Hi all! >_<
Just thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. I'm Tamarah, nice to meet you all.
I'm new to RPing and have recently gotten into it due to my boyfriend. He loves RPing, so I thought I'd give it a go and have found that I thoroughly enjoy it. I'm an aspiring writer so it is doing wonders for my character development skills.
What do you guys love about RPing? How long have you been doing it for?

Hi Fidem!!
Good to see your boyfriend persuaded you. Roleplaying is heaps of fun, even if it's a touch different from writing novels on your own.
I have been roleplaying pretty much since the day I started learning English. Stumbled upon Neopets about 11-12 years ago with no real knowledge of English, but I loved the site so much I made an effort to learn. Within about a year, maybe two, I was roleplaying awful, terrible, nightmareishly bad Lupes and Kougras in the most cliche plots!
I shudder to think back to that. But without it, I wouldn't be as good in English as I am now and probably not have met my fiance. Some Neopets players prompted me to try out Furcadia, and because of Furcadia I met Kim, and after that I found RPR. Been here ever since.
What I love most about roleplaying is the character development and the ability to unfold a story as things go along. Working towards a goal in a plot and suddenly yanking everything away from beneath the character's feet is sadistically fun!
What do you enjoy about it, besides the character development aspects? What sort of genres do you usually write your stories in?

Aww, wow. That's so cute. Congrats on the engagement btw.
Essentially, I enjoy the same things you do, the building the plot as you go along. I also enjoy the teamwork aspect of it. It's difficult to roleplay with just one person, so to get collaborative ideas all coming together, it is thrilling and exciting because each person has a different imagination to the next.
I generally write in the fantasy or realism genres.

Technically speaking, Neopets isn't a roleplay site but does offer the opportunity to. In the past couple of years their kiddo standards have tightened exceptionally though. You can't even roleplay one person kissing another anymore, or your account is forever frozen. Damn Nickelodeon and their kiddo-userbase...
Anyway, thank you!
What do you find difficult about roleplaying with just one person though?
And do you have any existing stories written in these genres yet?

Ahh, I see. That makes sense. I think that they are getting overly picky in regards to what can and can't be said. Being that harsh on such things portrays them to be naughty. A simple kiss between two five year olds is not at all disgraceful, but cute and harmless. I don't see why they should crack down so harshly on such a thing. I can see a reason for boundaries of course, but not something so harsh.
When I say one person (heh), I meant with just yourself. I roleplay 1 on 1 with my boyfriend all the time.
I am currently writing a novel in the realistic genre.
I roleplay because it's a form of escapism for me. I feel better about being in a fantastical world (even if it is just mundane) rather than the real world.
I've been roleplaying for about twelve years now. I started up in chatrooms as the most cliched Wind Demon named Kaze that I could have possibly got into. I moved from there to forums (X-Men: Evolution FTW), then to IM, to forums again to Furcadia (as introduced by Husband [then Boyfriend]) and stumbled across this place when I decided to yet again quit furcadia. Now I'm balancing here and Furcadia very badly. It's mostly here, but there are days where I don't say a word to people on here and instead invest my time in Furc.
TL;DR - Escapism; 12 years

Welcome!I'm new around here too it's a wonderful place, most everyone I've met has been amazing.
I'm a bit like TheLily. Part of it is escapism for me, the other part is creativity. I'm all about it lol.
I've been playing since I was 12. I'm 26 now... Oh man, that makes me feel so old. I started out with friends that actually did live writing sessions, it was a girl I grew up with from my neighborhood who's older brother was a huge D&D fan and did the table top thing. We just liked the story telling lol. As we got older, we got more into the online thing... AOL... How I do not miss you, let me count the ways... I've been doing it ever since, as often as I could. I can't think of a better way to stretch your brain.

Welcome to RPR!
I have been Role Playing since roughly 2006, and was introduced to it by TheLily. We used a notebook and some pencils. I have been Role playing with her, and a very small group of other people occasionally since then.
TheLily also introduced me to this site! I hope you find all your looking for, and more. Let me know if you ever want to RP.

Oh! And I play table top. I have since I was 17, but I had a two year gap in there between 18/19 when my Husband moved to where we live now.
Mostly D&D, but I ST for World of Darkness and I'm working (slowly) on my own tabletop game.

Welcome to RPR Fidem! I've been roleplaying since around 2003, because I love to write, and creating characters has always been fun for me. Hope you have fun on the site, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks everyone for sharing.
RPR is certainly a different environment, one I am thoroughly enjoying. I'll sure to PM anyone if I need assistance.

Well hello. Was wondering when you would show your face to the RPR world, babe. For those that eventually read this, I would be the afore mentioned BF.

I love being able to create new settings, worlds and characters. I've been doing it on and off since I was about 13-14 years old. I'm 23 now.

Wow. I've only just started and I'm 17.
Welcome! Glad you like RPR! It is probably one of my favorite places to be for roleplay, just a fabulous community and a lot of fascinating characters. I'm sure you'll find tons of fun here!
