[Prompt #8]
If somebody yelling "Hey! That's a demon!" and a bunch of other people agreeing counts as a trial, then yes. He didn't wait to plead guilty. He ran as soon as they busted out the torches.

Missed it again, but these are too fun. I like that this is in the RP discussion section... I feel like it might get missed in the 'games' area.
[Prompt #5] What does your character use as currency. Is it different in their world? Do they barter, exchange coins?
Amongst asandae, Laedo's species, favours are the big game in town. Since his species can live about three times as long as a human (sometimes more) they don't forget, either. Giving acclaim to someone and promoting them are also taken in exchange for goods and services. The more people who are anybody who know you and know who you might be good to connect to, the better things are for you. With non-magical species (humans), asandae will trade off portions of magic imbued into coins. Since humans can't actually see magic, asandae become something like literal mints... but they're so stingy that they somehow manage to keep the market from collapsing under inflation.
[Prompt #6] What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
Proudest: Waaaay back when he was a dragonet, he used to perform in his goddess' holy choir, and the fida'venae (or priestess) gave him an accolade directly for a solo piece at a particularly important religious event. Basically it would be like giving a child a $300 shopping spree and a chance to go up a school grade.
Saddest: Pretty much everything thereafter, lol. His whole life has been one misfortune after another, to the point that he's become a social pariah for attempting to save a human's life in a direct countermand from the goddess herself.
[Prompt #7] What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Warden to said human. Laedo hates it, because he has to obey the law and he can't remove the human from the prison for magical reasons, but he also can't leave because he's fairly sure he's the only non-human who actually gives a damn whether they live or die.
[Prompt #8] Has your character ever been on trial?
Yes! First, during his stint in his species' equivalent of the army, he was given a condemnation from his captain for behaviour unbefitting of his station. Most recently, he was formally ostracized by his people for protecting and abetting a fugitive of the religious powers that be, required to sit and watch his human charge wither and die in isolation. >: I They're all kind of jerks, man.
Round 2 Duder
Laedo is a dragon who takes human form to interact with other bipeds. His species is governed by a goddess who wants to ~do good~ and ~help uplift humanity~, but that mostly filters down into a patriarchal (matriarchal?) society of middle-men and bureaucrats who tell humans what to do--and Laedo's not all that much different. He's hit a point where he struggles with his morals and ethics, but he still comes across as a tight-tailed, pearl-clutching, condescending jerk at times.

Ohhhh I love this. Allow me to jump in! Sorry for text block!
Raine Asawa
[Prompt #1] Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?
Aye, she does. Raine has a tendency to rub the back of her neck when she's feeling awkward or anxious. She doesn't realize that she does it half of the time.
[Prompt #2] How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner?
[ Canon] She's never had a real relationship. She's married but it was arranged and she doesn't like him and lets not go down that route. She doesn't handle any kind of relationship well. She comes off as stand-offish and rude and has issues trusting people. If she were to be with someone they would need to be loyal and kind and able to put up with her BS
[Prompt # 3] What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?
Not much. She has a nasty temper and she can be set off into a flying rage if you say the wrong thing to her on a bad day. She has some triggers, most pertaining to her being a woman and because of that meaning she is less than a man. Others have to do with people that have hurt her in the past. Very difficult to calm her down once she goes off.
[Prompt #4] What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of.
Hmm, this takes place in medieval times so it's basically the same just a bit more fantasy. If you ask Raine, she would say something along the lines of women forcing other women into waist cinching contraptions forcing ones waist to be smaller than they should be.
[Prompt #5] What does your character use as currency. Is it different in their world? Do they barter, exchange coins?
They use gold, silver and copper coins. Go south to Zathar and you have that plus trading items/animals
[Prompt #6] What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
Proudest:Tied between taming Zamir and winning her first war.
Saddest: Losing her child.
[Prompt #7] What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Currently she is a mercenary, making money where she can from bounties and protecting people. She's not crazy about it, but she'd much rather be doing that than being a tavern wench.
[Prompt #8] Has your character ever been on trial?
Technically. But not a regular type of trial. She's currently wanted for high treason :x

(Man, I don't know if this thread is really for chatting, but I do love your characters. She's fun!)
Oooh, this is fun! Sure! Let's go with my main bby!
Primrose Vena
1) Does Your Character Have a Type of Tic, Or Bad Habit?
Prim tends to stroke the back of her hair with her hands behind her back whenever she's anxious or unsure. Also, if she were to get some sort of scab or wound, she will pick at it, much to the disgust of her friends. They will have to keep a constant eye on her if they see her with a new scab.
2) How does your character handle a relationship? What do they want in a partner?
Oh boy here we go. Prim can be... Very awkward at times. In any kind of relationship, friend, lover, enemy even. Though, sometimes she may come across as flirty/interested in romance with friends or strangers, even though that is not the case at all. Maybe because she's overly nice and caring to others?
In her canon, she eventually gets with one of the other main cast members. Now, the two of them have known each other since they were practically babies. Prim needs to build on a lot of foundation to be able to consider someone else romantically. It never sparks off right off the bat, she needs at least a year or so before she starts gaining any sort of romantic/sexual feeling for anyone. Until then, everyone is a potential friend. And only a friend.
A close, unbreakable bond is what she wants with a partner. Someone she can have fun with! Someone who knows her inside and out. Which is why she ends up with my other lesbian in her canon!
3) What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?
The problem with Prim is that she has a tendency to bottle a lot of things up, including her anger and rage. She hates exploding, and maybe has a little bit of an anger problem. Though throughout the years she's taught herself to keep it quiet, and when she reaches boiling point (perhaps a few months of roasting), my god, does she explode. Don't get in the way of angry Prim, she'll most likely degrade you a lot, spew venom about her loathing and other such vile acts. Of course, she never actually means it on the person (unless they are the reason they've angered her), and after her little explosion, will be forever sorry on that person.
4) What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of.
Ooo oo! I love questions like these! Prim comes from the world of Eliora, which is linked to another world called Abaddon via magical essence.
Eliorans tend to greet each other with a bow and a kiss on the forehead normally. Royal Eliorans will never begin discussion over an important matter unless they are gathered around the dinner table. And only when the plates are placed, then they will discuss. This has... Lead to their food going cold many times. But that's how they do it.
Elioran Friends, for example Primrose and her squad, often do food eating contests as a way of bonding a stronger friendship, as well as seeing their friend's limits.
5) What does your character use as currency. Is it different in their world? Do they barter, exchange coins?
Never actually thought of this before. Just used the boring old "Gold" currency. Let's invent something now.
Their currency is Folis! Which is basically, a slightly stronger kind of leaf. This currency literally grows on trees, and the bark of said is used for coins. Comes in shades of White-Gold, Bronze/Cream, and a Warm Silver colour. The bark are darker colours of these respectively.
6) What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
Proudest: In canon, she successfully becomes a Guardian. Overworld protector, saviour to the people. Beacon of Light.
Saddest: Losing her leg caused her to lose a lot of her self confidence. Went through a pretty harsh phase of depression back then.
7) What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Depends what part of her in her story we're talking about here. Eh, let's go with Guardian.
She loves her job. She enjoys experiencing the cultures, meeting the lovely people of the world, and that warm feeling of whenever she puts a smile on someone's face after her service never gets old. She does it to make people happy, so she is happy.
8 ) Has your character ever been on trial?
... Good question. Probably not. ouo;

... Good question. Probably not. ouo;
Okay I can't resist. I have to jump into this so bare with me while I get caught up. Gotta start from prompt 1
This is a long un, all the first wave prompts together in one big ol' post.
Prepare yourselves for a wall of text!
I decided to do 4 characters because each are from a different alien race i've either been developing for a while or just started to develop and want to explore further.
'Esk' - A Hexenfolke bounty hunter and ex soldier from the Imperium. (they look human)
Jarral Dekar- A Kevali scribe and outcast. (they look rather like demonic elves)
Armin Den-Skadare - A Vavare/Spiderkin tailor. (they're spider-taurs)
Professor Hewitt - A retired Aketi Astrophysicist. (They're bipedal, semi insectoid, sorta humanoid plant people)
[Prompt #1] Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?
Esk – He picks his nails with a knife, he puts his feet up on any surface (tables, desks etc) and he eats a lot of junk food. He also threatens to shoot people a lot.
Jarral – He never smiles, or laughs and he hates being touched. He'll stare at you if you try to shake his hand. It makes people seriously uncomfortable.
Armin – Armin struggles to tell the gender of those not of his race, so he has a tendency to call everyone “my friend” and use gender neutral terms wherever possible, or avoid them completely. He also doesn't have a great filter when it comes to what is and isn't appropriate to talk about due to cultural differences.
Hewitt – Hewitt loves to argue, LOVES to argue. He enjoys winding people up.
[Prompt #2] How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner?
Esk – Esk doesn't really UNDERSTAND relationships. He's spent his life unable to touch another living thing so the idea of an actual physical relationship with someone is an alien concept. Not that he doesn't desire companionship, he just won't admit to it because he can't stand moping and he sure as heck can't deal with people feeling sorry for him.
He seeks intelligence, sense and pragmatism in a partner. He likes people who are smart, controlled and logical. He can't stand overly emotional people, they irritate him and he also can't stand anyone who tries to “bring him out of his shell”. He views that as an attack and it gets his guard up immediately.
If you're going to try to get close to Esk, you need to understand that you aren't about to scale those emotional walls and shouldn't even try, he'll talk to you when he wants on his terms and only on his terms.
Jarral – Jarral doesn't understand romance, he never has. He understands the concept of pairing off and mating and all that, he just doesn't really care and has never felt any desire for it. He finds people confusing and difficult, the idea of being intimate with them is extremely alien to him. He seems able to form emotional connections with people, just not physical ones, or necessarily appropriate ones. He prefers his own company though, people frustrate him and he tolerates only a very few. Why? He couldn't say what makes those few people different, they're just... interesting.
Armin – In Vavare culture the females decide who they desire, so Armin has spent his life responding to requests rather than making them.
Vavare are a very social, very tactile species and Armin is no exception. As a result their view of romatic relationships is somewhat skewed. They have tactile and physical relationships with just about anyone they like the company of, and proper relationships as other races would understand them are conducted usually out of pragmatism on the female's part (ie: he will make a good provider, he will produce strong offspring) rather than romantic desire.
Vavare are polygomous and pansexual, always.
Armin seeks friendship, kindness and a strength of character in those he spends time with. But he will never make the first move, to do so would be uncouth and inappropriate.
One day, perhaps a female will select him to be her mate, but it is not something he considers a primary goal in his own life. He would like children of course, he would like to settle down with a family, but there are many years left to do all that and he is certain that his goddess, The Weaver has other plans right now.
Hewitt – Aketi are a plant race, meaning they don't reproduce the same way as animal species. For them, the act of reproduction is a very purposeful act, and one that is, at best, mildly inconvenient. Many Aketi will never produce offspring, electing instead to reproduce via division at death (where they cut the body apart and new growth is encouraged, resulting in clones who retain only a fragment if anything of their previous life). Hewitt has produced offspring, but as is often the case with Aketi, it was done purely for selfish reasons, a desire to preserve his genetic material and a degree of idle curiosity about the whole thing.
Aketi simply don't form the sort of bonds that animal species do. They band together out of convenience more than a desire for companionship. While they do enjoy socialising, they associate it more with particular activities rather than individuals. If a chess partner dies, they grieve the loss of a weekly chess match more than the loss of the person.
They are a profoundly self centered species driven by ego and a desire to be considered “better”, “smarter” “wiser” than anyone else. They are incapable of romantic feelings and as a result, incapable of romantic relationships. The best you can hope for in any relationship with an Aketi is that they will find you mildly entertaining, and thus tolerate your presence.
[Prompt # 3] What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?
Esk – Very little. Calling him a coward, trying to get him to talk about himself, flirting with him (he views it as mocking him), making a comment about his parentage or race.. there's not much that won't set him off honestly. He gets in fights a lot.
He threatens to shoot people a lot too but doesn't actually do it, go figure.
He mostly just punches people or storms off in a huff.
Jarral – Jarral is quite emotionally stunted, he doesn't really GET angry so much as he just can't be bothered any more. However, he IS fiercely protective of those few people he actually cares about. Threaten them and he will kill you, horribly and without any remorse. His is a cold anger, he doesn't shout, he doesn't lash out, instead he will pull the air from your lungs and calmly watch you die. Jarral doesn't forgive people, he cuts ties with those who he determines to have harmed him, but he usually doesn't go out of his way to track them down and get revenge. He may hold grudges, but he's not really interested in wasting his time with vengeance.
Armin – Armin is a pacifist, he's seen too much violence in his life and he like many Vavare believe peace and communication are more useful than weapons and violence.
He internalizes things, rationalizes them the only way he knows how, by turning to his faith. He copes by convincing himself that it's ALL in the Weaver's plan and that she knows what she's doing.
Hewitt – Hewitt has a fairly long fuse, but he doesn't like losing control of an argument or a conversation. It irritates him no end. He thinks nothing of turning to personal insults and attacks to make his point, in fact a great many of his debates can be pretty nastily personal, but he isn't one prone to physical violence. If he feels like he isn't being listened to or has lost the debate he'll storm off in a huff, but he's unable to leave without a final barb, just to make sure he gets the last word in.
Prompt #4] What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of. (Examples: Humans wear make-up, eat dinner communally, hug, etc. All things that might be seen as bizarre through an other-worlder's eyes.)
Esk – Imperium citizens regard their freedom above all else, even life. To them it is better dead than enslaved, they'll die before they submit to a “master”.
Imperium citizens are militantly atheist, to the point they believe religion and gods is some sort of mental illness. They are however very very superstitious, which is weird for atheists.
The age of majority is 14, which squicks humans out.
They don't have sexism, women are just as capable as men, at times a bit more terrifying actually. They also don't bother to segregate the sexes in dorms nor do they have any particular taboos about public displays of affection between a male and female so long as it doesn't interfere with their work. Their attitude toward intimacy is pretty open, it's a fact of life, a thing that happens, why be embarrassed by it?
However, they find same sex relationships abhorrent and unnatural and can't understand why any culture would allow such deviant behavior.
Everyone knows how to fire a gun and use a sword. Everyone.
The divide between rich and poor is IMMENSE. Some colonies still have horses and carts and dirt tracks while others have space ships and huge sky rise cities. The tech level is all over the place. Poor communities haven't got motor vehicles or running water or tvs, but they do have solar panels and generators and electronic locks.
they're intensely xenophobic.
They don't have dogs, or cows. In fact they don't even know what a cow IS. All their milk comes from goats and dogs were wiped out a long time ago due to fear of disease.
They don't go out at night and towns are all walled in, with huge barred gates to keep what's in the darkness out.
They have a rich culture of tattooing, in fact, to be unmarked is a huge dishonor and marks you as a coward or a traitor. Everyone goes to military school at 14 and everyone gets their markings, those who don't must have dodged conscription and that makes them less than scum.
Full moons are bad, you stay indoors, you bar every door and every window and you wait till the sun comes up again.
They have 13 moons, so this happens a lot.
Jarral – The Kevali are a subterranean, carnivorous and deeply religious people. They don't so much believe in gods so much as they KNOW they exist. They have trouble understanding why you should need more proof than what they have, asking them to explain what makes their gods gods just confuses them. Their gods are gods because they are gods and they know they are gods.
They don't really comprehend the idea of eating for pleasure or fussiness. Theirs is a world where food is scarce, you eat what you are given when you are given it. Otherwise you die.
They have no real understanding of privacy either, they live in cramped conditions meaning coupling, nudity, all these things are just normal parts of life and the Kevali don't quite understand why anyone would be uncomfortable around such facts of existence.
They don't do marriage or divorce, mated partners are bound to one another for life through something called a “soul bond”. As a result, they can't really understand things like cheating or polygamy or casual pairings.
They are raised communally and have little concept of personal property.
Everyone considered an adult is tattooed on the face, the tattoos denote their "station", or job. This role is one you have for LIFE, it is your purpose, your calling.
The most difficult difference for outside cultures to come to terms with though is the Kevali's tendency toward ritual cannibalism. As part of their funerary rites they include the ritualistic drinking of the deceased's blood by immediate family members, a custom they believe imbues the drinker with a fragment of their lost loved one, making them a part of you forever.
They also have a very strict culture of being useful, everyone has a purpose, a job, a role to play. The idea that you might be unhappy with that, that you may not want to do your job is alien to them and stranger still (to other races), they have absolutely no problem with euthanasia. Those who no longer can serve their purpose, those unable to fulfill their role and no longer fit to serve any other role voluntarily give themselves up to be culled. They have their throats cut in a ceremony of farewell, and yes, then their relatives drink their still warm blood.
The Kevali consider this completely normal and pragmatic. Theirs is an environment with limited resources and a great deal of peril, they simply cannot afford to support the weak and infirm. As a result, they don't really understand why other cultures may be horrified by this apparent brutality.
Kevali simply do not fear death as many other species do, it's so common for them, they just get on with it.
Armin – Vavare live in communal settings without much in the way of division between groups. At least in the cities, they all sleep together in large hammocks so there's not much in the way of privacy. Not that vavare desire such things, as they are such a physically tactile species their way of showing affection could be considered to many other cultures as “a bit much”.
Because dimorphism between males and females is very obvious, with females being at least twice the size of the males, Vavare struggle to tell what sex other races even ARE and fearful of getting it wrong, will tend not to say anything at all rather than cause offense.
They're a terminally polite species of traders, raised from childhood to listen and learn about other cultures, accept their differences and embrace them.
Their species is matriarchal, with giant females in charge and males really there just to make themselves useful and provide offspring.
They don't understand monogamy, why anyone would want to limit themselves to only one partner.
They don't understand stigma surrounding casual unions or same sex partnerships either, as for them, this is just another way of showing your affection toward a person.
As their method of reproduction is very specific, they have two different sorts of intimacy. Reproductive intimacy is something you would only engage in with your mated female, but what they refer to as “copulation” is absolutely fine to do with anyone. They don't really get jealous or possessive and even though females generally only have 3 males, that doesn't mean those males are the only people any of them will be physically intimate with.
All it means is those three are the males she has selected to engage in reproduction with, which in vavare culture is quite a different act.
As a result, the idea of unwanted or unplanned pregnancies are completely alien to them.
Off world Vavare tend to communicate with very exaggerated body language. This is due to the limitation of the masks they must wear in order to breathe off their oxygen rich homeworld. Because their faces are mostly obscured, they have learned instead to communicate what would be said with the mouth and eyes with grand sweeping gestures and bows of the head.
It's very hard to tell if someone is smiling when you can't see their face after all and the masks do rather disguise the tone of their voices as well.
The don't like to talk about it, but Vavare infants eat one another.
It's something Vavare are acutely aware isn't acceptable in most other cultures but preventing the natural instinct to do so just isn't practical. Vavare females produce a litter of a dozen or so spiderlings who then compete aggressively to survive. Only the strongest do so, devouring their weaker siblings and thus removing them from the competition. It's a completely instinctive act, something the infants have no recollection of doing when they grow older nor that any degree of chastisement can prevent.
The Vavare reason that this natural selection is necessary, because it keeps their population levels to manageable levels. If they continued to have litters of 12 but all of them survived to adulthood, resources would become scarce and survival much more difficult.
As it stands, of a litter of 8-12, generally only 2-4 survive their first year.
After their first molt, the desire to fight and consume one another seems to diminish.
It is an aspect of Vavare nature the Vavare themselves are not so much ashamed of, simply, wary to discuss with outsiders lest they get the wrong idea.
Vavare don't use familial surnames, their second names are descriptions of their occupation and not always the same as other members of their family. While most individuals within a family will go into the same business as their parents, not all do, and as a result, it's not uncommon to see families where most of the children have completely different second names to their parents.
Hewitt – Aketi are just flat out weird. They have no familial bonds, no romantic attachments and their personal relationships are based solely on selfish, rather shallow things.
They are obsessed with knowledge and education, science and understanding. They actively shun magic considering it lazy and those who wield it to be playing with powers they don't understand and don't seem to want to understand. It frustrates the Aketi no end to see such powers squandered on idiots who would sooner believe magical pixies in the sky granted them this ability than really figure out how and why it is.
They scorn religion and faith as being ridiculous and “primitive”.
They scorn just about anyone who isn't Aketi, considering the other races to be “savages” and describe even the most advanced as “still banging rocks together and hoping something will happen.”
they're dismissive and rude and extraordinarily racist.
They're extremely technologically accomplished and they know this, it's a source of great pride for them. Aketi LOVE to feel superior.
They don't understand why you might fear your creation, hubris as a negative thing is an alien concept to Aketi. Their Ais don't have failsafes because they're coded in such a way as they would never even THINK to hurt you (would you fear your toaster? It's a toaster, it can't hate you!) and they have the unfortunate tendency to think of every other sentient race as beneath them. This means their ethnics can be a bit... non existent. Aketi value the pursuit of knowledge, at ANY cost.
They don't have genders. they tend to use masculine pronouns purely because it's easier than coming up with a new set of words in the common tongue. Like many plants, they're simultaneously male and female. They have absolutely nothing to hide under their clothing, they just wear clothes because they like fashion and it gives them a chance to express themselves. Some of it has a practical purpose like keeping the worst of the sun off (yes, plants can get suburned) but what started as a necessity to protect the Aketi from the elements is now just an excuse to show off. Aketi LOVE to show off.
The don't like to talk about it, but Vavare infants eat one another.

they're dismissive and rude and extraordinarily racist.

Aketi LOVE to show off.
[Prompt #5] What does your character use as currency. Is it different in their world? Do they barter, exchange coins? Open your mind! This can include things like babysitting for a casserole. Any service in exchange for something else counts!
Esk – Galactic credits and anything he can exchange into galactic credits. The Imperium uses their own currency, Imperium credits which are an electronic currency. They don't have any sort of exchange rate with any outside currencies though making converting them into anything else rather tricky for those who chose to leave Imperium space. The Imperium don't trust outsiders, and that includes their money.
Jarral – Kevali are a communal culture, meaning they don't really have a concept of barter and no currency within their own culture. At a push, they will use the various decorative hooks and hoops in their ears as exchange, though more often than not, their culture operates more on a “you lend me this and later on i'll lend you that.” They DO trade with their sister race the Kalvair, but they don't really understand it. Kalvair want shiny rocks, something with zero value to the Kevali and seem willing to offer a great deal of useful things in exchange. The Kevali Lord has the miners mine these out, the scribes then trade these stones with the Kalvair for things the Kevali actually need, like food and water. Most of the population though think the Kalvair are weird for wanting shiny rocks, what do they even DO with them? they're just shiny rocks! They also don't fully comprehend why they have to give the Kalvair anything at all in return, but there you go.
Off their home worlds Kevali often have no concept of values of things, so are often taken advantage of. Jarral has never really HAD any money, nor has he ever had any need for it. He has a knack for just surviving.
Armin – Vavare barter in just about anything. Galactic credits, coinage, jewels, favours. They run quite complicated currency exchanges and because they're a trader race, find a use for just about everything somehow. So long as you have some means to pay and they think they can exchange or use it, they'll take it.
Hewitt – Aketi use galactic credits, an electronic currency used by most of the known universe. They do this simply for convenience, quite often the stupid savages have something you WANT or need.
[Prompt #6] What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
Esk – Esk's not exactly one for pride. There's little in his life he can look back on with any degree of joy. At a push he may claim that getting out the Imperium was his proudest moment, if only because it meant he was finally free of his past. But in reality, he's never really been the sort of person to do anything other than for himself. As a result, why have a proudest moment?
Saddest? He has a great many experiences that have shaped and/or traumatized him. The reason he's so emotionally stunted comes down to his own mother's treatment of him, but even so, finding her body is one image he's never been able to burn from his memory.
Likewise the sense of betrayal from his foster sister who abandoned him not once, but twice for reasons that were “his fault”.
He doesn't find these memories “sad” however, he tries not to feel anything at all about his mother's death, preferring to force himself to be numb. His sister he just feels angry, he dared to love her, to actually care for her and she cast him out. In his mind, she taught him one thing above all else, don't open yourself up to other people, they'll just find a way to hurt you.
Jarral – Proudest moment was becoming a Scribe. He was and still remains the youngest apprenticed scribe the Kevali have ever seen. His talent and god given gift of languages made him an excellent translator which is precisely what he became, translating ancient texts and recording them for posterity.
Saddest would be his exile. At only 14 he knew he had done what was right, but he also knew he had broken the law to do it. He accepted his punishment, but it didn't mean he was okay with it. Exile is, to the Kevali, a fate worse than death. To be cast out blindly into the universe alone, with no chance to ever return to your home and your people is a most awful punishment. Jarral's exile directly led to a series of events which would shape him into the person he is today, but few of those events were pleasant or painless. His exile and the years that followed broke him, and he'll never be the same again.
Armin – Armin's proudest moment was constructing the wedding gown for a royal of great prestige.
His saddest moment was being captured by slavers, forced to work in sweatshop conditions alongside the rest of his extended family and witnessing one of his own father's brutal execution for not working “fast enough”.
This memory still haunts him.
Hewitt – Hewitt would claim his greatest achievement are his two degrees and his two centuries of service educating younger Aketi.
His saddest? Well what has he got to be sad about? Even the tragic crash of the cruise liner he was on that resulted in the deaths of thousands was to him only a minor inconvenience.
[Prompt #7] What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Esk – Esk is a bounty hunter, though currently his job title is a bit... uncertain. He acts as security and intel for a small courier ship.
He didn't much enjoy being a bounty hunter, but it paid well and played to his strengths. He's very good at killing things, so he got a job that meant he got to kill a lot of things.
He didn't dislike the job, but he didn't like it either. He was, as with most things in his life, fairly neutral about it all. His current job, if you can call it that, he actually doesn't mind at all. Currently he has access to sufficient food, comfortable beds and a crew who are at least tolerable, if not faintly entertaining to be around. It could be a lot worse.
Jarral – Jarral liked being a scribe, it was his presumed purpose, a job he felt comfortable and fulfilled doing. His current job is far more complicated. As emissary for a god, he's expected to actually interact with people and he really doesn't much like people. Still, his position is one that offers him a degree of autonomy and alone time, which he likes. He would claim that he is “satisfied” with his role, it is, after all, what he was born to do. Apparently.
Armin – Armin loves his job, he became a tailor not because his mother was a master weaver and the whole family were in the textile business but because he genuinely enjoys sewing and creating outfits. He's an artist, designing incredible gowns and costumes is his passion in life. He loves nothing more than designing wedding dresses, because they're an excuse to just go ALL out with detail.
Hewitt – Hewitt is enjoying retirement, his second retirement. Aketi live a long time, they get bored, so they are quite prone to taking breaks, retiring from a profession and taking up a new one or studying a whole new subject. Hewitt was once an astrophysicist, then he was a teacher and he liked being a teacher, it allowed him to show off how much he knew and if there's one thing Hewitt LOVES, it's showing off how smart he is.
[Prompt #8] Has your character ever been on trial?
Esk – Esk was court-Martialed in his late teens for punching a superior officer in the face after the man called Esk a series of racist terms and after months of enduring the regular prejudice of the whole platoon for being Hexenfolke.
He was found guilty of insubordination and assault and sentenced to 18 months in the penal colony on Eisam.
Jarral – Jarral was made an outcast, which involved a sort of trial in front of the Ishvara (lord) and the High Council of Enlightened Elders (who are living embodiment of the Kevali gods). Despite his Lord's protests Jarral was found guilty and sentenced to exile.
Armin – Armin has, to his knowledge, never broken any laws. Least, he's never knowingly broken any laws... so that's good right?
Hewitt – No. Despite being a massive jerk, ALL Aketi are massive jerks and Hewitt's attitude has never been considered serious enough for him to get into trouble.

We'll be doing another round of OC night tonight at 8 pm Central USA Time. (That's about three hours from the time I posted this reply).
You can join us on the Spicy Cats server, or hang out here. We'll be doing the chat and thread respectively. See the first post of the thread for details.
It's time!
To avoid spamming, I'll only be posting prompts after at least one person has answered. The first prompt of the night is,
[Prompt] What's a little fear that your character has?
Examples:
- Being anxious to talk to a cashier.
- Worrying about clothes not being ironed.
- Maybe they're afraid to walk barefoot in grass.

This lot seem to have deeper, bigger fears than small ones... oops? Oh well.
Esk - Infection. Like all Imperium citizens, Esk has grown up with the fear of the "things in the woods", the creatures in the darkness. In his case however, he's witness first hand what these so called "infected" are capable of and what the disease actually does to people. His mother was killed by infected, partially devoured by them before dawn drove them to flee the light.
After he left the military and his sister kicked him out Esk got a job doing the only thing he really had the skill to do, bounty hunting. In the Imperium that means hunting down and exterminating infected. He witnessed great horrors in this job, husbands tearing their wives throats out, mothers devouring her own children and the agonizing, horrific twisting and distorting of these people's bodies and minds till they were no longer people, just blood soaked monsters.
Esk has not led a pleasant life, but while he doesn't fear death, he does fear losing his mind. He fears the descent into madness, the blood lust, the rage that comes with the infection. Of course, in his mind, this fear is totally and completely rational. Nobody wouldn't fear those monsters or becoming one.
As a result of this cultural fear it means Esk is also uneasy around full moons, dark nights and being without a weapon.
He doesn't like being without his body armor, boots and gloves. He feels undressed unless he's fully kitted out and gets weirdly defensive and uncomfortable if he for whatever reason cannot wear them. All of this stems from his ability to drain the life out of things with a touch, but he also can't stand to feel vulnerable. Being out of his armor makes him feel vulnerable, so he'll always wear it.
He doesn't "trust" synthetic milk products, claiming he has no idea what sort of junk is in them and what they might do to you. Hypocritically however, he's fine with eating junk food. Go figure.
He freaks out if males come onto him. He doesn't much like women flirting with him either but guys? that's just too much. He'd argue he's not "scared" he just thinks it's "gross".
Esk also hates horses. He'd argue it's not a fear but really, he's just too ashamed to admit the phobia. He and horses do not get along, and every time he's near one in his experience, bad things happen. As a result he cannot stand the creatures and would rather be anywhere else. He doesn't like to talk about it, but people do notice and find it weird. This just makes Esk grumpier about the whole thing.
Abandonment. Another thing Esk will NEVER admit but he tries to avoid getting close to people because he's convinced they'll abandon him or worse, betray him. His sister left some pretty deep scars it seems, his whole family did really, and he's never quite recovered any sort of self worth. He has extremely low self esteem and is convinced people don't actually like him, they merely tolerate his presence until his awfulness outweighs his usefulness. He works hard to ensure he is ALWAYS useful, ALWAYS irreplaceable, ALWAYS invaluable because he's convinced that the moment he stops being useful, he'll be thrown away. In his experience, that's what people do isn't it?
Jarral - Jarral claims he no longer fears, because he trusts in the shadows to protect him. however, there was a time when the shadows themselves terrified him. Jarral fears the wrath of his god, he fears Fate's plan, but he'll never voice those fears. He also fears the Elders, though logically he understands they are no longer a threat to him, he still can't shake years of fearing those creatures and their strict rules and regulations.
He still can't shake his habit of avoiding physical contact. Though he's well aware that without Fate in his head he won't have visions, years of conditioning are difficult to break, besides which, most of those who wanted to touch him growing up wanted to hit him or otherwise harm him. There's still a part of him deep down that houses a primal fear of being touched and the pain he expects it to bring.
Armin Armin fears saying the wrong thing and inadvertently offending someone. Etiquette is of such utmost importance to his culture, to offend someone would be absolutely mortifying.
Armin also fears overstepping his boundaries, his position when it comes to his feelings toward the beautiful Miss Starr. She is, by his culture, a demi god, a creature of great beauty and power and one to be worshiped, adored and served. His familiarity with her at times feels almost blasphemous and though he's extraordinarily grateful to have such a link with the woman, he can't help but worry his feelings of affection are sacrilegious. he doesn't dare to allow himself to dwell on such thoughts or wishes, it isn't right for a male to have such thoughts, especially not toward Her.
Armin fears subjugation and enslavement of course, having endured this once already in his life.
He also fears conflict and strife. As a pacifist (even by his people's standards) he just has no way to dealing with conflict and finds even verbal altercations extraordinarily stressful. He likes peace and harmony, he cannot stand unrest.
Hewitt Hewitt will of course scoff at the idea of someone such as himself having fears. Fears and superstitions are something for PRIMITIVE races, not Aketi.
Truthfully though, there's a part of him i'm sure that is made uneasy by the idea he might not know everything, that he might not be as smart as he likes to claim he is, that someone out there might actually be BETTER.
He won't admit this of course, but he rather likes hanging around these "primitive" races because they make him feel superior.

KKKKKKKKKKKKK so my copy n paste is messed up but I'm replying to the little fear prompt:
Courtney has two fears I have decided on, one because this prompt got me to think of it (yay!) The first is the fear of the spotlight. While she isn't shy, the idea of everyone focusing on her makes her feel uneasy at best. Whether it be on stage or curious people, she doesn't want people to watch her every move, or ask her questions about her emotions.
The second is her fear of being understood. I don't mean understood as in someone knowing what she means, but hen they can really read her and know her motives, emotions, intentions, pain, etc.

Ohmygod, this is such a great idea!
Can we bring this back? (':
(I know the discord is probably way more active; I might create an account just to check this out)

I'd be up for that!
Rather than doing it live, though, I was thinking I could pop back in once in a while with a new prompt, so there's no rush to 'be there' to participate. In the mean time I invite anyone interested to answer the previous prompts. Here's a master list!
[Prompt #1] Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?
[Prompt #2] How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner?
[Prompt #3] What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?
[Prompt #4] What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of. (Examples: Humans wear make-up, eat dinner communally, hug, etc. All things that might be seen as bizarre through an other-worlder's eyes.)
[Prompt #5] What does your character use as currency? Is it different in their world? Do they barter, exchange coins? Open your mind! This can include things like babysitting for a casserole. Any service in exchange for something else counts!
[Prompt #6] What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
[Prompt #7] What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
[Prompt #8] What's a little fear that your character has?
-
And a new one,
[Prompt #9] Your character has to form a temporary alliance with a stranger, how do they react?

Pamela seems to mostly be looking for a shoulder to cry on, somebody to do her hair, someone who she can talk to, things like that. Maybe also someone that doesn’t wake her up in the morning... She’d speak about plans, which they would hopefully listen to. As long as they’re honest, she’s honest. She’d probably force them to watch Bob Ross with her, and then fall asleep. Even if it’s 12 P.M.

We recently had an OC night on discord, so I'm back with a few new prompts.
[Prompt #10] How does your character feel about kids?
[Prompt #11] How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)
[Prompt #12] How do they feel about lying?
[Prompt #10] How does your character feel about kids?
[Prompt #11] How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)
[Prompt #12] How do they feel about lying?
Ohhh man, these are great!
1) Does your character have a type of tic, or bad habit?
Not necessarily, but since becoming undead he's had this nasty habit of fetching a cup with a beverage of choice, typically tea or spirits, and an empty one. He'll savor a sip to enjoy the flavor before spitting it into the empty cup.
2) How does your character handle a relationship, what do they want in a partner?
I try to play Tak true to the Logistician (ISTJ) personality. Love wasn't something that would come frivolously, it had to be tactical and meaningful, as much to do with practicality as it did emotional connection. Because of this, it's tough to establish that brand of relationship for him and the connection cannot be rushed into, but romance forms it's a steadfast bond. He is infallibly loyal and automatically internalizes what pleases his partner so he can provide for them, while still testing out new experiences to understand them on a deeper level. He enjoys consistency but not monotony.
Attracted to trustworthiness, steadfastness, patience, perception. His wife figured out the formula behind his expressions. While most would see a stoic, irritable, or painstakingly proper person, she took the time to get to know the man beyond the grimace. She's able to understand and accept his reasoning, but addresses his rage with calm, objective alternatives, reinforcing his sensibility and bringing him back to himself when his emotions get heated. It's important for him to have an anchor: he showers her with affection and care while she helps him to be his best self. They support one another as leaders, lovers, and friends, capable of sharing passion and planning alike. He has a strong desire for equilibrium in all things, so the way they balance one another out is essential, addictive even.

3) What would it take to push your character over the edge, temper wise? How bad do they blow when they've reached their limit?
Attacking any member of his family would flip an automatic slaughter switch. Tak has learned to rein in his instinctual territoriality and innate violence over years of meditation and emotional exercise. He's proud of the control he worked hard to establish, but attacking his loved ones is grounds for unleashing hell. He'll go batty, literally.
4) What is an unusual social practice in your character's world? Whatever you can think of.
Tak has traveled to many worlds, so he's seen many strange customs. In regards to his English homeland however, he never really understood the fashion appeal behind the codpiece.
5) What does your character use as currency?
Again, he's been to many places, but the most remarkable example he has experienced was during a stay in Greece. He lived in a humble, isolated supernatural town that treated stories or outlandish artifacts as currency. The more exotic, the more expensive. If the objects came with stories, all the better.
6) What is your character's proudest moment, what was their saddest?
His saddest moments have revolved around loss. Some of his closest confidants were killed years ago, which led to a social isolation for some time after, and both of his parents passed. It was difficult for him to build close relationships, so when he did lose those dear to him it hit hard. His proudest moments have revolved around the opposite: life. His wedding day, the birth of their children, and the successful turning of his progeny were some of the greatest moments of his (un)life.
7) What do they do for a living? Do they enjoy it, or are they just doing it because they have to?
Tak is a number of things. He was a politician for some years, but the psychological and emotional demands weren't worth trying to fix perpetual problems. He is a ship captain, a familial occupation he's proud and passionate about. In Victorian scenes he is an asylum alienist. Tak deeply enjoys aiding the ill into banishing their fears and regaining a sense of independence.
8) What's a little fear that your character has?
Forgetfulness. He has an incredible memory, so any change to that (amnesia spell, the temporary result of a ritual, etc) is distressful. While he's adapted to his immortality and is comfortable with the concept of living for centuries, the idea that his memories might eventually start to fade intimidates him. His sense of self is strongly tied to experience, thus the loss of them is detrimental to his stability.
This actually comes to pass around mid-twentieth century to modern times: by his fifth century of life, he starts to see "shadows" of old friends. He has actively attempted to hold conversations with complete strangers mistaken for companions long since passed.
This actually comes to pass around mid-twentieth century to modern times: by his fifth century of life, he starts to see "shadows" of old friends. He has actively attempted to hold conversations with complete strangers mistaken for companions long since passed.
9) Your character has to form a temporary alliance with a stranger, how do they react?
Formally, but concisely as possible. Expectations and ground rules would be established up front, and he would make a point to ensure he and the stranger both have the same goal in mind before proceeding to plan on how they will attain it. He would be willing to compromise enough to ensure they both get what they want, within reason.
10) How does your character feel about kids?
For the longest, Tak was awkward with children. He knew interacting with them called for a degree of gentleness, but he had a hard time simplifying his manner of speaking and toning down his generally serious, stern presentation. He went through development that made him more relaxed, then he became a lot less afraid ofbreaking kids once one of his closest friends made him a godfather. Since then, he's had children of his own, gaining an ability to put on a much different face for little people than the one he shows the average adult.

11) How do they deal with physical affection?
It's generally dependent on the other person involved, but as a noble, Tak was raised with strict standards of propriety. While those have deteriorated a little over years of being buds with more casual characters, he still isn't too touchy feely, at least not with people he doesn't know very well. He's highly attentive and affectionate towards his wife behind closed doors, but in public, they're reserved and generally anti-PDA because "that's just proper". He'll hug a good friend if he hasn't seen them in awhile, or they need comfort. Hugs are generally one of those things he'll reciprocate but not initiate. By rule of thumb, he is old-school, so he won't go kissing cheeks as a greeting or hugging acquaintances.

12) How do they feel about lying?
He was a politician for years 😏 the guy knows the value of omission, or lying to deceive an enemy, especially if it means keeping people safe. He doesn't see fit to use it with his allies though, preferring people pursuing the same goal to be on the same page. Lying is a last resort: Tak considers deceit to be "tangling", and getting too wrapped in a web of lies will wreck anyone's credibility, no matter the good intention. He has a habit of "weighing" actions to determine whether or not he trusts a person, so if actions and words don't line up, it weighs heavy on how he reacts to them. He wants those he considers himself close to to feel like they can not only trust him to be honest, but feel like they can tell him anything. Because of this, a lie from someone less significant will usually get them ignored or avoided, but a lie/omission from someone he cares about is taken more personally.

13) Your character meets a ghost. What's their reaction?
It wouldn't be the first time. If it was not malicious, he would try to establish communication and discern why the ghost is present. Past encounters have hardwired him to try and help souls to pass on, but if it was a poltergeist that was an active danger to himself or others, he would more than likely try to contact someone who could dispel it.
14) Where was your character born?
Plymouth, England, 1515 AD to Albus and Tamasa Dralt.
[Prompt #10] How does your character feel about kids?
Siira never thought much about kids until she had one....a victim of her biology on an abandoned planet. Of course having that same child torn from her arms had devastating effects on her, and as a result she is a bit weak towards children. Often she sees a child and is reminded of hers, the guilt of losing her and the jealousy of another parent with their child often effects her already rather unstable emotional state. If she becomes close with a child, she may try to be motherly towards them in a subconscious effort to reclaim the feelings she had with her daughter. All in all she does well with children outwardly, but internally they can unknowingly have devastating effects on her.
[Prompt #11] How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)
Siira belongs to a culture which has an energy sharing nature, and as a result have developed laws (yes laws) over who can be touched and, where, and when. Overall Siira would be very touchy and affectionate with her close biological family, to a point most humans would find inappropriate even. For anyone else (not including her own family, mate children etc.) she is very uncomfortable touching them or being touched by them. She may even start a fight after being offended by a casual touch, or mistaken presume someone had romantic intentions when in reality they obviously did not.
[Prompt #12] How do they feel about lying?
An ability called 'mind-sharing' has jaded Siira's race to truthful responses. When someone (the law included) can reach into your mind and find the truth, the society mostly just stops lying....at least Siira's society did. She has a difficult time trying to lie and has very little experience with it. In addition she isn't fond of the idea having been raised in a society that strictly punishes liars with great severity. Bottom line she doesn't like lying, and even if she had to lie to save her life....well she might not survive that honestly
((These are fun, can we do more than one character if we want to?))

You can do as many as you want!
[Prompt #10] How does your character feel about kids?
Trin is in a strange spot with children. She adores them, because "they are the future". She's enamored with the idea of having littles someday. Wanderlust is laced deep through her character though, so the concept of settling down still feels like a distant pipe dream for her. That, and she just might be a little less pansexual than planned. She has never met a male she was attracted to, of her breed or otherwise, and while it isn't an impossibility, she's at an age where it's starting to feel like it will never happen. Her culture encourages same-sex couples to adopt a child when the other parent involved has passed on, so there's one option for her, but she can't help but regard loving families- mainly kiddos- bittersweetly.
(Tldr; she loves them but they make her sad.)
[Prompt #11] How do they deal with physical affection? (I.e. hugging)
The Tuntarian people are highly empathetic and supportive. They believe that if one person in their tribe is suffering, they're all suffering, so they'll go out of their way to comfort anyone who needs it. Over her travels, Trin has learned that there are people who will take this "affection" the wrong way, or even take advantage of it. She's more reserved than she used to be because of this, but she still tends to stand close to people, hold hands and shoulders often, hug liberally. She doesn't fall in love (or attraction) easily at all, but she is by nature a loving creature.
[Prompt #12] How do they feel about lying?
Trin abhors lying. She rarely accepts any excuse for it at all, even if there's a sensible cause, but she tends not to take it personally. Instead she wonders over the person's well-being, usually assuming they told an untruth because they were afraid of honesty or acting in the interest of some need. She is proud and sure of herself, so it's exceedingly rare for her to ever lie in any way.
