The weather is all sorts of crazy over here, too. I am not enjoying it! 
Thunderstorms much like tornados though rare can happen any time of year. Think on what forms Tornados were you are Warm and Cool air... you can get warm air coming in from the gulf and then mixing with the cool air were you are could in a since cause a thunderstorm.
