I got the name Tell from a book, Sackett brand. The main character is William-Tell Sackett. He's my favorite character, so I just thought, what the hell, and used it.
Shadrastrasza Myrinth Crimsonwing: Her avatar on WoW was originally named Shadowspire. I asked a friend for a red dragon name (all females end with -strasza while males are -strasz), and she came up with Shadrastrasza! Hilarity insued, of course, when she was anything but her nickname Shady. Dragons in WoW typically lack middle names and surnames, but Shady grew up around humans and wanted to embrace their customs, so she created her middle name and surname.

Rinnagan: A phoenix friend of Shady's. I wanted an Irish-sounding name that could use the nickname Rinny. Not much thought was put into the name, but that goes with him being a little companion that patches up Shady's wounds every now and then.

Audisey Elizabeth Sterlingmoon: Explained in previous thread. :D However, the middle name and surname are to fit with the Gilnean background. Elizabeth is a reference to the Queen of England, which sort of alludes to my name being Victoria, also based on a former queen. Sterlingmoon is derived from the sterling silver peace ring I never take off and the significance of the moon to a worgen (WoW werewolves).

Mallowfrost: Warriors fan OC. Mallow refers to the flower, as she was a very fragile and soft domestic kitten when rescued from the floods and brought into the camp. During adolescence, she became one of those cats who can only serve tough love, but she was loyal to her best friend -- even more so than her clan. Due to her somewhat "cold" and distant nature, she was dubbed Mallowfrost when she graduated to a warrior.

Quickfoot

I got my first taste of Spyro the Dragon's Egg Thieves as allies while playing Enter the Dragonfly, and I was hooked. I loved those little guys, and the idea of them being more than enemies thrilled me. Thinking back on the level during Quickfoot's creation as a fandom character, I realized the thieves in the Thieves' Den level had unusual or "foreign-esque" names: Thiefy Yu, Thiefy Wu, & Footpad were the ones mentioned by name. I didn't fully understand the choice of names, but I got the gist of their being unusual and perhaps eluding to their thieving natures (perhaps Footpad is very light on his feet and quiet when he steals?) When I decided I wanted my own thief to be quick on his feet, Quickfoot made perfect sense too!

I love you. When I saw his page, I thought, "Man, I guess I just love Spyro too much because Quickfoot looks a lot like the thieves in Enter the Dragonfly." As those thieves would say, EHEHEHE. I just luff you so much.
Clipped:

1. to cut, or cut off or out, as with shears: to clip a rose from a bush.
2. to cut short; curtail: We clipped our visit by a week to return home earlier.
3.to clip or cut something.
4. to move swiftly: He clipped along the highway on his motorcycle.
5. Archaic . to fly rapidly.
Quote:
I choose Clipped, well namely because my main character is named that but also throughout my life i have had many hairstyles. I have always been a tomboy and truly never cared about my hair, stating: "it'll always grow back." If the barber didn’t give me a style that looked good”

The name Clipped was also a nickname i got, many years ago, dating back to when i was 9 years of age. My best friend from childhood, decided to take scissors to me one day on my front porch in Montana. She was eight. Needless to say, small children shouldn’t cut each other’s hair. When she was done i ended up with a hairstyle that suited a zombie, not a nine-year old girl. After being taken to the local barber, who made it worst (if that’s even possible) i pretty much ended up shaving it.

Since then, i have had hairstyles down to my butt, above my ears and everywhere in between. Thus the name Clipped.
Oh gosh, this is going to be so long. You people are going to loath me soon lol.

Adrienn (Darkness) Eduart (Guardian of Prosperity) Odd that I’d match ‘prosperity’ with a vampire. But she’s so old, I have no clue what I was thinking when I gave her that last name…

Aislin (Vision) Amelia (Defender) Lourdes (Crowned with Laurels) I thought the whole thing was pretty fitting for a witch.

Clelia (Fame) Aeolos (Changeable) Roman, Roman, Roman, Roman… that’s pretty much all there was to it.

Divinity (Divine, heavenly) St.Vitalia – (St.) Full of life.) I did this just to mock my character. She's a Reaper. She most likely hates my guts. lol

Ilona (Light) Ciprian (From Cyprus.) Though, she’s from Romania? I think her Loupine bloodline started in Greece though. #Forgot.

Izabet (My bastardized form of Erzsebet (like the countess) which is just another form of Elizabeth, which means ‘my god is an oath’.) Though Iz is a Demon and she doesn’t really claim any deity… other than herself. She’s full of herself like that.

Lydia (Apparently means, ‘of Lydia’. I think I just liked the name.) Alair (Joyful, happy.) Yeah, Oracles… hard to give them meaningful names.

Mariya Alexandrovna Romanov (Er… It’s a bit more difficult to break this one down. Russian names, kind of a pain in the butt. Mariya/ Мари́я means: Rebelliousness or Obstinacy. That was the only bit I had much of a choice in and I had to make it fit her as best as possible. Russian middle names are Patronymic, her father’s name was Alexander. Therefore, Alexandrovna was best for her middle name. The rest of it is historical excess; you can see her profile for details.)

Naida ( means ‘water nymph’. Considering that is exactly what she is, this is severely unoriginal. It couldn’t be helped, I liked the sound of it. )

Addison (Son of Adam. There’s a reason to this, but it’s a lengthy explanation and I'm already typing too much. lol) "Wash" (Because I’m a GIANT geek… and I love Firefly.) Washington (How the hell else was I supposed to get “Wash” in there? Give me a break. Lol)
I can't remember why I gave my main character the name Siena. Maybe I heard the name Sienna Miller and liked it? I can't recall. (PS. I made Siena exactly 7 years ago today!)

As for Kyllikki, I was checking out Finnish names and just really, really like the look and sound of it.
Shojah [made up name I gave him when I created him at 13, as he was an alien back then] Galvez [a name I ripped out of my history book from one Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid, Viscount of Galveston and Count of Gálvez. That's a mouthful!]

Raginfrik [A name created from Germanic elements. I looked at names like "Ragnhild", with the "ragn" part meaning along the lines of "council, advice", and I'm not sure how the I made it in there.. but Frik comes from part of his last name...] Ulfriksson [Meaning Son of Ulfrik, Ulfrik being a form of Wulfric, meaning "wolf", "power/king". So Ragin's first name could mean along the lines of.. council to the king or something!]

Bolverk, Rorik, and Skallagrim are just traditional Viking male names. I picked 'em because they sound cool. I think Skallagrim has something to do with baldness, though. XP

Tillik, Ferrow, Skjolda, and Lufia sound cool, but I wanted the names to evoke feelings about the character. Tillik's name is harsh, like a bird's screech, but it still flows together. Lufia is soft. Ferrow I wanted to get that Renaissance bard feel. Skjolda is pseudo-Norse.

Magnus Mortlock's name is just manly. Magnus ver Magnusson was the strongest man in the world for a while. Mortlock is from a Cracked article on the world's manliest real-life names. :P

Mitra I think means golden prince. He was named by people, so I think it's okay to give him a meaningful name.

Jallajoik is I think my favorite of my character's names. I glommed two Finnish words onto each other with ZERO respect for proper morphology. I'm a crazy beast, watch out! Jalla means something like "crazy, stupid, dumb, insane." Joik is a form of traditional Sami singing. So he's "crazy joik." I love it. Plus, the alliteration is just beautiful, and you say it like "Yallayoik."

And Heimdall is Heimdall.
Oh, man, RPR. Can you handle the number of "The [Noun]" names you're about to be subjected to?

In order:

Ignymn.

Pulled it right out my arse. Mmhmm.

Madame Dun.

The venerable Madame's last name happened in tandem with her first appearance. She and her name appeared together, more or less, out of the raw firmament (and/or my arse, once again).

Her given name (Didiane), however, wasn't assigned until much later, when I decided to play her on her own, rather than as an accessory to Orestin's plotline. Initially, I had been considering the name "Anastasie". By sheer coincidence, however, a character played by a friend of mine, meant to eventually become part of Didiane's own story, was also slotted to receive that name. So, I decided to use the feminine variant of one of my favourite French names, Didier.

As for her family name (de Carlisle); out the arse.

Operator Periwinkle.

The most fabulous colour I could think of, at the time. And/or another thing that came straight out my arse.

This seems to be something of a theme.

Saluda.

Apropos of absolutely nothing about the character, the name of a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. Therefore, I chalk this up to my prolific arse, once again.

His birth name (Shj'ahn), however, is the result of many boring thoughts regarding naming conventions, language and social structure among his people, which I will eventually write down in the Lore section of his character profile.

Splice.

Arse. Next.

The Englishman.

Used to have a proper name, back when I created him (some eight to ten years ago, now), which is so far removed from anything I associate with the character now that I won't include it here.

Some time after I first created him, I began writing a short story from the perspective of a young man that runs afoul of him, wherein the narrator refers to him as 'the Englishman'. When it came time to resurrect the character, I looked back on some of the old material associated with him, and that moniker stuck out, to me. He began to become a more complex and textured character, by way of justifying and exploring the ambiguity around his name; things escalated from there.

The Magister.

Weeping Christ, this fool.

His names are explored here.

The Vessel.

Four characters, and an empty body. Their names are all arse-born.

Valish.

Hnnngh, I'm not finished yet? Black piss.

Arse. The end.
Woof. I have a few characters.

Byrnn
I think I was amused at the idea of an imp that was afraid of fire being called something that sounds like 'burn'. Who knows, it was ages ago.

Cayne
Oh, my Cayne. It's pronounced the way it looks, and is an approximation of the biblical name 'Cain'. I was listening to Tiamat's song Cain when the idea for the character popped into my head. While there was once an Abel in his story, the best friends, compared to the biblical brothers, probably should have been named the opposite; in our tale, Abel betrayed Cayne and basically sold his soul.

He still goes by Cayne, despite the fact that he has a perfectly serviceable real name. I mean...who wants to go by 'Tom', or worse, 'Teddy'.

Cult Classic
Well, I decided that if I could get the name 'Cult Classic', I'd make a zombie. Said zombie is actually named Jasper Maximilian Daniels, and was called 'Jack Daniels' for years when he was young. He goes by the monicker 'Max', because I like that name.

Dawn of Deceit
I made this lady years ago, and never could get a hold of the name 'Dawn'. I figured something descriptive would work. Once an angel of the dawn, now a Fallen, the lady never truly lies...but always finds little loopholes that are invariably in her favor.

Irreparable
This character was something, years ago, that was extremely boring. Imagine my delight when some jerk decided to murder him, and gave me the opportunity to turn him into a poltergeist. He's vicious, angry, wild, and entirely...well. Irreparable.

Izotz
I...think this is something, in some language, that means ice or cold. I figured it was perfect for a snowy owl ice mage.

Lissom
Something denoting the idea of being slender or lithe works really well for an Avariel.

Operator Olive
Because green is awesome.

Ramon
My Spaniard has always been 'Ramon' in my head. It helps that friends jokingly call him 'Rrrrrrah-moan.' I've no idea where I initially got the idea, but the name fits him perfectly.

Serafino
Ah, my Italian, cross dressing, cannibalistic, vigilante. Just as with Dawn being a fallen seraphim, Serafina, once a sweet and unassuming young woman, fell into madness years ago. She has a few moments when the almost angelic name suits her, but it's becoming more and more rare.
She also has a brother named Arcangelo, who protects her from time to time, but he, too, has fallen. His overprotective instincts eventually twisted and festered into something terrible. One day, Sera will discover that her brother is a serial killer. That day won't end happily for either of them.
Sang: The french word for blood, which I found impossibly suiting to the character because of her hair color and nationality. Caterine, her given name, was something I picked at random.

Toccata: Part of the title of one of my favorite pieces of music. I got my hands on the name quite a while ago but for the longest time it just sat on the unused alt-shelf. I wanted a design that suited it and the original one was going to be a reanimated opera singer, but in the end I settled on my swan girl. Anya was another name that I chose at random, though for the first week or so that I played her I just called her Toc.
Astarte: Greek word for 'Star', I have always been in love with the cosmos and space, and Astarte as a name was absolutely beautiful. So I plucked it up and turned her into a mutant for X-Men Rage and Serenity. Its almost fitting, she is a mutant with dark powers and twinkling silver eyes like the stars...

Biogene: Ive had Biogene for years, ever since my sister decided she wanted a sibling for her genetic experimental wolf, Biologist. So, I created Biogene. Gene has developed so much and I adore him, Ive just lost muse for him and its sad.

Ezio: I fell into an Assassins Creed fad for a short while and simply had to own Ezio, the sexy italian assassin. I bought this alt but didnt turn him into his AC namesake, instead he became the son of my former werewolf and her mate.

Ominous: ah, Ominous, I made her on a whim actually. I wanted something dark and spooky and got lucky to snag Ominous. She's developed over 2 years of Rp and character design edits, into the darling chaos creature she is now. One of my favorite mains.
Covae was just a random name, a friend named their dog Covea and I just decided to switch the two last letters. It was on a short list of names actually, and I couldn't decide which sounded the most "French Sphynx" like and this one sounded best. It's pronounced "ko-vay".

The rest are not as important, sorry brainchildren!
Grimm (played by Taciturn)

boop.
Campy: Whilst I was far too aware that I couldn't nab the name William for him, I decided that since he was of a less than reputable occupation he was going to come with one of those weird nicknames, like how the big, muscular guy gets called 'Tiny'. Originally I had him as Psychonaut a few years ago until I remade him. The definition of the word is 'ridiculous, senseless'.

Maximillian: Pure and simple, taken from the flamboyant Maximillian Pegasus from the Yu-Gi-Oh! series. A part of Max's personality was also based off him, too.

Those are really the only alts I'm particularly active on!
Baukis really just chose the name for herself, that's all I can say. I had her design set in place well before her name, and I knew that I wanted something a little offbeat and quirky for a female's name, while still being a believable moniker for in game. I was searching around through Greek mythology for some inspiration when I came on the story of Baucis and Philemon. I thought it was fitting that she would be named after someone who so readily welcomed the gods into their home, as Baukis' body is vassal for the muses, thereby welcoming the gods' will in her metaphorical 'home' as it were.

That's really the only character I get to play on these days...that and I'm too tired to explain out the other ones.
Roawan: One of my favorite names that is androgynous in gender. It was absolutely perfect for the character idea I had for him, and it is one of the names I plan on giving my son.

Hormuun: It honestly was a terrible typo during one of my happily drunken furcadia escapades with a few friends of mine, and lo and behold, it became an old and grumpy Viking character. He's one of my favorites to play next to Roawan and Baheeri.

Baheeri: It is the name of my first cat, which was a maine coon. As I got the alt, I began to speak with a friend of mine about ideas for my dream, and in the end, we decided to make him a desert-race slave. Based on the actual dancing boys of Afghanistan, he serves both as a body guard and a trick-turner when his mistress feels like it.

Tidel Marcot: I have no idea. I just threw two names together and they sounded good. He's another one of my favorite characters to play.
Chaffen- (Chaff - en, not Chafen). It has no real meaning, In truth when I made him I was a lot younger and just thought the name sounded cool, and it stuck. he's been around too long to change it now even if I wanted to, there's a lot of people who know me by this name.

Curiously however, I (somewhat recently) discovered the word Chaff, which usually refers to the husk of a grain, but it can also mean anything unneeded or unwanted, usually cast aside or thrown away. When I discovered this, I thought how peculiar and perfect, for the character, if you know his lore. On a certain level, Chaffen (the character) is full of self loathing and can't stand the very idea of who he is or how he came to be, and quite often thinks of himself as something that was unneeded, unwanted, and should have never come to be. So, in that sense, I suppose "Chaffen" could mean, the unwanted, which would be true in so many different levels, as he is a professional assassin, no one really ever wants his like around.

That being said, I've grown quite fond of the name, despite that it wasn't originally based on anything spectacular with meaning.
Kiomii

Cersie: My adorable, sweet little fae. To be quite frank I wanted the name Cersei, a Greek goddess of magic, and the queen in Game of Thrones. But some had the name so I botched the spelling. I don't use him much anymore but that's the reason behind his name. No, it doesn't fit well with the woman character, but it's the name I wanted!

Cassiel: Started off as Castorien, and I got into talking about names with a friend of mine, who jumped up with the name Castiel. Yes. Castiel from Supernatural. Well, that name was taken, so she got the name Castiell instead, and I traded it for Zackariah. Angel names, for a vampire and werewolf. Yay cliches!

Kihami: I used to be a writer of novels, and I created my own language. Kind of like Christopher Paolini did with his Eragon series. So, I selected out a few names and decided on Kihami, which means Bright in the language I made.

Arialye: There's a lot of things behind this name. It started off as Arial and Aireale, who both played queens in a book I wrote but never finished. So I fiddled with the name a bit, in order to create a daughter for a friend for a plot we had going. Well, it never went through, but I kept the name and the character concept because she's absolutely beautiful and fun to play with.
Xor'Athalos (played by Kaiser)

It started with a letter. I started with something exotic.

"X"

Synonymous with quite a few things that I like or enjoy making a reference to.
"Find X" ...but y? Lolol ...Ahem.
"Generation X"
"Subject X"
"X-Men" This is an important one.
"Static-X"
"X" As in the pill. (Am I allowed to make that reference here?)
All of these told me I'd picked the right letter to start with. My character was developing through real-world references before he'd been created... because I started with this letter.

"O"

"XO" Xorath's name starts with a hug and a kiss.
Also a reference to "Executive Officer", specifically from Mass Effect, in this case.
Affection and authority within two letters, but chosen after I saw "O" on the keyboard and pushed it just because. Sounds good. What next?

"R"
"Xor" Just a random letter. I was entertained to learn that this is a type of logic gate used in electrical systems, however. In short, you have two inputs. If both inputs are "on" or "off", then the output is "off". If either input is "on" by itself, the output is "on". Too much info? Yeah, you're welcome. <3 But, oddly enough, this could point to moderation. Hitting that middle ground between not enough and too much.

"ATH"
"Xorath"
How else are you going to end a name like this? It sounds savage and refined in the same breath, which is a core mechanic behind Xorath's character. I appended "Moonborn" to his name to include him in a slowly forming family of characters. Eventually, this family of characters becomes the basis of my roleplaying experience, and as such, everything you see on Xorath's site. Everything.

Xorath means a lot to me after putting so much work into just his name. I'm glad to have found out there are tons of people with the same creative interests at an early age, and that I worked out most of my noob-ness years ago.

No idea why I randomly responded to this. I blame Dylan.

Edit: I needed a question mark. D:
