When I first joined, it took me a godawful embarrassingly long time to find out how to make a second character. I'm wondering if there could be a less intrusive Mentor Minotaur pop-up from the main page side-bar (because the image is indicative of 'hey newbie!' once you've used him several times to get started) that tells you where to edit your character list and make new characters?

Also, I used the MM's 'help me build my first character sheet' option to begin with, so I'm not sure if he pops up when you choose 'build your own', but having him lurking and pointing out how the widget app works would be really handy! I know there's a document in the Help section, but some people may miss that when they're very new.

Yeah, that would be nice. I haven't tried to make a second character yet, but you've made me realize I have no idea how to and I haven't stumbled across how to yet...

Click Dashboard directly, not any of the drop down options, then scroll down and there's a button that says "create new character".

Also, I had the minotaur up for longer than he needed to be. The last step "find an RP to join or start one yourself" doesn't go away until you use the Find RP tool, you don't have to join any of them, just run a search. It got annoying and I had to ask here to figure that out.

I think the minotaur needs to be revamped completely, maybe have him in the help section instead?

Just curious, why is the search bar (both the on-site and in the help section) not a viable option? "Create a new character" immediately gives me the desired results with a step-by-step instruction. It's accessible from almost every page on the site, so I'm personally not sure where people get stuck on this.

I've never really used the search bar here! I don't know what options are available or how powerful it will be, but I've found other sites often have limited results, so I haven't bothered trying. (That, and when I was new, I thought it was another RP-search tool, having briefly found a 'find RP' section but not knowing that it was different, yet.)

Yeah, I think people are used to sites that don't have very good or useful search bars, Sanne.

Do you guys think it might be more helpful to put more emphasis on the search tool and what it can do, than to bother with the Minotaur showing up in other places?

Mentor Minotaur was actually recently revamped to make him more prominent, as when he was primarily in the help section, people just wrote to me with the questions he answered instead.

I'm not sure if I'm sold on a more prominent search tool--there are enough that cater to specific kinds of searches that I feel like it's a little much for me to bother with. Either I go to the 'Help' section or I've blundered through. I liked the Mentor for the first steps of getting started. Weening back with him popping up from time to time much like the 'Did You Know?' info would have been my cue for realizing there was something I hadn't found yet.

Not sure how I'd implement that, unless there was an option to turn off helpful tips (I don't know if what I'm suggesting would wind up executing like the Word Paper Clip, but if that's the eventuality let's burn this topic and pretend it never existed, lol!) or the site recognized that you'd done the thing the tip talks about and auto-hid it from future showing (much like after you search for an RP MM doesn't come back)
