Have you ever had a roleplay that pulled at your heartstrings, and makes you go aaawh or Oh God no, or even makes you giggle when you think back on it?

A good roleplay, just like a good book, movie or tv series, makes you feel strongly one way or another, whether its sadness or happiness, or melancholy. It means you've invested emotionally in the characters.

I have a current roleplay running that really moves me. I play a character who's just a figment of a delusional girl's imagination. The lack of parental figures made her conjure one of her own. And, while I personally cannot relate, I'm still a sensitive and emotional person, so I feel with her. It's a strangely adorable and sad scenario at the same time. And the way we don't seem to care about what's real of what's happening, and what isn't, is an interesting aspect of the roleplay that I hope won't ever change.
Love 'em, sometimes go a little out of my way to generate one.

For instance, one of my favourite long-time threads has been out of a game that was essentially a murder-revive tech prison just to put character through extremely rough ordeals and have them come out the other side hard and salty, and then have other characters show up to break down those walls and make them feel again... That's a bit of an extreme example, but I love those fluffy sweet moments with some kind of twist on the flavour that doesn't always have to be hurt/comfort. Too much fluff and the character starts to lose their bite, too much tang and I start to get a little worried about cheese levels, since I'm not all that versed in writing trauma with that careful, sensitive approach that makes it feel realistic.

I find feelsy RP's are sometimes harder to get rolling than you'd think, like if you start off wanting a feelsy RP but you're writing with a new person, it can be pretty easy to veer off the intended track and into something that feels trite or flat. Somehow there has to be some set-up, some on-screen shared experience. Or... if not actually played out, then at least discussed enough beforehand that you can get into your character's and the other character's head space enough that you can feel for them both.

And I think that might be it, for me, is being able to relate to both of the characters. If it's only mine that I'm relating to, it doesn't really count as feelsy to me.
oh jeez. i love these things. i've had multiple; logan's a very sad, sad boy, and whoever he actually spends time with pretty much ends up being a therapist or an emotional punching bag for him. even when the story isn't taking on a gothic and melancholy tone, something or other always comes up. he can't help but project himself, hah.

this one story i had going on was a premise where the other person's character was reborn from a time in greece, and logan and ferran both loved her back then, and logan inadvertently killed her. there was sooo much angst and emotional repression. ferran ended up sobbing on the girl's doorstep, n she ended up crying w the both of them, multiple times.

there was also one with logan trying to gain someone's trust (when i wrote him as somewhat mentally healthy) and they both ended up crying in each other's arms bc they had just a whole heck of a lot of problems.

i've had tons n tons of the Two Unhealthy Boys thing going on, too. this one story i had was of graham and another toxic person running around like idaho, just raising heck and crying and eventually just coming to a stalemate with their problems and not being able to overcome them. it was so good, and a reeeeaal good study for the both of us w/ our characters. i love me some angst and tears in an rp sm.
