Abby smiled as she heard his voice then hopped up. She was glad it was friday. Grabbing her backpack, she picked up her car keys and ran out of the house. Right past Roland and to her car before he got to his. "See you there!" She said playfully then hopped in her car and started it up, driving down the driveway and to school seconds before Roland. Parking in the back as usual, then quickly making her way inside the school. Many students looked at her and talked amongst themselves. Laughing and snickering about things only they knew about. But she did catch a bit of someones conversation. "I told you that she was a loser. Abby would never be able to get someone like Mr. Lyall," said one of the girls with a snicker. Abby simply rolled her eyes and smirked. If only they knew.
Roland chuckled and just drove to school, and once they got there, he went to his classroom and got things ready to teach. When she arrived at his class, he simply smiled and said hello to her like he did all the other students. It was test day. He handed out the papers, then sat behind his desk and worked on something, glancing up occasionally to make sure no cheating was going on.
Abby worked hard on the test and actually finished it first in ten minutes when it should usually take thirty or forty. Handing it in, she sat back down and pulled out her sketchbook. The front cover design was the picture she had sketched on her arm, just bigger. Looking through her book, she smiled softly as she re-read it for the twentieth time.
Roland looked at her in surprise as she finished so early. But he had no problem with that. When the test was over, he taught class, and then they were free to leave. He collected all the papers and smiled. He never expected to be so happy about grading tests. He carried the papers in his good arm and got into his car and went home. It was a good day to him.
Abby smiled and took notes before class ended. Abby had a photographic memory so she was always remembering things which is why she was so confident she would ace his test. And she did. Happy, she turned up the stereo loud and tapped her fingers on the steering wheel not paying a bit of attention.
A good forty minutes after dinner time, Abby still wasnt home but the phone in the house went off. It was the hospital. Saying there had been an accident and Abby had been hit. She was in the ER now.

Roland had never driven so fast in his lift. He screeched into one of the hospital parkinglots and ran in, going right up to the receptionist. "Girl named Abby, here because of a car accident. How is she doing? Where is she? Can I see her?" His heart had never felt so uneasy. He couldn't lose Abby too. He couldn't lose someone again.
The receptionist looked baffled by all the questions but she didnt protest against the man seeing that look in his eyes. Typing away on her keyboard, she looked up at him. "She is in the operation room right now. It says that she had a piece of metal jammed deep in her stomach area. I cant let you back there right now but she should be out in twenty minutes. Im not supposed to let you back there to see her afterwards but i will," she said with a small smile trying to give him some reassurance.
Roland felt like he was going to throw up. A piece of metal in her stomach? He just gave a slight nod, then went to sit down. He felt numb. What if he lost her? That couldn't happen. It just couldn't happen. He needed her. She was his mate. She couldn't die. He closed his eyes tightly and leaned his head back. It was his own fault. A werewolf is more durable. It was his own fault for having a human mate.
Twenty minutes later the receptionist motioned for Roland to come over. "She is out of the operation room and is staying in room 133. Take this hall and the second turn you come to take a left. She should be the last room to your right," she explained, pointing to the hall he needed to start at.
Abby would be lying in the bed, hooked up to an IV and asleep. She had lost quite alot of blood but would be in stable condition. She wouldnt die but would have to take it easy for a little while.

Roland thanked the nurse and hurried into the room. He looked at her and nearly broke down. He sat down on a chair and just put his head in his hands. He hated hospitals. Hated them very much. They made him sick because the smell of blood was everywhere. He just sat there and stayed completely still, not moving unless she showed signs of being awake.
After a good hour, Abby blinked her eyes open and almost closed them again cause they felt heavy but seeing Roland made her stop. She couldnt remember what happened but there was a sharp pain in her stomach causing her to inhale sharply. Putting her hand on her stomach, she looked around and her breathing picked up a little trying to remember what happened. She had several scratches on her arm, face and a couple of her neck. There were a couple of bruises dotting her legs and torso, one on her lower jaw too.
Roland looked up. "Abby. Shh, it's okay. Just try to relax. You were in a car accident." He looked at her intently for a few long moments, then he sighed. "You're going to be okay. You just need to rest for a while. I don't know how long they'll want to keep you here, but it's the best place you can be right now." He didn't yell at her or anything. No, he was too scared. Scared of losing her.
Abby looked at Roland and for a second there was panic in her eyes. But they relaxed and softened as she saw Roland. Putting her hand out towards him, she smiled a little then grew serious. "What happened? All i remember was my light being green..then..im waking up here," she said quietly, her voice a little scratchy.
Roland sighed. "I guess someone on the other side was still trying to get through the light. You got in a car accident, and I got a phonecall that you were here. It scared me half to death." He reached out and took her hand, holding it in both of his. "But you're going to be okay. You just need rest. Okay?"
Abby looked at Roland silently then slowly reached over to him. Wincing slighty but ignoreing it as she put her other hand on his cheek. "I promised you that i would always be here. Im still promising that now. You wont loose me," she said seriously and quietly then quickly retracted her hand. Laying back with a wince. It had started to hurt so she had to pull away. Pressing the nurse button, one came in several seconds later. "Yes? Whats wrong?" She asked. "I would really like some water and something for the pain," she said to her. The nurse nodded and quickly went to go get some.
Abby looked at Roland once the nurse left and offered a gentle smile. "I didnt want you leaving," she explained.

Roland smiled gently at her, then just watched as the nurse came in and then went to fetch what she wanted. "I won't leave." he promised her. "I won't leave until I absolutely, positively have to." He held her hand and smiled softly. "You'll be fine. Before you know it, you'll be feeling better and up to your usual troublesome self."
Abby smiled slightly and looked at him quietly. "Im sorry..i wasnt paying attention to the other drivers. I was excited to get home..and to you," she said with a soft, loving smile. Then the nurse came back in and handed her two pain pills and a cup of water. Helping her to sit up without straining the stitches. Taking them, she sighed and put her head back on the pillow as the nurse left. "Roland? When you leave for school, can you stop by the mechanic shop and get my backpack? I have something special in there for you," she said with a smile as she looked over at him
Roland smiled softly at her and nodded. "It's okay. I'll get the backpack, everything will be fine. It's okay." He smiled softly and kissed her cheek. "Something special, hm? Of course I'll have to get it. So how do you feel? Any better?"
Abby smiled a little and shifted carefully, looking at Roland. "I feel like i got hit by a train if that helps," she said with an amused smile really trying to joke around with him. But her smile faltered a bit as she looked up at the ceiling. "You dont have to stay here. I mean you wont get enough rest for school tommorow if you do. The couches here are pretty uncomfortable," she said, looking over at him again.
Roland rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I know I don't have to stay. But I want to. I'm fine, Abby, really. I want to--" Suddenly, his cellphone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and flipped it open. "Hello?" He listened for a moment, then sighed. "Alright...I'll be there soon. Bye." He closed the phone and stood up. "Looks like I'm going anyways. Problems with the 'family'." He gave her a little look, communicating what it really was. Issues with the pack. Issues that the alpha had to take care of. After all, not only was he Abby's mate and a teacher, but he was the leader of an entire pack of werewolves.
"I'll be back later. Just get rest meanwhile." He kissed her head and smiled. "Sleep tight, Abby." Then he left.
