"Oh Lord, it's that time of year again..." Vernon groaned as his dog, Bebe, bounced on him as he lay in bed as her way of saying Get up Daddy!. It was his fault for spoiling her "All right I'm gettin' up ya brat!" He grinned at her excitement. It was Halloween and despite the fact it was the one night of the year supernaturals could run free without fear of being hunted by tradition of the United Hunting Society, Vern enjoyed passing out candy to trick or treaters.

He dressed in his work duster and pulled out an old western cowboy hat, even without the hat he looked the part. "Commere Bebe girl, let's get you dressed up" he patted his leg and the brindle furred mutt skittered over to him sitting with her head up knowing the bandanna her owner held was her costume along with the small amount of rope she already had in her mouth. Vern tied the bandanna on her and stood back to admire her "Too cute, now let's go!" He said opening the door of his small two bedroom house which was the last house on this street. He moved over to an old chair and sat with his dog on one side chewing on her rope and a bucket of candy on his other. "Now we wait, and I have to resist the urge to eat this candy myself..." He said to his dog who gave him a look as to say The candy is for other people! and Vern laughed shaking his head.

This little bundle of sunshine had delicately picked out her costume. It was a quite unique one, in her opinion of course. She skipped down the lane and stopped at the next house she came across, walking up the path and knocking on the open door before bouncing into the house and yelling; “HAPPY HALLOWEEN, SIR OR MISS!!”

Kaci loved this time of year, it was the time she got to bring up childhood memories of dressing up. Of course, her being fifteen and all, it was ‘uncool’ to dress up unless it was Halloween.
And thank god it was!!
She was wearing a sort of mermaid outfit. She had a green and blue sequinned crop top on, letting it show a very slight part of her stomach, before the lining of her matching tail was revealed. The strange part of it was, the outline of the tail was fine, but the inside was black and had a bone structure on it, showing the bones of the mermaid tail.
Kaci fell in love with this costume the moment she had tried it on, and she hoped to wear it to a few dress up parties in the future.
She was wearing matching shoes and her hair was pulled back into a fishtail braid, layered with tons of seashells. She had blue/green eyeshadow on and her face was riddled with face paint scales.
Her costume was actually quite good.

Kaci tilted her head and walked slightly further into the house before seeing the man and his dog.
She smiled brightly at him and bounced up and down slightly.
“Aha, happy Halloween, sir.” She corrected herself, tapping her tote bag against her leg.

Bebe had alerted Vern someone was coming by the way she stood and wagged her tail smacking his chair with it, he heard the very happy girl call out before seeing him. He smiled "Well hello there little miss, you make a good mermaid!" He says with a bit of a western accent. Bebe jumped around showing off but never letting her rope drop from her mouth, the dog bounced excitedly over to the girl before Vern stood "Hup!" He said taking off his hat and bowing slightly, Bebe whipped to face him before springing up to sit on his shoulders as he stood back up.

The man nodded to the young girl "And happy Halloween to you as well" he reached down and picked up the bucket of candy holding it out "Take what ya like" he said happily, this girl's mood was proving to be quite contagious.

Kaci grinned as she was greeted by the dog, quickly giving it a pet before letting it run back to its owner.
“Thanks, mistah’!” She chirped to him, giving him another smile. “This took me ages to find and decorate! I’m glad you think it’s good!” She exclaimed, smiling again as she took a few things from the bowl.
“Have you had any other kids?” She asked, loving to make conversation with people, strangers or not.

Vern nodded his approval at the girls costume hearing the part about how it took a long time to put together "Sometimes the best things take forever to come by." He said nudging the dog on his shoulders with his head earning a happy yip from her. "Bebe seems to like it too, she's a spoiled girl..." The dog perks her floppy ears.

As he heard the question he shook his head "You would be the first, and might I say your good mood is quite contagious!" He says sitting the candy back down after the girl got what she wanted, he wasn't one for conversation often but he had nothing better to do "Would you care to see Bebe girl do a few tricks? My spoiled dog loves to show off" he asked. Bebe dropped her rope now offering a yawning whine squirming on Vern's shoulders. Vern caught the rope and offered back to her as he waited for an answer.

Kaci listened closely to the man and smiled. “That’s a very wise statement.” She told him before nodding as he continued.
“Oh, lucky me!!” She squealed as she bopped up and down. She then smiled as he asked her about his dog.
“I’d LOVE to!!” She exclaimed, clapping her hands as she laughed at the dog and it’s owner.
Kaci really did love dogs, but she was actually more of a cat person. Dogs were a VERY close second though. She loved all animals.

Vern looked to Bebe having heard the answer "Floor" he said and the dog jumped to the floor. He crouched "Kip!" He commanded. The commands he'd taught her were quite different, he needed it to be because he took her on hunts with him. Bebe laid down flattening down with an obvious excitement in her eyes. Vern looked to his guest "The commands she knows are different, I trained her well though..."

He stands putting the hat back on "Fass" he said and the dog lifted her rear and tucked her tail "Good girl, now Set!" Bebe sneezed before using her back legs to bounce up and balancing on her front front legs "Dip, Dip, Hit..." Vern commanded taking a step back with each word. Bebe took two steps towards Vern on her front paws before spinning around and coming to a sitting stop right on top of Vern's boots.

Vern pulled a treat from his pocket and gave it to his dog "Good girl" he praises. Bebe gently takes the treat and yipps at the praise before jumping away. Vern moves closer and holds a flat hand just over her head then moving it in three circles "Veer, Vere, Vere!" He commands and Bebe spins in three circles "Hup!" Vern adds and Bebe springs back to his shoulders before the man bends down causing her to move to his back. He turned to face his guest "Care to give her a command yourself?" He asks the girl "Hold two fingers up and say Chip..." He gives a smile, Bebe perked her ears but didn't move having not seen a handsign, she gave a curious whimper obviously waiting.

"Ruan, c'mon! All this time away from one another, and you don't want to celebrate? Look, look! There are so many people that are celebrating whatever dress up festival this is, and they're going door to door saying that 'trick or treat' thing! It looks like so much fun! And what's more, brother, no one is even giving us a second glance -- at least not in a bad way! We should have fun!" Dayo exclaimed as she tugged at the arm of a larger man who seemed to share nothing in common with the smaller woman aside from skin tone and the horns and scales upon their bodies.

"Tch... fine Dayo... if only because you really want to look into all of... whatever this festival is..." Ruan finally complied as the two of them walked down along the pathways. A slight smile found its way upon his face as his sister turned around and excitedly hopped up and down, clapping her hands together before hurrying along with a slight bounce to her step to the first house that they saw.

"Look, look Ruan! They must be there to help give the 'trick or treaters' their prizes for coming to their door!" Dayo excitedly said, not waiting for her brother as she walked the way up to the house. She spotted the man, the woman, and the dog that had been the centre of attention for the time being. For now, Dayo watched as she walked toward them with that look of cheerful curiosity evident on her face.

Vern had noticed the approach and so had Bebe, the dog who had just been so eager to show off simply jumped from the man's back and almost skittishly went over the the two new audience members and the man stood giving a curious look "You are some kinda picky Bebe girl...what's up with you? You usually love to show off!" He said giving an apologetic look to the young lady who'd been watching.

Bebe sniffed at the odd duo before tilting her head with a curious whine, it was now Vern knew the two weren't human and their appearance was not a mere costume...yet his dog didn't give him any warning of a threat so he shook his head deciding not to comment. Instead he snaps his fingers and gives an odd hand gesture which causes the dog to leap up and move to the bucket of candy picking the handle up in her mouth and carrying the bucket over then sitting in front of the two and wagging her tail with audible thumps on the hardwood floor.

Vern offered a smile now glad his first guest was so happy that he now shared her mood as he did and then spoke "Happy Halloween, come on in!" He said cheerfully again drawing on the western accent "By all means, take what you like of the candy" he added remembering he had plenty more in the kitchen...

Dayo was halted as soon as it seemed that a doggy was making its way over to her and her brother. In that moment, Dayo's eyes lit up even further as she knelt down and offered her hand for the pup to get a better sniff. However, before Dayo even gets a chance to put the dog, it seems that they were ordered to fetch something.

"Oh wow! Ruan, look~ This dog is really smart!" Dayo said, clapping her hands and then leaning back down again to this time hopefully pet the creature.

"Apologies for my sister, she's... quite excitable..." Ruan said, noting the other two people that had been there. Since Dayo was paying them no immediate mind, he supposed that he would at least give the two that courtesy. Glancing back down to his sister revealed her taking a few pieces of candy from the bucket the dog had brought to her.

"This doggy is just so cute! I love them!" Dayo giggled, taking a moment to put the gathered candies into one of her pouches before scrubbing at Bebe's cheeks and making cooing noises and going off into, 'who's a good doggy, you are~! Yes, you're a good doggy!'

"Ah... yes... well..." Ruan said, looking back to Vern. "Thank you for the invitation. I'm sure my sister also appreciates it greatly."

Vern was a bit on edge knowing the two weren't human but he knew tonight would bring more surprises, his past made him this way even when he tried to push it away.

He was thinking about this and worrying if they'd cause trouble when one of his new guests commented on Bebe being smart, a massive smile broke through "Yes she is, smarter than me sometimes!" He said proudly hearing the apology that followed "Nah, it's just fine...I'm glad she likes my dog" he said moving to retrieve the bucket "Resa" he ordered the dog who opened her mouth and let him take the handle before closing her mouth with a yawn.

As he put the bucket down and turned back he saw the female had earned a happy squirming whine from Bebe "All that praise I think she might just wanna leave with ya!" He joked "Her name is Bebe, she- Ah ah no licking!" He went from talking to the brother to scolding Bebe as she had begun to lick at the hands petting her. The dog looked back with big begging eyes, Vern groaned "Fine fine, you make my heart melt ya spoiled brat" he caved.

Bebe went back to giving the young woman who was petting her licks of joy as the brother spoke thanking him for the invitation "It's Halloween, all are welcome!" He said taking his hat off with a nod off approval "Bebe loves her already..." He adds seeing his dog squirming around trying to be pet everywhere at once.

He realized the other hadn't taken any candy and decided to offer him some personally, he picked up the bucket and moved over offering the bucket "Can't let sister have all the fun, here take what you like..." he said for once his mind not drifting to unhappy memories...he was enjoying himself.

Ruan passed off his own small smile to Vernon as he was offered sweets from their bucket of goods. Reaching out and inspecting some of the items, the tiefling discerned that some of them were taffies, and some were hardened sugar candies. However, they were certainly candy types that he was not too used to, and so took a few of the ones that he was most curious about before going ahead to pocket them into one of his own pouches.

"My thanks," Ruan said, looking back to his sister. His expression softened a bit more. Just how long had it been since they had been reunited after the rifts that tore them apart to place them at the starts of their respective journeys? All those years, and this moment of peace felt something like a dream.

"Indeed, you're right. Definitely can't allow my sister to have all the fun," Ruan agreed after a moment of being lost in thought. "Though, I'm happy to see that she's making friends. She always did enjoy the company of animals."

Meanwhile, Dayo had been happy to give Bebe some more attention and love before having to tear herself away and reunite herself with Ruan and actually get formally acquainted with the owner of this residence. Skipping up to the two, Dayo adjusted her hair before flashing a smile to Vernon.

"Thanks for letting me play with your dog! And thank you for the candy!" Dayo said, before turning her attention back to Bebe and leaning down again to be a little more eye level with her. "And thank you for being such a good girl, you little cutie~!"

Vern nodded his acknowledgement at being thanked noticing the change in the males expression as he looked back to his sister, it was clear he cared greatly for her...it made him think of his own sister who he had failed to protect. The memory made his heart feel like it was being crushed inside his chest but he pushed the feeling away, his steely eyes revealing no sign of his inner struggle. "Indeed, and Bebe loves anyone or anything capable of either complimenting her or petting her." He jokes.

As the girl skipped back over he gave a short nod "She really likes you, and no need to thank me..." He nodded to the dog "Bebe girl knows she's the boss here." He joked earning a sneeze from the dog as if to say "I hope your picking fun!" before she sprung up squirming in the air obviously hyper and quite happy having heard the compliments.

Vern tried not to laugh at the sight and failed "Now what was that about?" He asked her before turning to his guests again "Have a happy Halloween." He said moving back to his chair before Bebe darted to jump in his lap curling up with her tail still wagging...

"To you as well," Ruan said, watching as Vernon went back to accompanying the other person that had been there prior.

"Happy Halloween! Have a good reset of the night!" Dayo happily chirped back, waving to Vern, Bebe, and the other woman that had been there, Kaci. "Sorry if we disrupted anything!"

With that, the two siblings started for the next house within the vicinity to see what else they would be presented with.
