Hello! I’m looking to garner interest in a horror fantasy group chat roleplay. I’m drawing inspiration from the book “A Great And Terrible Beauty”, the game “Rule of Rose”, and the movie “Pan’s Labyrinth.” I’ll be playing characters, but also functioning as a sort of Dungeon master at times to help push the story along. Here’s the idea thus far:
Victorian Or Edwardian era(I’m leaning more towards Edwardian) group of 4-5 young women(16-19) at a finishing school together. They stumble across a book(or multiple books) that retain details about witchcraft and other supernatural creatures. They end up getting pulled into a supernatural world that at first seems really bright and cheery but quickly gets dark. They can either fight to leave or become seduced by the power the world offers. I’m gonna be playing one of the girls but I’m working on my bio.
Some world building stuff:
-The supernatural land they enter is known as “the faewilds.” The human world is known as the “waking world”.
-Any creature that is not human, demonic, or angelic is known as fae. We will not be using angels and demons, although they could be mentioned by characters.
-It is very rare and highly unlikely that a pureblood fae creature would live in the mortal world. However, they often visit to cause trouble.
-Fairies see themselves as better than humans. They look down on cross breeds, although sex and relationships between fae and humans are tolerated for the most part.
-There is a fairy court.
-The school was built on top of a “fairy mound”, which serves as a portal between worlds.
Rules:
*Lgbt characters are allowed, but there would be time period accurate bigotry so characters would be mostly in the closet. I'm gonna be relatively choosy with people I don't know.
*Literate people only. You don’t need to type multiple paragraphs every response, but please be descriptive and shy away from one-liners.
*Please try to be somewhat realistic with your character in context with the film. Human or mostly human characters only. Mostly human means their great great great great grandmother could be supernatural, but they should have very little traits that reflect that.
*Please suggest new plot points before doing them. The small slice of life things are okay, but if you want, say, some fairy creature to attack your character in the waking world, you need to run that by me first and give a reason for it.
*No smut in the main chat. Take it to pm.
*Don’t complain if your oc isn’t getting attention. Do something to make them deserve attention.

Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Industrial revolution
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

I would love to play as a human version of this character. I remember watching Pan's labyrinth when I was younger, but sadly i don't know of the other two you mentioned.

You'd have to make her a tad younger too, unless you want her to be like, a maid or a teacher or something. The core 4/5 girls all have to be young women.
I legit rewatched Pan's Labyrinth two nights a go and fell back in love. I'm actually considering straight up ripping the faun for this rp.
That would be amazing, in all honest he was my favorite character in the move. Also I planned on aging her down to begin with .

He's probably everyone's favorite character. I'm a little bit in love with him, honestly.
If I do use him, he's going to serve a similar role as a sort of guardian and guide.
I could see that working out greatly. And honestly hope you do use him.
I do enjoy a good dark fantasy RP and this actually sounds like promising, especially since I used to play the table-top version of "Changeling" years ago, which I absolutely loved. Also, figured I ask the dumb question, but is this strictly female characters?

I've never played changeling, although it seems interesting.
The 4 or 5 humans that end up tapping into magic and entering the faewilds need to be girls. Trans man characters are allowed, but they'd have to be in the closet. Teachers, staff members, and the fae can be any gender or no gender at all.
An interesting idea, indeed! Although I'm going to have to do a bit more research on the Edwardian era (I'm more used to writing the Victorian era) and I will absolutely have to finish adding vital information to my character's bio, I would love to do this! Wyn could work as my character.

I could do late Victorian, honestly. I'm also used to writing within the Victorian era.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I did finish adding stuff to my character's bio, so I'm ready for an RP whenever everyone else is.
Also, it's really up to you with the era, it could be interesting to try something new this time.
