Hey, I've been drawing for years, and love doing it. Yet now i'm getting into wanting to sell my art and do commissions, but I don't know how much to charge. What do you all recommend?

Hi,

As a fellow hobbyist, I would love to give advice regarding the pricing of commissions.

I recommend that you make your prices considerably low when you start out.
That way, people are more open to your options, rather than them baffling at expensive choices from an artist who just started straight off the bat.

Once you've established yourself (and gradually improved your art style), feel free to slowly, but surely, increase pricing to get more bang from your buck. Remember, the more reasonable your pricing and standpoint is, the more customers you would have, thus more income.

If I may ask, what do you excel in, in terms of art? Digital? Traditional? Humanoids? Abstract? Etc.

I do well in both traditional and Digital, with eyes and animals being my strongpoints. I'm fairly goos with faces, but it takes forever for me to get the proportions right in a full body humanoid drawing.

I'd say start out minimum wage plus a bit. So where I live minimum wage is like $7.25 or something like that, so I charge somewhere around $8 an hour for work. I know some artists add more because of the education, tools, etc. costs, but I'd say just start out minimum wage at first. :>

Also take quality into consideration. When I first offered commissions, it was more of a 'hope' type thing because I new my art skill was awful, so I charged less than dirt for my commissions lol, so take skill into account as well, I'd say.
