Abby looked at Kevin for a long moment and frowned. "You dont know what a date is? How do you get Mates if you dont first date them?" she asked, looking rather confused. She would tell him what a date was but first she wanted to know why he didnt know in the first place.
Kevin gave a little laugh. "Abby, we're werewolves, not people. How do wolves get mates?" He smirked a little bit. "They get mates by...well...mating with them. We don't go on dates. If there's someone in the pack we're attracted to, we just claim them. It's gotta be mutual and stuff of course, but we never go on those 'date' things. Naturally though, the alpha knows what they are, since he had a human girlfriend before and stuff."
Abby blushed with embarassment and looked down at the carpet. "Well im sorry but im not a wolf so i wouldnt know that. But a date is where you take a girl out somewhere. Like to eat or watch a movie where its just you two. You get to know each other better and talk on dates. With humans its how we get to know each other and figure out if we really want to be together. Or if your already with someone then a date is just something speacial you two do together," she explained as best as she could.
Kevin listened to her. "Oh, okay. Well it's good you had a date, then!" He smiled at her. "What was it like? Did you enjoy it?" Then, he thought for a moment before asking another question. "What was the alpha like?" He only saw a few sides of Roland, and the relationship side was not one of them.
Abby smiled for real this time as she thought of the date, a happy light coming to her eyes. "I loved it. Roland was so sweet and acted like a gentleman. Though this waiter there kept trying to get my attention and flirt with me but i had no intrest in him what-so-ever. But when the waiter winked at me, Roland got all possessive and put him in his place by giving me a kiss," she said, a happy smile on her lips as she spoke about the date.
Kevin listened intently and smiled. When she spoke of the possessiveness, he grinned. "That's the werewolf in him. Once a werewolf gets a mate, that mate is theirs. No sharing, no drops, nothing." He seemed rather excited. "That's great! I'm glad you had such a good time, Abby. It's good for our alpha to have a good time, too." As if on cue, the door to the house opened and closed. "Oh, that's probably him. I'll let you go talk. Bye, Abby!" He smiled at her, then climbed out the window and left.
Abby smiled and waved bye to Kevin, wondering why he left from the window but shrugged it off. Going to her bedroom door, she put her hand on the doorknob but didnt open it. She was afraid to hear that he lost his job. It would hurt her to hear that and know she couldnt do anything short of threatening the principle and erasing all the files. Putting her head on the door, she felt the familar sting at the corners of her eyes as she thought about it. Then she turned the doorknob and choked down the crying feeling. Opening her bedroom door, she took in a deep, calming breath before stepping out of her room and going downstairs. The closer she got to the bottom, the more she thought she would break but she kept it together. Her clothes still soaking wet from being outside on the roof, she didnt even think about changing.
Roland was standing near the door, talking in hushed tones to Maria. When he spotted Abby, he stared. "...Abby! You're soaking wet, what happened? Go change before you catch a cold!" He shooed her back up the stairs. "Go on, get into something warm and dry. Then once you're all warmed up, come back down here, I have to talk to you." He went into the livingroom and sat down, followed by Maria.
Abby was taken off guard as he said that, just noticing she was still in her wet clothes. Quickly going back upstairs, she changed into a dry pair then went back downstairs. Dreading every moment she got closer to the bottom. Then finally stepped off the bottom step and walked into the living room. Not relaly going in, just standing in the doorway almost afraid to go in.
Roland looked up at her as she came in, and he smiled. "There. That's a lot better. C'mere." He gestured her over, taking a blanket from off the back of the couch and wrapping it around her as she came close. "Sit down, I've got some news." He put his arm around her. "I've got good news, and I've got bad news. The good news is, you and I can keep seeing each other." He smiled softly at her, but Maria wasn't smiling at all. "And the bad news is...well, it's a good thing you saw my tattoo already, because I won't be able to give you your test." Maria stood up and left the room, and Roland sighed. His sister was really upset, and he could tell that.
"So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Any questions?"
"So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Any questions?"
Abby listened quietly and smiled for a second when he smiled at her but she did look down. There was a sorrowful look in her eyes as she tried to hide it but it wouldnt work for her. "Im sorry...Really i am.." she whispered to Roland and had to choke down the feeling of crying again. She was overjoyed she could keep seeing Roland but it hurt her that he lost his job. She however leaned into him and put her head on his shoulder, biting her lower lip to keep it from trembling.
Roland pulled her close, resting his head on hers. "Shhh...it's okay. I don't mind, Abby. I don't mind. If I get to be with you, that's good enough for me. It doesn't matter if I have to quit my job, because for you, I'd do it." He kissed her head and simply held her. "It's okay. Don't let it worry you. It's okay." He was sad about it himself, but he wasn't about to tell her that. Besides, he was being honest. He had the choice between his job and Abby. He made his decision.
Abby couldnt help a few silent tears that escaped and she shook her head slowly. "Its not okay...i know you really liked that job.." She said quietly. Carefully putting her arms around him, avoiding his crushed arm. Sniffling softly, she couldnt help but to start crying softly. Curling up into his side, she gripped his shirt. "I hate that theres nothing i can do... I feel so useless.." She murmured.
Roland sighed and held her close. "It's not so bad, Abby. It's just a job." He rubbed her back and kissed her head. "Abby, there's nothing you should do. Just go to school, do well, and graduate. Look at it this way; you don't have to hide your affections for me." He smiled softly, pulling back so he could wipe the tears from her cheeks. "It's okay. I promise."
Abby sniffled and smiled a little before loosing it. She felt horrible because he lost his job. Then she wiped her eyes before sniffling and looking at the couch for a second. Glancing back up at Roland, she gave him a kiss on the cheek then put her head against his. "I love you Roland. It hurts me knowing that you cant do something you love doing. But i will always be here for you..always.." She whispered to him.
Roland smiled gently at her and rubbed her cheek. "You know what, Abby?" he whispered softly. "I love you more than I love being a history teacher." It was the first time they'd actually used the 'l' word. "I love you, Abs. More than anything. Don't ever doubt that." He kissed her gently, a long, slow kiss.
Abby smiled happily, happier than she had ever been as she kissed Roland back long, slow, and lovingly. Putting her arms gently and loosely around his neck, smiling as the kiss ended. Putting her forehead lightly against his, she moved her hand to his cheek and gently brushed her thumb along his cheek. "Im glad you feel the same way.. Im happy im your mate.." She whispered, admitting the truth finally.
Roland smiled softly. "There we go. There's that smile I know you have." He held her close with his one good arm, nuzzling his head against hers. "Now, why don't you go wash up and get some sleep? You have school tomorrow, after all. It's okay. I have alpha duties to take care of."
Abby hesitated and stayed there for a couple minutes longer before giving him another long, slow, loving kiss before she pulled away slowly. "Good night Roland," she whispered aainst his lips before pulling away the rest of the way. Walking away and towards her room, hating to leave him behind on a night like this. When he had just lost his job but she knew he wouldnt allow her to stay up. So she paused at the doorway to the living room, looking back at him. "Roland? Do you mind sleeping with me tonight? I hate leaving you like this," she said, looking at him slightly worried and wanting to comfort him.
Roland kissed her back, then looked at her as she asked that question. "...I guess that wouldn't be so bad." He smiled and got up, walking over to her. "Why don't we sleep in my bed, though? It's bigger, and I've got the problem of my arm, you know?" He kissed her cheek. "Go get into your pajamas and stuff and come to my room. I'll set the alarm so you'll wake up for school." (Going to bed Night!)
