I've bounced around some similarly blah RP sites. I think my experiences were mostly bad because there wasn't central organization and people could not help themselves from voicing negative opinions (especially while anonymous!) just to get a rise out of others. By the time I left (and well before, actually) the most recent place I'd played at was pretty damned toxic.
I'm still learning not to be quite so... how do I say it? Offensive? Defensive? Whatever that thick skin is that you put on to ensure that people don't see you as being bait, I guess. It's tougher than I'd expected: you find little nuggets of cattiness that you never realized you'd had!
So far RPR has been a very good site for getting back to the basics of RP and friendly chatter. There's even a central Help article on how to deal with drama, and it's a lot more friendly and patience-oriented than any other RP site I've been on. That's cool! I do find that you have to create and exert boundaries here, but that's a good habit in any part of life. State what you want, ask folks to meet you (sometimes half-way, re: patience) and build up your people and RP threads from there.
Good luck! Hopefully chilling around the forum will give you a good idea of who's who and what's going on. There are about a million un-attached groups that you have to go searching for that aren't linked to this main community hub, too, btw, so if you're not seeing what you want in the RP ads over here, do a little more digging. There's likely to be some group or another that will catch your fancy.
