob looked at the girl closer. Could those injuries really just be part of the costume? They looked so real though, how could they? "How did you get injured?" Jacob asked, hoping the answer wasn't something like 'I did it for candy ingrediants' or something like that.
Jacob accepted the candy, and put down his bag.
Jacob accepted the candy, and put down his bag.
Kinsey grinned, glad that at least one of them took her up on her offer of not-candy food. I mean... most of it was sweet treats, anyway. Caramel apples, orange-frosted chocolate cupcakes with spider rings, cookies in the shape of ghosts and pumpkins.
"I'm not really injured," Kinsey told the fox dressed up like Cave Johnson. "It's all just makeup and a little bit of magic." She ran a hand over where part of her rib was showing, taking down the glamour. Her shirt was still ripped there, but normal skin was revealed. She ran a hand a second time over it, turning it back to the rib. "See? Magic and makeup."
She could tell he was nervous, and her natural instinct was to help soothe his nerves.

Jacob's eyes widened when he saw the injuries literally disappear. "Magic? You mean magic's real?" Jacob had never encountered magic before, not coming from a place that had any. So Jacob's first introduction to magic was being used as a parlor trick to make a costume appear more real. At the least, he wasn't scared anymore. In fact, he wondered a bit if he was dreaming.
Well, that was one way for someone to know. In her experience, usually beings that were like this one - anthropomorphic versions of animals Kinsey were used to being more... animal-like - came from worlds with magic. Or technology. Well, crap. This was fine; at least he'd calm down.
"Yup. Welcome to the rabbit hole, kiddo," the faerie said with a laugh.

Jacob's head tilted. "Rabbit hole? Are you talking about where some of my friends live? They don't live in holes." Jacob was completely oblivious to the writings of humans, having only ever seen them in imagined stories, such as video games. As such, even if they did have their own version of Alice in Wonderland, they certainly used something other than a rabbit hole.
She laughed. "Sorry, sorry. I was referencing - Do you know the story of Alice and Wonderland? Perhaps the other side of the looking glass would be better. I don't want to be rude, you know?"
The faerie grinned, shrugging. "You know, this is the longest anyone's stayed here so far tonight, why don't you take some more candy?" She offered the bowl to the fox across from her.

Jacob's head tilted to the side when he heard the names of the stories. "No... I don't think I've ever heard of those stories." His confusion ended when Kinsey offered him candy. He simply threw the thoughts of Alice and Wonderland out of his head and worried about the more important thing, getting more candy. He took a handful of candy with a bright smile.
It was that special night that Liuma loved when it came to Evian tradition. Though the company she usually kept were nothing of the sort, it was when they journeyed through the continent of Eve that Liuma learned about humans and their festivities that they carried with them all the way from the Old World. Of course, knowing that today was that 'Samhain' or 'All Hallow's Eve' thing, there was a large grin on Liuma's face as she travelled down the sidewalks and past houses.
With Liuma, a less amused looking elf walked alongside her.
"Vale, isn't this just wonderful? Liuma said as she twirled around, her arms out as she motioned to everything. They were walking less past residential areas now and more around commercial buildings. Even the shops and restaurants had some Halloween decorum about them, which felt a little much to Vale as he watched the glamoured dragon prancing this way and that in her elven form.
"So long as you're enjoying yourself, Liuma..." Vale sighed, keeping his left hand upon the pommel of his sword as they walked.
"Ooh, ooh! Look here, Valian! A café! Let's go pay a visit! Maybe they have special Samhain deals!" Liuma quickly said, running off before Vale could even give a response. He looked after her, sighing and shaking his head. He only hoped that she would not be too much trouble for the other visitors around or the staff that chose to volunteer their time to passing out candy.

Kinsey smiled right back at the fox.
And then there was someone else there, a lizard by the looks of it. She waved. "Hello, hello! Welcome!" She made a grand gesture, grinning practically ear to ear. "Good to see you this lovely evening. Feel free to take any of the snacks I have out, and I have plenty of candy."
An elf followed more slowly behind her, and Kinsey shook her bucket. "I also have candy for chaperones. If you need something to drink, I have water and punch too." She pointed at the table with the two things. The punch cooler was colored red and had ice and various food objects designed to look like various organs or part of organs.
The faerie loved Halloween.

"Likewise!" Luima said, pushing stray locks of black hair from her face as she gave the woman a once over and then reached for the candies with glee. "I'll be happy to take some candies off your hands~!"
"Don't grab too many, Liuma. Much as you want to claim you have the 'appetite of a dragon', you're not a dragon. You're not even taller than me -- you're actually quite short for an average Iliean elf," Vale said, dropping his own hints toward the glamoured dragon as she reached her currently 'normal' elven hands for some sweets and goodies. He then turned his attention toward Kinsey, trying not to look so intimidating as he normally did with his unamused expression.
"Apologies for her beforehand. She's... not used to Evian traditions or celebrations..." Vale said. "But I do thank you for your generosity toward our company on this holiday."
