I generally avoid this, but I'm looking for some tips on how to keep a SciFi RP alive and interesting. I love the genre, specifically a far future, space traveling type of story. Despite my love for SciFi, I've never really attempted an RP in said genre. Are there any clichés or tropes I should ignore when RPing in said genre?

As I stated above, my favorite part within the SciFi genre is the whole giant spaceship, intergalactic exploration, exoplanet exploration and any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.
Allow the universe to be big, but keep your immediate setting small enough to feel manageable.

As for cliches, I feel RP and actual media are two different beasts. Do what makes you and the other player happy.

What sort of planet exploration were you thinking?
My advice is not to get stressed trying to write hard sci-fi. It's science fiction, after all. As long as your explanations make sense within the context and rules you set out for your world, everything is fine!

On the other hand, it can be fun to research extraterrestrial phenomena to try and understand how other planets might be structured (example: what multiple suns/moons would actually do to a world, how different colours of light would affect the atmosphere and the development of life, etc.)
